Two recommendations I would strongly encourage before going further. First, replace that rear main seal on the engine. Second, at the very least, replace the tappet cover gasket on the side of the block. They are notorious for leaking. If the budget allows, look into buying a billet tappet cover which will use a much better seal design. Those are two major leaks you don't want and are easy to fix at this stage.

Those are great recommendations, thanks! 👍

@GMann-px7te Жыл бұрын
@@WaldosWorld - I am doing a 12v Cummins/Eaton Fuller into a '94 suburban project and so I need to ask the same set of questions. What is the model number for the Eaton gearbox you are using. What are the part numbers for the; bellhousing flywheel pressure plate clutch disc TO bearing etc. etc. Did you have to fab up your own clutch linkage? What bits and pieces did you use? I am not able to do the work myself so I finally managed to find a shop that has agreed to do the motor swap. However, when I mentioned grafting on a 10spd Eaton gbox to the 12v, everyone looked at me like I was deranged. I had to send your videos to the mechanic. So, if you could share the part numbers I would be most grateful.
@ToddKing4 ай бұрын
I'm 4 years late but was about to post the same thing. Billet covers are nice but for a low dollar fix you can RTV the stock cover in place. The problem is that the stock gasket pushes out at high rpm when the crankcase pressure gets high. Gluing it on fixes this. I've done it on 2 600+ HP builds and haven't had an issue.

Remember working on the old NTC 855 Cummins when you puleed the fly wheel housing and replaced it you had to set up a dial indicator on the end of the crank and dial it in center before you torgued the bolts if not it would tesr up the transmission and the engine both it was close tolerance only +/- .0002 to .0005 ive sat under a truck up to an hour getting it as close to .0002 as i could posdibly get ....just so i knew it wasnt gonna fly all to hell within 25 to 30 miles if it lasted that long i got so good at it even the older mechanics would ask me to dial it in for them ...but most of the time we done an inframe instead of a block out overhaul

That's a good point you brought up. It prompted me to check the service manual to see if it required checking runout, but luckily, it seems like it's not necessary for this application

The beauty of those ISB engines is that they were used in medium duty trucks and so it’s easy to upgrade as long as you have room in your donor vehicle at firewall and transmission tunnel. You could fit a 10 speed transmission to that engine even

Im just now watching this. 1st screw long bolts into the flywheel to use as handles for the installation of the flywheel. 2nd never reuse flywheel bolts. 3rd why didn't you replace the rear main while you had it apart?
