I recently picked up the Panasonic S1. My initial thoughts are that it's a great 'pro level' photography camera that I'd far prefer to the GH5. The video options are very lacking in comparison to the GH5 but the future upgrade should improve that greatly. I prefer the image from it to the GH5 from what I see so far. The autofocus with native 24-105 lens is substantially better than GH5. I need to use it more before I give it a proper review.

Good video. I think Panasonic really nailed it with both the S1 and S1R. With camera tech being so amazing these days, it really comes down to what your needs are and how comfortable you fill with them. I love m43. I did a fashion shoot recently and really, the next step up would be MF. m43 is just that good for me. During the video, you spoke about having 2 - 3 cameras. Well, with the price of the S1 & kit lens, you could've bought two GH5's. In an earlier video, you said that the GH5 is more than good enough for the work you do and it's size/weight being so great for handheld. So I wonder, why go to the S1?

Thanks, I get what youre saying. I would have liked a gh5s but a lot of what I do is photography. The gh5s would also require that I get a second speedbooster. As I have a few full frame lenses I prefer just to naturally match the glass to the sensor instead of reducing it with Metabones.

well it's not the S1 filming, you do realise that? It's the R5 and I had it set on single point focus. Yeah, my mistake as the stuff I'm holding is black and i have a dark shirt on.

@@Filmmaker809 the Gh5s is great but you couldnt use it as a work photography camera and the s1 you can. When the update for the s1 comes out it'll be interesting to see how it compares to the gh5s for filmic stuff.
