I love that his MAC is as destroyed by paint as mine.

This is brilliant, thank you. I love how much of your advice I can apply to different mediums, not just oil. I hadn't thought of the mouth being on a curve before, or consciously noticed the color fading out towards the corners. I found myself staring at your mouth while you were talking, lol. Love the "Seven Tips", and then the "Seven Tips" correction too ;0)

I’d like to see a more diverse skin color representation as well as different ethnicities of mouth and lip shape. I think there’s a lot that’s unique to those undertones and deeper colors and ethnic anatomies that deserves to be painted and taught as well.

Hey Chris..this is perfect. Ive just spent an afternoon trying to get a mouth right…its a smile with slightly prominent teeth…but I keep getting it like bugs bunny. I've wiped it off a couple of times and I'm tempted either to lose the teeth or throw the whole thing away…

In your tutorials you often have slightly different color choices depending on the subject versus one set pallette. When you are preparing to paint, how do you decide which paint colors will be on your pallette.

Sometimes, I get the mouth great...sometimes, I just mess it up. Recently I painted a lip and it looked like I was pushing the lower lip out lol. The problem was simply where I put those bright highlighted parts on the lower lip. Also I needed to bright the upper lip because when I moved away from it a certain distance, the shadow and the upper lip made it look like it was a whole lip piece. So that 3D effect of it curving (because there was no way to distinguish the shadow with the lip unless you were really up close) was lost.

I’m not even close to attempting a portrait but this info is still useful to other applications! I really appreciate your style of teaching. I’m eager to try the patreon subscription but worried it might be too advanced for me. Is there an obvious beginners starting point where you teach basics and I can work my way up?
