Options for "finishing" the Ynnari plotline without finding all the swords and/or without killing Slaanesh: 1) Don't detail where the last sword/swords are, and end the trilogy on "the adventure continues." Slightly unsatisfying and smacking of "we don't know how to end this plotline without killing Slaanesh"? Yes, but still better than what we got. 2) Find the last sword and wake up Ynnead to do battle with Slaanesh. Turns out waking up one god doesn't just automatically kill another. Maybe this prophecy of Ynnead killing Sleensh was written thinking the Eldar would have Eldar Empire level populations of worshippers to give Ynnead power. 3) Balthasar Gelt transforms the final sword into lead, along with Slaanesh's entire supply of gold. Slaanesh is unable to pay its daemons, so the Eldar finally get a break due to daemonic economic recession. I AM SUPREME #GELTMAXXING

There's a 3rd Avatar of Khaine win in the book Warboss. My hopes were so, so low when he showed up (especially because it's an Ork book). Then he beat the ever-loving shit out of 2 of the main characters, made the Waaagh! run away (they were led by a Blood Axe, so not much surprise there), and lived to tell the tale. Even when all of the other Eldar were dead, Khaine just kept on killing Orks. Come to think of it, he's probably still down there in the underhive, murdering the shit out of anyone he comes across. The Dark King was a thing in an early 40k book, albeit not named as such, where the Emperor would become a Chaos God who would balance out the Warp and eliminate the negative aspects of the Chaos Gods. I think it was in the epilogue of Eye Of Terror, I remember ABorder Price read it

​@TheLordofMetroids The faction that would be the Ynari as led by eldrad and Asurman made an alliance with the Alpha legion waay back during the Heresy and have been working together since . They managed to half awaken Ynnead (they were interrupted by an unexpected foe ) with eldrad becoming the avatar of ynnead . They managed so far to collect one of the crone swords from the clutches of slannesh because she was distracted with something important, and in doing so they made the Yncarne bh utterly erasing a Daemon lord of slaanesh . And it's stated they have other parties looking for the other swords with this one probably having been the hardest one to acquire given it was on a slaaneshi Daemon world in the eye of Terror. They also helped a bit with Cadia ,preventing Imperial leadership from dying and also giving them advance warning to retreat from the system evacuating as much as they could before [REDACTED] came along and destroyed it . With a promise to fight alongside the Imperials against the horrors pouring out of the eye . They're shaping up to be a major part of the forces of order against chaos in the times of ending and are actually given some respect for their abilities and aren't total idiots with future sight or diplomacy . Also there's a moment where eldrad states in an internal monologue that he genuinely considers Omegon an actual Friend, which is sweet ,if concerning for me given where their arcs are going.... In canon, the Coheria storyline ends with the Eldar looking like chumps while Artemis and the Deathwatch fuck everything up. In the RH, the Coheria storyline ends with Eldrad half-transforming into the Yncarne so he can eat a C'tan shard. It's the best.

When you write a story there are two main ways to go about it. The first is to start at the beginning and just go for it. The second way is to write your ending first and then work towards it. GW have their own style where they write gibberish, release it, and then wait a half decade before reading it themselves and deciding if it should have been released at all.

I actually know a bit about the dark King so I can talk about it. To my understanding he was supposed to turn into the chaos God of ruin pretty much so he was going to destroy everything, And from the people have watched who talked about it and straight up read the paragraphs and then talked about it it seems like if he became the dark King it would lead to a burnout he would either kill everything or he would just kill humans and chaos would die as well, I think that is a nice idea the fact that he could become a monster. But some of it was a little extra because one it does conflict with his current status where he is a God and a good God, and it also had the whole Samus thing where that was technically a demon of the dark King the chaos God of ruin, so it's just I agree with the thought that they had a come to Jesus moment right at the end going "oh damn we haven't done anything with him so let's give him something!"

On the whole dark king thing in siege of terra. As I understood it, it was a prophecy pointing at Horus for the entire time. Then when Big E started traversing the warp hell hole that was Horus' flagship he took to much of the warp into himself and he started turning into the Dark King. ollanius and gang then managed to talk Big E down from becoming a worse tyrant then horus (yeah sure) and the rest goes as we know after that.

The thing about the dark king is that the chaos gods wanted the emperor to ascend as the dark king, it’s something the emperor didn’t want to become but in order to face Horus he was drinking the powers of the warp and literally on the verge of becoming him. Also about him having a master plan this was something he didn’t account for, there definitely was going to be a purge of some of the primarchs/ civil war but it went completely wrong.
