Done I will be notified! I am curious about the title of this video. Is it your thesis that Medusa was an actual woman? I hesitate to point this out as I do not wish to belittle someone’s religious beliefs, I think this is a Greek mythological creature, yes? No? Just what is your title implying? Be cool and stay safe!

I really appreciate that he emphasizes how nervewrecking it can be to start doing colour on a section, that you had only done the contrasts or the sketch for previously. Of course it's fun and so satisfying, but in the moment, you're really not relaxed, lol.

This!! One of the biggest things I’ve realized with creating art is having the massive courage it takes to just do it. It legitimately takes so much to overcome the intense fear that accompanies creating something new. Maybe some lucky people out there don’t experience this, but I think it’s a lot more common than people talk about.

this is why i love this channel. i dont come here for the art, its the thought process that you take us through with so candidly and in such a real way. and its so relatable the way you ranted about your ugly painting stage despite KNOWING that its the "ugly painting stage". i think stressing about your painting is inevitable and you shouldnt resist it. one day youll be the most confident painter and the next youll be overthinking every single brush stroke. let all of your emotions bleed out on to your painting. thats what makes it yours!!! excited for the final part

super normal and natural haha. The person painting is always the hardest critic.... by a lot. But you have to be amped and have really expectations of your work. through planning and slowly following good steps you should be amped at the end! even if it didn't turn out how you liked... at least you gave it great effort and followed a path you originally thought was a path to success. and then the next time you can get even closer and closer and so on and so fourth

I'm not an artist so having this as a series where you're showing your piece in stages and sharing your thoughts/process is incredible. It always shocks me when an artist is frustrated and talks about the ugly stage...to me everything always looks incredible but I guess as the artist you have a certain vision of how you want the piece to look. This is a rollercoaster ride that I'm excited to experience. Thank you for sharing ❤

Love following your process! You are very courageous and inspirational. My questions are: What in your opinion are the pros and cons of using oil vs acrylics? When you mix your own paint colours, how do you make sure you have enough? What do you do with leftover paints? Have you ever run out of a mixed colour and weren’t able to mix the exact colour again? How did you solve this? Do you prefer round or flat brushes? Which line of Silver brushes is your favourite? Which brush sizes do you use the most? To name just a few questions. 😊 Good luck with finishing everything! 🙋🏻♀

I definitely understand the frustration of trying to get a project done & working through the process & the getting through the ugly stages of a painting. I use watercolor & gouache as my choice of medium materials. Thanks so much for sharing your experience, thoughts & the process of this huge oil painting. Which is looking fascinating to me! My question is how is the difficult/challenging oil painting process different from when you were doing the very large painting murals (like in the Alice In Wonderland series)? Could you use some of the same process techniques for this oil painting as you did for the murals?

"hot take here. the funnest part of this project is already finished. as much as painting is fun it's a puzzle. the photo shoot in my opinion is the most fun part it's the creative part, we're manufacturing the reference. now in the painting stage we're sort of being more objective and robotic to execute the function of painting using tools and paint and put it on the canvas, okay so that's how my brain works" Dude just realised he's a cinematographer not a painter. Clearly too, the docu series with Proko and Watts show that. Another great vid slew.

Love that you're showing us the entire process of such a large-scale piece! The "ugly" stage is so difficult to push through, as it exposes all artists' "insecurities" in themselves. Although it's something every artist goes through, it's great seeing how you handle that stage! It's so easy just to give up at that point, or change direction with the piece (even though you're on the right track!) I love the story behind this piece, and what you're trying to convey with it. I can't wait to see it finished! 😁👏🏻💖🏴

SLEW! This project has been so impressive thus far! QUESTION TIME: I love the concept of the past and present being simultaneously brought together and divided by the mirror, but is there a conceptual reason behind the different poses of the hand? It jumps out as a focal point to me. I think my gut reaction is that the two hands should be posed identically (I love the pose in the mirror, with the pointer finger reaching upwards). I'm wondering if you had a narrative reason for making them different, or if it was simply a result of different poses from the photoshoot? No matter what, your efforts are amazing! I can see your final vision and it's really inspiring seeing how each phase is building towards that big payoff :)

This is great. Your honesty is fantastic and I love the SLOW DOWN X 3 signs. There is no right time frame, and I know that using this exact reminder it slows my brain down and allows time for me to have clarity and not a busy questioning head once I pick up my brush. No one understands when I stop midstream except other artists. That’s how I learned my process and as unique as we all are, as an artist it shows how much we love what we do. There is no hurry up and get that painting done, it’s not an everyday task. Part 1 is wonderful, part 2 amazing I’m sure part 3 will be fantasmagorical 😊

Hullo SLEW, Well Sam I believe that the ugly stage is going to be the inverse of most other paintings. If you "feel" your ugly stage is usually lasting a day, it is going to take a week or longer with a picture of this size! I offer this that it is nothing like a mural as those are a different medium and has so much more technique behind it! You are also battling history too! Not only the "story" of your painting but the history of creating paintings in the "storybook" of painting stories throughout ALL OF TIME! So many "schools" of creating pictures and deciding your direction. I am so excited to keep watching and my question is why you decided on canvas and not a panel? I know the church went to canvas for practical reasons of transport and hanging. The religious significance of the cathedral artworks and painting ON the walls. They used canvas for practical reasons, such as of transporting the art from artists studio to churches across the "roads" of that time. To hanging heavy panels on walls that would not support the heavy artworks! So Why the super expensive canvas? Why not a sweet Masonite panel? I am so excited for ALL OF THIS! Keep going and keep believing!

The underpainting is always the process that gives me mixed emotions while in the middle of it. I’m either not liking it because it’s taking too long, or I’m excited because the laying down of the colors gives me a sense of completion, even though it is in the rough stage. (No more blank canvas) So my question to you is, which part of the process of creating a painting is your favorite? Is it the idea stage, the photo shoot stage, the blocking stage, or the detail stage? And why do you like that a portion of the process? Love how it’s looking so far! ❤❤

Does using it directly for your reference instead of a physical print, throw any of the colors "off" since the light is projected through the screen vs being reflected from a paper print. Since in essence 'you' are the printer? Have you had to make major adjustments in - i guess - the richness/saturation to the final color mix? Or am i just over thinking the process....lol
