Thanks so much for all your explanations. As a new taranis user who last used radio control 25 years ago you have managed to bring me into this century.

OH MY GOSH THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THESE VIDEOS!!!!! After spending a dozen hours trying to get my X9D+se to work in RF9 I was kinda going a bit nuts. Your videos have helped immensely, and it took me a while to realize I don't have to get everything working perfectly in the Calibrate/Edit menu in RF9. I kept trying to set them as tri-state switches in the Edit menu in the sim, and was getting perturbed that it wasn't working. They just need to be seen as proportional... the Mixer settings in OpenTX handles the rest. I went from not being able to get it to work with anything but the sticks, to using 5 other switches for various things including throttle curves in just the last few hours. Thanks again!!!

Glad the series helped. Loads of videos organised into a 'lesson plan' that you can follow to get all of the basics of OpenTX covered. Spread the word! :D

@@Painless360 I had been searching all of the internet for the last few days trying to figure out OpenTX on that radio. Your material really helped me finally break-through that learning curve. I really appreciate the way you laid out the material and explained things. Had already loaded the 2.3.5 firmware but was pretty much stuck beyond that. Your explanation of not only defining the inputs, but the outputs through the mixer was priceless. Got a few mins into your Companion video and was off and going! The bit on curves was really helpful too. You just saved me countless hours. :) I'll happily tell everyone!

This series is awesome. This video in particular shone a bright light into how powerful the radio and TX companion are together. Thanks!

After watching an incredible number of tutorials videos...I always come back to yours as the reference.Not only you cover the ''How to...'' but also often cover the ''if..and but...'' as well which, to my opinion, makes your series top of the line. Not only beginners get properly oriented but even experienced builders always find something new in every and each videos... Keep doing this fantastic job!

Thanks for taking the time to write that. Too often those who are experienced with something 'forget' what it's like to start out and not know about the context and detail that help the understanding of the topic under discussion. I always try to think about my friends who are new to the hobby when making the video and try to always make it so they can follow it! Happy flying!

Excellent series! Your way of explaining things and different techniques to accomplish them are very thorough and easy to understand. I've had my Taranis for a while now and never knew I could assign different curve values for a channel to a switch! One question though, is it possible to set up multiple curve values for several channels to a single switch position? Example: switch 1 in down position activates a specific curve value for each, throttle, yaw and aileron. If so, maybe in a follow up video! Thanks!
@Painless3609 жыл бұрын
Jason Faulks Yes you can - have a go! You can't break anything and the PC OpenTX Companion is a wonderful sandbox to play about and see how you can make it all work. Best of luck..

What are the checkboxes for beside the curve selectors (colored labels)?

I noticed in another one of your vids you selected arming your quad via the throttle stick moved to the lower left hand corner.....where and how can I do this for my Taranis Plus ? I am currently rebuilding a quad and thought I had everything correct but can not get it to arm using the throttle moved to the lower left.
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
Bottom right for throttle/Yaw is normally arming, see our videos on troubleshooting arming if it's not working..

excellent video thank you, now say I'm only interested to set my curves one way without assigning them to a switches you know for multirotor, just to make things simple, do I just create the curves and link to it from the throttle and leave the switch selection blank? or do I have to assign it to a switch? thanks
@Painless3609 жыл бұрын
Gus F Just don't assign a switch and then the curve you select is there for the duration.. Hope this makes sense..

I was wondering what curves were, almost similar to expo but with more options. So, I can set up a throttle curve that can get to hover range almost as soon as I move the stick say at -85, have a fine hover range up to say + 20 and +20 to +100 is the rest of throttle, is that correct? By adding more points, can I round out the curve more to act similar to an expo curve?

Is it possible to offset a curve so that you get 0 to 100. 0 being throttle off or lowest throttle setting instead of -100 being 0 throttle?
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
That's not the way that OpenTX works. 'zero' in OpenTX is 50% of the channel value.. Not sure what you're asking..
@RC-Heli8357 жыл бұрын
On Spektrum radios 50% was center of the range which meant that zero throttle = zero on the pitch curve. With Taranis zero throttle is -100. I was thinking it would be neat if Open TX offered the freedom to use zero to 100 throttle curves. Its no biggy now though, I've gotten used to calculating 30 x 2 - 100 = -40 if I want 30% flat throttle curve. With Spektrums zero to 100 curve you just set it to 30% with no calculating.
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
If you're entering into the world of OpenTX then this is just one of those things you need to get to grips with. It is confusing at first (I came from the Spektrum radios too) but once you get into setting up the radio for some advanced things having the center of the channel ( i.e. no input for the Ail, Elev and Rudd = zero channel value) becomes very powerful.. Happy flying!
@RC-Heli8357 жыл бұрын
Painless360 I ve been flying Taranis for 16 months now. I do love zero being center for everything else. For throttle setup it would be nice if they made a provision to choose a zero to 100 for throttle.

@Painless3609 жыл бұрын
+Justin Graham Must be a change in the version of the OpenTX firmware you are using. I'm still on 2.0.17 here until I'm confident about 2.1.X.. Best of luck.

So what version of software allows the helicopter wizard?
@Painless3609 жыл бұрын
+foxrace0985 I am using OpenTX 2.0.17 but the wizard is actually a LUA script so you need to enable support for that when you load the firmware..

would you use curves and expo on the taranis or on the naze board itself as i know many people swear by only on the board itself? cheers
@Painless3608 жыл бұрын
+Huw John A lot of pilots would say that you should set the expo on the flight controller as it provides a better resolution. It does, but requires connecting to the FC to change it. I tend to use both as adding some to the radio can be handy when teaching someone and dialling down how responsive the sticks are.. Happy flying!

great vids! Tks!! what is the best practice: to program curves in the MIXES menu or the INPUTS menu?
@Painless3607 жыл бұрын
+Paul Hamilton good question, it depends. Personally I use them on input normally, but occasionally use them on mixes if I want the curve to change curves with flight modes.. Happy flying!
