The pricing issue comes from GW’s mastery of loss leaders. They sell $200-$300 boxes that have incredible value but individually those models sell for 3 times that. And you don’t feel that price when you’re buying things piecemeal.

I started in MKI. It was clunky but fun. It had a lot of coool little combos at army builiding lvl I enjoyed exploring. Every model had a lot of cool flavourful rules. MK II was ideal. It removed some of those flavourful elements, but the gameplay and balance were greatly improved. It was a great, thinking man's game. It wasn't just rng like 40K. It had some indept tactical elemnts I absolutly loved. Than came MKIII... It invented theme forces separating every army into like 3-4 mini armies. You could play without them , but that sacrificed a lot of power and points just so you could play the models you wanted. It also added models to some but not all of those themes, making some of your models witought a playable home (gunmages) while making you buy a whole new force just to continue playing (trenchers). Blanace wasn't better despite bold attempts with CID. MKIV broke the cammels back for me. So I have giagantic Cygnar army and some Minions also and now I have to buy a new army just to play? There are some unlimited formats for older models... but do anyone play them anymore?

Warmachine, man...I loved it for a long time, but after the release of Mk3, Privateer just seemed so determined to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. --Battle Engines, Gargantuans, and Colossals. Awesome models. But the cash grab element became more and more obvious as they went on as every new warlock or warcaster hopped on a battle engine for poorly defined reasons, and then they switched to direct mail order only, which sucked for...well, everyone not in the US. --Power creep. OMG, the power creep. Theme lists that, if you picked the right ones, could give you 25% more points than the other guy. Everything having huge boosted spray attacks. Cavalry and heavy infantry fighting each other to be the most ludicrous things on the table. Having so many games turn into an auto-gg because your opponent bought the hard counter to your army, or because you didn't bring the highly specific thing that countered their busted ability. I remember being so hyped to play the Cephalyx and then...oh wait, you're playing Cygnar with Storm Lances and a Stormwall. Welp. By the time I bailed out, the different between the newest stuff and the stuff that hadn't been updated since the start of Mk3 (because it wasn't making as much money) was extremely stark. --Related to that, community testing of new models. Which SOUNDS like a great idea on paper, but it turned into each faction in turn lobbying for their stuff to be OPAF, often without realising they were doing it ("We need counters to the other guys' busted stuff!") Also, it pretty much killed enthusiasm for every other factions to realise "You don't get anything for a few years.", vs new books having a smattering of stuff for everyone. --For a game that sold itself as the competitive wargame where players could do their best to break the game and still have fun, Warmachine was...remarkably breakable. Anyone else remember the Major Victoria Haley reign of terror, where she was the most busted warcaster in the entire game? And busted in a way that was essentially telling your opponent "You can't play the game.". And then there was the Karchev Mad Dog spam, which got nerfed so hard it was visible from space, leaving a lot of Khador players hundreds of pounds out of pocket. --Ultimately, what drove me out wasn't just the drive towards competitiveness, it was that competitiveness was about making your army as non-interactive as possible.

A lot of painters will be. Oh hopefully we can get newer bottles or something as well, I have lost a few pots due to the caps crumbling.

Models get borrowed, for wtc. There was an incident where an entire army did not make it. The local community pulled together both lists for the player. This is slightly different... I am going to assume they will get team Canada or USA to bring the models if absolutely necessary. People at the wtc want to beat you at yiur beat. Not on a technicality or because of supply chain issues..

It can only be a good thing that the game is run by a company, that is not active trying to run their own game into the ground. Running the game from an app might be easier for the company, but I hate it. I need a book and cards. We also need to move away from game rules changing all the time. It is really annoying when you don’t play a lot, to constantly have to check is stuff has changed Games pandering to tournament players also needs to stop. They will run tournaments regardless, but the updates and focus on game-y rules, ruins it for everyone else. Mk2 was ridiculously fun, mk3 torpedoed their game

The app makes it not just easier for the company, but easier for the players. It's hard to underestimate the greatness of having instant updates, and not having your books invalidated two weeks after purchase

Yeah, I don’t want to lug around a bunch of books and cards. It’s 2024 at least have both options.

Privateer actually had a very good system where you could choose which cards you wanted, and then download them as a PDF. Then you could either use that for your army or print it out to have up-to-date cards.

You can actually do this from the app, at least on PC so far. As someone who needs the physical products, this is a huge help. My laminator has never seen so much use 😂@@paulgibbon5991

Oh, I'd love it if they brought back real books, too. I got started in The 2d6 IKRPG when Humble had an ebook Bundle available for like a couple weeks, but I totally missed the D&D 3e era. A run of reprints would be phenomenal.

After MK3 murdered my Protectorate army I highly doubt anything could ever get me back into the game.

I know your pain... reteibution got done dirty as well... twice... I don't care they got buffed at the start of mk3 that was not ret and it was not a fun experince, they felt more like cryx than ret. Then they got done dirty again... becoming Hot topic cryx for that extra sparkle vampire experince. I hope they don't butcher skorne because my other hordes faction is just a hard pass. Pirate trolls .. no thanks.

I got the app, read the rules, and was very underwhelmed. I don't like the movement, spray, or AOE rules. Couple that with the whole legacy and Prime models thing and I think I'm gonna skip Mk4.
