Hi, your love of life, optimism and fun in experimentation, come across very strongly in these demos. I find your videos inspiring and uplifting and we all need to be lifted up just now. An art lesson and a tonic, all in one. Thank you.

Hi Gordon, thanks, love your comment. Enjoying yourself is important, also in these 'stay safe-times'. When more people look on the bright side of life we all will prosper. Bye, Albert

Morris Louis's work was the first "modern" art I saw in person a few years after he died. Years later I found out that he and Nolan were inspired by Helen Frankenthaler. Very interesting demo.

Thanks Carol, besides the art, it's also interesting to learn about relation between artists. In my videos I tend to focus on the art and painting it. Art history info can be found in many place, the how to paint not. Albert

Hi, I used poured paint to create lines in my art, both oil and acrylic. I use a plastic squeeze bottle with different tip openings. I often time this method to draw and also put interesting textures in my underpainting. Love your videos.

Greetings Albert. Thank you for introducing Morris Louis. Your experimentation and playfulness enlivens the lesson and inspires an energy and will to get off the comfortable seat and start playing with paint while creating art. Would you consider a lesson on Lee Kasner and/or Hedda Sterne? Both are female abstract expressionists. Their body of work is astounding. Thanks again and stay safe.

Hi Salim, thanks, this was a fun episode. Enjoy painting yourself. Hedda Sterne looks interesting, thanks for your suggestion. Looking at her work at the moment. Could be an interesting video. Stay safe, bye, Albert

Hi Albert, love the channel man, I do hope you keep it going. I found I could control the paint flow by firstly painting a line with water and the paint follows the sleeker surface. Cheers for all the insights Albert 🤟

Thanks Paul, that's a good tip, using water as a slide. I sometimes paint the whole sheet in white to get a smoother surface. Unfortunately I can't use water on the paper I paint on, but diluted acrylic medium would also work. Thanks again, Albert

I wondered if you may have controlled the flow of paint a little bit better if you had done it thru a funnel or bottle with a end cap like a funnel, like a catsup bottle or whatever. However, you did pretty well, and I like Morris Louis as well. His drips and bright colors appeal to me and I had thought about trying something similar recently. A new artist I found recently is: Maria Lassnig. Her figures are bizarrely distorted, but fun too.
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Culture Fan, thanks. I thought about bottles, but chose the cups because they're available everywhere for anyone. I also try to work as cheap as possible, I'm Dutch 😁 and I already had them in my studio. Maria Lasnig I know, interesting but not appealing to me. Bye, Albert

@@ImperfectPaintings I must have some Dutch in me too, because I think cheapness is a virtue. :)

Thank you for this great video. I’ve always been a huge Morris Louis fan. Can you please share how you frame your work on paper?
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hj Jennifer, thanks. I use a floater frame (in the description below the video you can find a link). At the moment I have foam board mounted in it where I temporarily place my paintings to photograph them. Hope this helps. Albert

I've been thinking about negative space, (or white space in art) Several artists, including the musician, John Martyn and the sculptor Barbara Hepworth, regarded negative space as being integeral to the whole piece. In music, it is said that, the music is not in the notes, but in the silence between. In Barbara Hepworth''s interpretion of, "Truth to the materials", the space is as much a part of her sculptures as the solid material she carved . In speech, sometimes it is not what is said, but what is NOT said, that may be vital. That's s silghtly different case, I realise, but it still can hold true, as a concept.

Hi Gordon, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree with all of them. Imagine a newspaper with only the words, without the space between them. Or the black ink printed on black paper, hard to read I guess. The one only can exist because of the other. Like shadows only exist because of light. Did you notice on a cloudy day, you hardly see a shadow? Lovely concept to think about. Stay safe, Albert

@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hallo Ellen, bedankt.

,,, Did you notice on a cloudy day, you hardly see a shadow? Ah, yes. I know why scientifically but I find it rather prosaic. Then again, I have a mystical interpretation to it, which I prefer. I don't think I've the time, or your channel the space for it. You'd be blocking me from here if I tried to elaborate. Hehehe. Stay safe Albert, we need you.
@ImperfectPaintings4 жыл бұрын
Hi Gordon, I understand your elaborating. In my idea I agree with you. What did i say that makes you cut it off? I would love to know and understand. Bye, Albert
@gordonjackson26554 жыл бұрын
@@ImperfectPaintings Oh! I'm terribly sorry, I didn't think I'd cut my thoughts off. I had no intention of uspetting you. I wonder if it's in part a semantic problem. My mystical idea of why you don't see shadows, is complex, some would say heritical and flies in the face of physics. I was a Solid State research physicist for many years. I would be shot down in flames for saying some of the ideas I have about mystical and spiritual subjects. Also, there are more trolls in cyberspace than one can shake a stick at. The last thing I want is to start a flame war, especially on someone elses channe, where the entire subject has no place. I've been caught in flame wars in the past,, they are not worth thinking about. I was very much aware that what I was saying has no place in an art channel. In private via email it would be fine. I hope I've redeemed myself, by my explanation. I'm sorry for any upset or confusion, it was the very last thing on my mind. Life is too short already.
