HiI`m a little confuse on the mixing of the clear coat .I`m using acme finish 1.the ratios is 4 to 1parts FC720 to one part FH612 medium hardener. Do I go on the cup were it said 4 to one ratio and fill the cup to four with the FC720 finish 1.And go to 1 with the FH612 Hardener.

Make your own mixing stick based on some type of conical cup that you may use a lot. Using the conical cup take a measuring cup and put 2 cups of water in it then measure the height with a ruler. In a cup I use that is 4" and then is 4 parts. I mark the side of the cup or a stick that is dedicated to that cup. Then one more half cup is one part and make the appropriate mark. One more half cup of water and make another mark. Now you have 3 marks inside a conical cup 4-1-1 or 4 parts paint, one part activator and one part thinner. as long as you use the same cup and stick you always have the 4-1-1. My cup of choice is the J Box large drink size. This cup fills my gravity spray gun just right.

Mix on the 4:1 scale, then flip the cup around to mL. Do the easy 10% math with where you're at. Ex: 400mL. 10% reducer would take you to 440mL.

? I recently painted a truck with omni single stage mixed 4/2/1 it did not dry for three weeks then i wet sanded with 600 and repainted it. it looked good for to days and went orange pealy but it did harden ok same mix i have painted cars for thirty years never had this happen before had other painters tell me its shit paint ? so is it me or the paint

If you need 4:1:1 and you use scale 4:1:10%:1 and you DON’T use the 10% scale, when you add reducer are you adding 10% more reducer? Am I over thinking this?

Question...... Are all ratios read the same???? meaning like 4-1-1.... Pant + Activator + Reducer.... is Activator the same as Hardener? because I hear videos people mentioning hardener and activator...... I ask this because if you get to mix a Paint Code that requires a mixing ratio of 4-2-1 you will need to make sure to know the order in which you mix your products..... with 4-1-1- it really don't have to because 1 and 1 is 1 and the Paint is always the first number..... So please clear for me the order in which you read to pour the liquid and does it change depending on the Brand of paint use................. Best to download the TDS (tech data sheet) for the product you're using. Usually an easy Google search. But the rule of thumb is always: paint:hardener:reducer. Some products will use 4 components. Paint:hardener:activator:reducer.

I prefer the paint mixing pail becouse if you use a measurement cup and check your scale on your plastic mixing bowls that are tapered you will notice that the scale is wrong on the side of them I showed a lot of different painters that the scale on that plastic is totally off.... Get a measuring cup and check the plastic cup scale they are wrong!!!!

You would apply this same method with the revised ratio. Often times that would be 4:1:1 so find that ratio at the top of the cup fill to the appropriate "4" line and follow up with the corresponding 1 and 1 lines.

You decide how much mixed and ready to spray material you want total in the cup, then pick a number in the last column closest to that number. Whatever that number is, is the number you start with in the first column and use for the mix. If he wanted a little more sprayable material in the cup he could go with 3 in his final column. Then he would start with the 3 and use the 3 - 3 - 3 numbers instead of 2 - 2 - 2 he used.

I'm very disappointed in Eastwood paint , I did my 56 Chevy from bare metal up with Eastwood from primer sealer and paint , year and a half the chop top silver metallic went flat and when water hits it it streaks then about 2 yrs the moonlight drive blue did same thing . So I contacted Eastwood and their answer was like we have no clue , so my advice DO NOT USE Eastwood paint. One would think they would have an answer better than we have no clue .
