Wow. I've been listening to Papa Roach for 20 years. I heard this song when it came out and having grown up in a Christian household and community it immediately resonated, and....not gonna lie, it sounded "religious." Today I found out Jacoby is a Christian and watched him share his testimony with his church. So powerful. Listening to this song again it really is his testimony in music form. I am so happy he has found peace and life in Jesus. I want to find the same, I don't know why it's so hard.

This song to me is about God. Whenever i entered that dark place again it really helped bring me back. All i have to remember is the love of God. When you know the love of God you are never the same again. The best thing about this song is it has different meaning to everyone who listens to it. I first heard this song when I had hit rock bottom and started to find my way back to God. I've always loved Papa Roach but when i heard this song , it was the theme song that kept me going and striving to find way back to God and stop trying to fix myself all on my own.

Papa Roach: Not a christian band (songs can still be interpreted as christian) TFK, Red, Fit For A King, ect: Christians bands (songs can still be interpreted any other way) That's why associating music with religion is ultimately meaningless nowadays

I saw them live, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. But they didn't do this song, and I was pretty bummed out. After the show, I was waiting for a ride outside, and someone drove out of the lot blasting this song. I guess I wasn't the only one who'd missed it!

It's funny you mention that. I always thought there were two papa roach. the ( last resort - hollywood- getting away with murder) papa roach. Then there is my papa roach ( scars - before i die - fallin apart) i think both are good but i like the second much better ..unfortunately IT'S not the live p.roach we get. i like the songs with a strong hook, or noodle whatever. more melodic i would say. SO BAND DO A MELODIC P. ROACH SHOW AND I'LL FOLLOW YOU.!!!

This song has inspired my perseverance and steel spirit and my majorly resilient mind for years now. I have conquered and persevered and come back from so much more than anyone would believe and most people would have given up long before me but nothing has defeated me yet but this song definately relates well to me. I have conquered and survived epilepsy for 18 years, cured it with and survived successful brain surgery, i survived being homeless 3 times and now i am housed in a brand new 2 bedroom house, i couldnt have children because i had a lot of cysts in both my ovaries, i cured every cyst in both ovaries independently with intermittent fasting and i still conceived my first child. I had to lose my unborn baby to save and safeguard protect my 2 year old son. I had to survive 3 months without my 2 year old son when he was taken from me. The man i love, The father of my unborn recently deceased child recently tried to kill himself because he lost me and our unborn child because local authorities sabotaged our relationship. I am still here and still fighting to get my child back doing whatever it takes to get him back regardless of the cost because he should never have been taken from his mother to begin with and its my job to be there for my kids and i will die trying and doing my job as a competent committed mother protecting my kids regardless of the cost and i will never regret doing it even if i die trying.

Jacoby Shaddix calls this song a "Callout to God." In the interview, he explained that it's a very spiritual song, and that "God" is simply his name for a higher power. "I see God in music, I see God in people, I see it out here in the world now, so I'm seeing the world from a different perspective," he said. "I'm not trying to be preachy or anything like that, just talking about my experience, my strength and my hope."

How can be everyone saying shit about the video? Are you blind?. Does a videoclip need to make perfect sense with the song lyrics? That's wrong. This video is a beautiful piece of visual art and everything is really well shaped and blended with the song. The color is amazing, the scenarios, the makeup, the fx, the editing and the tension, the non stop runing, etc. We need to learn that a videoclip doesn't need to be the most accurate and understandable representation of the lyrics.

I think so many are looking for the Papa Roach from 8 years back, but he/they had a fire sparked & it's deep. Now maybe one should look to the heavens while listening to this album because there's a definite shift in the message. It's no surprise to me at all, he was searching back when he recorded "Last Resort" where he states "searching to find a love upon a higher level." It's still a great album, the messages are subtle but they're there. The recording industry & psych studies state listen 3 times & you'll probably get hooked, so go binge on F.E.A.R., Face Everything And Rise! You might just love it. Peace.

*EDIT 8/12/17* To all the people complaining that somebody on youtube enjoys intellectual pursuits: I edit MVs. I know the thought processes that go into these things. Music videos are a form of art, specifically film, and like all other art they communicate something. What that something is is up to the individual, _but they do mean things._ *** It completely baffles me how people are saying the video is terrible. Sometimes you have to look deeper than the surface. Come on, it's like high school English. Tobin Esperance explained the song by saying: “There's a lot of evil shit that can take over, but you don't have to fall prey to it.” The video is about a girl who fell pray to evil shit. The girl just robbed a bank. She hurt and stole from other people for selfish gain. As she runs she gradually weakens until she dies as a consequence of her actions, and the camera pans to the sky, indicating she went to heaven/god's side. This correlates to the refrain of the song: “I'll follow you out of the dark. I tried my way but I keep falling apart! I'll follow you, with all of my heart. I'm tired of my ways cause I keep falling and falling apart!” In the first scene, the mother and daughter are wearing traditional dresses and gas masks. This is a symbol of them shielding themselves from the evils of the world and embracing innocence. Later the mother covers the daughters eyes, but she peeks and looks after the girl. You can't shield children form the world forever. When she emerges from the bank (or whatever), people run away from her. She is “forsaken”, because of her own deed. The fireworks symbolizes the “Wickedness around” the girl. People celebrate bad deeds like the one she committed, but they have no empathy for her suffering, and they actually obstruct her. She is nothing but a spectacle for their own amusement. Later, the girl passes by a man who desperately asks for help for a woman. The girl doesn't stop, and the man has no concerns over the girl's obvious pain. She's clearly in no state to be helping other people when she needs help herself, however her injury was brought on by herself. Each is only concerned by their own troubles. This correlates to the lyrics: “I stand here again, forsaken in a place That feels like I can never win. I'm reaching for a saving grace. I can't even trust no one.” She can't help them because of her own misdeeds which goes with: “I don't think I'm good enough to feel your perfect love.” (She may have also been responsible for the woman's state as you see her running away in the beginning) The man is mowing dirt. He is draped in riches, with an expensive cigar in his mouth. There is nothing left to cut down, and yet he continues. He takes until there's nothing left to give. He symbolizes greed. I have no idea what that boy is dressed as, or what the cultural context is, so I can't really say anything about that part except that if you give it a little thought, a meaning will become clear. It seems to me like he's observing the world, he empathizes, but instead of helping he just sits down to make music about it? So he's profiting from the girl's suffering in that way perhaps? Next the girl encounters a homeless man. He sees her suffering, but the only thing that moves him is the money she leaves behind. Again, he cares only for his own suffering, and disregards hers. She falls to the ground. She is literally falling apart, and yet she still struggles to carry the money. She is consumed with the need for material possessions, she can't make herself stop even as she's dying. This goes with the “I can't trust myself” line. The whole song is very self deprecating in that way. (Alternatively, the homeless man may have found the money after she left and didn't even see her, as the lighting is different. Meaning she inadvertently helped the man, just as she may have inadvertently hurt the lady) The only salvation she can get at this point is through death, because no one else will save her, even herself. This goes with the lyrics: “I fall hard and you carry me away. I fall apart so you can set me free.” And then she dies, and the camera pans up to the sky, indicating she has been “set free”. The simplest interpretation of the video is she's falling apart like the lyrics say. Of course, your interpretation may differ, but this comment goes to show that the video is not meaningless shit, it actually goes well with the song, people just don't like to have to think about things.

+SilverDemon You've never seen a mariachi before? That's what the kid's dressed up as. Never seen Three Amigos? Personally I think the kid in the mariachi costume looking all trapped in a churchy-looking location is a hard critique on how the catholic church stifles the Mexican a-peoples. And also those three vultures in the end possibly stand for Augustus Caesar, Mark Antony and Lepidus, one of the worst triumvirates in the history of history. Either that, or vultures just made sense for a scene with a human carcass in a western-y looking setting.
@SilverDemon4568 жыл бұрын
+Mundane05 I'm not that familiar with Mexican culture, so I wasn't sure. Yeah that makes sense. Catholicism is generally very harsh about the consequences of sinning (hell), and the only way to avoid sinning at all is to lock yourself away from the world and not live life, but this song seems to take the stance that God is more merciful than vengeful.

A song about one man's need for God! This should be a reality check for all of us considering the fact that Jacoby Shaddix has literally enjoyed every-single-pleasure that comes with being a rock god. And to release it on CHRISTmas Day: genius!

Video Explanation/Interpretation - She is falling apart piece by piece through the course of the video, it depicts how things in your life matter more than your life itself like in this one it shows money , the fireworks scene depicts the madness around our life and the place where the man and woman are seeking help but the girl just passes because of her own selfishness and greed, and in the scene where her hand is bleeding she realises its too late and then she dies.

+Hait Parikh And society has already "fallen apart"
@izanami54128 жыл бұрын
+Hait Parikh The drugs( which were in the bag ) was a burden of hers, which is depicted in this video literally as a burden. Her leaving the bag with most of the cash was her trying to make up for her wrong choices in life, but to no avail.

+Thomas Byrne I will let someone else have a shot at that, as I'm not entirely sure.
@izanami54128 жыл бұрын
That doesn't sound completely off. A pointless distraction in her life? Or maybe a pointless distraction to her, atleast. Education, maybe? We don't exactly know how deeply involved with the drugs she was, so her education could've been pointless in her own eyes.
