I think everyone starts with fanart, but before the internet, they didn't show it as often. You've made a really great point in another video about how stills from movies - you've already got the composition, lighting, and color already set up. I do think it's a great way to copy and learn. How is that different from a master copy? I love how you convey the gold of the idol. Can't wait to see what the new project is!

I love watching how you bring a painting to life. It's always been a moment of wonder for me watching artists and craftsmen work and seeing how something that looked simple suddenly becomes more then the sum of its parts. It doesn't matter what the subject, size or material is, not even the technique. It's something else. I suppose it's the balance of all the things expected and unexpected done with a creative confidence. It's inspiring, and AI can't do that.

"Alas, you do not speak Hovitous. " Raiders of the Lost Ark is incredible and one of the great American touchstones. We don't contribute much good stuff culturally so when we do we gotta celebrate. Glad to see it is loved just as much in Germany! You really captured that look of dubious fear and tension on Indiana's face in that scene.

Thank you for touching on fan art. It’s how I started as an artist and when I learned how looked down on it is by artists in general it really turned me off to the art community, I eventually turned my back on art school, pursued something else, and relegated it to a hobby. But it truly is my passion, and it still makes sad sometimes to know that what I love to do, would never be celebrated, and instead entirely dismissed. So thank you for acknowledging the work and love that goes into it.

As astounding as Indy looks, I have to pay special tribute to the non-metallic metal painting of the idol - watching the layers build up on old golden bonce was an absolute masterclass in painting shiny yellow things without the shiny paint. Thank you, this is something I shall now study and try to work on 🙂

Fan art? Is that what you call it! I call it portraiture. I love portrait drawings. I love people. Wherefore, start with the perfect faces. The faces everyone are most familiar with. When you draw them, drop down to the imperfect structure of everyday people. The people who have the struggles and the agony of everyday life printed upon the soul of their mortal existence. And that is what we aim for when we sit down to capture them in sketch, or color, paint or sculptures. I love how you did capture the character Harrison Ford worked hard to portray on screen. You my friend, are an artist.😊😊😊😊

"it can take weeks, or even a month." As someone who illustrates and creative directs illustration for movie posters and entertainment advertising, I can say, yes, that timeline is accurate. But, the client will want it in stages, so you will work 3 days at a time 8-12 hours a day. Then wait on feedback and shift gears, repainting and painting new elements. This is the real reason that classic illustrators worked the way they did. Finally, you'll get to the end and the talent will want you to change the face used, so, you'll have to do that all at the 11th hour before the drop dead, pencils down deadline. It's insanely high octane, and my department has been working on ways to maintain the old school traditional processes as we move into an increasingly digital era of art.
