Unfortunately most of SA's history is forgotten or ignored.😭 After the end of apartheid a lot of the history curriculums were altered and in most of the provinces in SA the schools only learn about the atrocities of apartheid and of Nelson Mandela. Of course that part of the history should not be ignored, but today average people don't even know what started the Anglo-boer wars, or the Great Trek, and almost no one knows why we engaged in the Border Wars, some South Africans don't even know that we were at war barely 30 years ago to name a few instances . This quite frankly is a tragedy as history is there so that we can look at the mistakes of past people and governments and learn from them. When half a country's history is ignored or just skimmed over we lose a lot of the substance of how our country and culture was shaped over the years.

As an American, I always wince when I see the topic of a KZbin video is going to be something along the lines of "what people from overseas dislike about the US". Sam and Chantelle were extremely diplomatic and polite about it, to put it very lightly. Also, if you guys think Americans are blunt, what do think of the Germans?

Through movies/TV and music "Americans" are known throughout much of the world (both good and bad). And outside of politics, most people that I've met overseas have a good impression of the U.S. (and California) overall. So it's easy to be friendly and open when you are an American traveling abroad, or when visited in the U.S. by foreign travelers. So far the friendliest people that I've met in a big city was Sydney, Australia. And also I found that people in Scotland and Ireland were welcoming of strangers. I found that British people in big cities like London people wouldn't even make eye contact (in public) let alone strike up a conversation with a stranger. But once in a pub they were transformed, and everyone was a friend. I'm sure that there are many other openly friendly people in the world, but as an American, getting past the differences in language, communication and culture is a challenge in so many countries where English isn't spoken. And when we are traveling abroad I see it as our responsibility to try and learn the language and culture of the places that you visit. Of course that is why I like your channel, and others like it. Because you make it a fun experience to learn how other people and cultures are different, and how we still have so much in common, despite having vastly different experiences growing up in our native country.
@NicholasJH96
@NicholasJH96 2 жыл бұрын
You should visit Wales next time you’re in the U.K.. if you do here another language it’s very likely to be Welsh especially in north Wales. USA does have good things & bad things. I think reason they’re put American politics as bad is partly down to too much power on other countries & when some Americans say, it’s our politics it doesn’t affect you. When it actually affects every other country which some don’t realised. That’s how much power USA has. If USA wanted to make Canada part of USA hypothetical they could do it. USA would have sanction then but most countries wouldn’t interfere unless in NATO.

John, I had to correct my Minister once during his Sermon. He said that people don't have a fear of heights but a fear of falling. I corrected him and told him it is not the fear of falling but a fear of landing. Something about that sudden stop is the real problem. Ha!

Yup, americans are very open. Like a guy just said hello to me in the elevator, and I instantly knew: American. In South Africa you try to avoid talking to people in public, maybe if you're really good friends who haven't seen each other in ages, but strangers on the elevator? You'd think they are either crazy, gonna kill you or both. You generally just don't make eye contact and go about your business.

I know where the context of the joke is coming from (like why John and Chantelle dislikes Sam) LOL. Coming from the two countries who was once upon a time under the British Rule. :D P.S. Chantelle - you are such a darling. I've grown to love you. The moment you said OOOH... I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS when it's John's turn was adorable! Also (just like John), I've always found the British accent sexy, and Sam has proven that to me again. John - thank you for being savage at times (especially to Sam - peace. I'm kidding! ^___^) and adding stuff to the things I know about the US. But yeah, I love your Tom and Jerry kind of relationship with Sam. Haha! Mabuhay from the PH!

Things I love about: England- the amzaing indiginous ethnic groups there and what they achieved from within a small island nation. South Africa: the nature and the landscape is breathtaking America: (opposite of Chantelle's) the politics is so much more interesting, it is focussed and exciting...well these days it's a bit more of SA's blame game on Jan van Riebeeck. They're lacking facts and opting to emotionalize things. Things I hate about: England- That the nation who overcame all odds and became a powerhouse is now losing its ethnic and racial history and people. South Africa: The politics. Long, stretched out hearings in parliament. Nothing ever gets done and it's all a blaming game on the predecessors of 26 to 400 years back. America: The fact that they think whatever is happening there, whatever the backstory, it's the same everywhere else. I.e If they let in more immigrants, they're helping the rest of the world; while actually causing a brain drain in developing nations!

The thing I don't like about the USA politics is the fact that there are only 2 view points is it is left or right. Right or wrong. There is no middle ground for negotiations. In South Africa we have many different party's to vote for. Normally most people vote for the 2 big party's but the fact that we do have other options dose leave the door open for more tolerance on people's stand points.

Dislike how Britain still has royality is so outdated and that is such a waste to pay for care of that family. One thing I hate about the US is that areas of the country only care about there area. Example, south, west, NE, midwest. If it's a hurricane in Florida no one cares if they don't live there, people should care about the people who live in the country whether it's happening to them or not.
