Yeah I'm coming from oil painting and mixing gouache is a nightmare to me. Everything just mixes together, it seems impossible to get consistent or even seperate mixes

What gouache do you use?

This is beautiful!! I live in an area where I see gorgeous sunrises on the river and my goal is to paint these. I am learning gouache as I am normally one to work with watercolour. But I love the finished effects of gouache (looks like a small oil painting). I noticed you we small brushes, even for larger areas of paint. Why? Is this to limit how much paint you apply?

Thank you, Leanne! Gouache paintings really have the appearance of small oil paintings. I love that effect too. Usually, I use small brushes for small areas and larger brushes for larger areas but when I am working on a small painting this switch sometimes doesn’t make sense because I can paint a relatively large shape with a small brush, and because gouache dries flat and opaque the brushstrokes flatten out when the painting has dried and they become invisible.
