Paddle Board EDC and Survival Kit | ON Three

Jason Salyer, joined by Greg, review the safety and survival gear they packed for their paddleboard adventure. Greg highlights his 12GA flare gun as well as the strategy and goal for its use. His kit also includes a signal mirror and whistle. Jason runs through his paddleboard EDC which includes a Garmin GPS, Onyx Manual Inflate Life Preserver, compass, lighter, Leatherman Wave multitool, local chart/map, SOL Bivvy bag, metal water bottle, tourniquet, clear trash bag, frog gig, a small amount of Gorilla tape, signal mirror, and a small sewing kit. I, too, have been underwhelmed by all of the high-dollar "survival" lighters on the market. Finally went with an assortment of lifeboat and strike-anywhere matches in a waterproof, metal match safe. Thanks for making this video. Very well done.

NEVER UNDER ESTIMATE THE BRUTALITY OF THE SUN!. I live in SW FL and have boat camped in the 10,000 Island / Everglades National Park many time. Awesome adventures to be had but keep your wits about you. Always carry 2X the water you think you need.

Plastic wrap a pistol with a round chambered and a box of ammo and quadruple wrap the ammo with enough to seal your pistol 3 times. I learned it from an old Cajun in the bayou 30 years ago and it works! REMEMBER TO REMOVE THE WRAP FROM THE BARREL AND TRIGGER FIRST!

You want a full sized signal mirror in that kit. If you cannot actually see anyone, your next resort is to keep sweeping the horizon with it.

Dang! Can’t believe I forgot about that. There was a stainless mora companion on my hip in a custom sheath when I was on the water. The leatherman I carried has a couple of blades as well. Thanks for watching!

Is there no need for a firearm of some kind? I think I would at least carry a compact 9mm.

Very difficult to carry an accessible firearm and protect it from the salt water. Inside a dry bag would be about the best you could do but very slow to get to. Even a little saltwater would rendered it useless pretty quick. Even stainless steel rusts in saltwater. Thanks for watching! -Jason

I cover mine in plastic wrap with one chambered and one box of ammo that is quadruple wrapped to recover the pistol 3 times. I learned this from an old Cajun in the bayou 30 years ago and it works. And Remember to always unwrap the barrel! Or you will get hurt!

They're out in Florida Bay. Not much threat except sharks, barracuda. Now, inland in the big mangrove areas DON"T get in the water.
