That brings back memories seeing that guide. Backstory my father worked for a printing company and they actually printed the official Nintendo power guide for this game. My dad knowing how much I loved Pokémon snagged me a copy straight off the press. I was one of the first to receive a copy before they were sold. I actually had to keep it a secret until it was released in stores. Good Times!

I didn’t realize Pokémon Box was a Pokémon Centre exclusive as a kid…I have very vivid memories of the non-big-box version being sold at a Best Buy near where I lived. They also sold Pokémon Colosseum bonus discs for $9.99 each around the time that game came out. I have a big box Pokémon Box though….I’m too attached to sell it even though I know I can get a couple months’ rent money if I do part ways with it lol.

On the topic of the the Magikarp salesman, it's really not a bad deal if you're doing the Pokedex! Catching a wild one takes a minimum of 200 Pokedollars, which is super cheap in the Pokemon world, so it's basically just paying for the Poke Ball + a 300 Pokedollar convenience fee. If the Magikarp breaks out even once, which is decently likely if you have to catch it at full health because your entire party will OHKO it, then you come out ahead after only two breakouts. Plus, if you stop replenishing Poke Balls once you run out because they kinda suck, a Great Ball is 600, meaning that if you're forced to use a Great Ball on the Magikarp, you would have saved 100 from the salesman. Of course, if you're *not* doing the Pokedex, probably better to just catch a wild Gyarados directly because raising Magikarp is painful.
@thanksgivingh6185
@thanksgivingh6185 2 жыл бұрын
I would always buy the Magikarp and then do the lead off, switch to someone else method to level up lol. Not just because Gyarados was always one of my favorites, but having that guy so early in the game by the 2nd badge was soooo useful as a Charmander-cel.
@prufrockrenegade
@prufrockrenegade 2 жыл бұрын
I always bought the Magikarp and put it in the daycare center as soon as I could. Once it got to level 19 I would take it out and use a rare candy on it to evolve it. This makes getting a Gyarados early in the game really easy, and I don't know why I've never heard of anyone else doing it this way

I ended up using this guide to do my own playthrough after you posted the first one with the Prima guide. Ended up using Clefairy, and once you teach it Mega Punch and use a Moon Stone on it, it's quite strong. It's essentially a Raticate with Sing, and Raticate itself is a good Pokemon to use early game. Also, I pretty much only used the back of this guide as a kid, since I had already played through RBY. I did a bunch of breeding chains to get things like Ancient Power of Exeggcute.

In kanto, after getting cut, I prioritize the minimum requirements to defeat koga and get hm surf or its equivalent outside of battle. This gives me access to most of the map of kanto and the other gyms are mostly optional. I then train and overpower stuff like this especially after koga, you can catch zapdos at the power plant who is a legendary when you only have 3 badges... Doing lt surge is helpful and erika unlocks the last hm outside of battle. Doing blaine on fire red and leaf green unlocks the islands and access to moltres.

10:58 "French speaking rival" seems like some excellent foreshadowing, considering Blue is referenced in Pokemon X&Y since he made a visit there

You should beat Majora’s Mask as Nintendid. That would be awesome, reason why I think it’d be a better video than Ocarina of Time, is because it’s story is more complex.

This video made me realize how much better the versus books guide for red, blue and yellow was.

The first Fire Red Nintended video was the first video I watched from you so to see you hammer away at the game again gives me a bit of nostalgia.

The references in this guide are pretty funny - you can definitely tell it's on the older side - THE SHADOW KNOWS

You sir, should do a playthrough of Pokemon Fire Red: Rocket Edition. I would LOVE to see your take on it. around 19:00 you said you had no idea how the gym key got there, but this fan game answers a ton of open questions about Red and Blue. I think you'd really, really like it. I hope to see you play it!

I could have used that guide as a child because I got stuck on the old man and never moved far enough right to see the Pokemon so I just trained my Squirtle until it was level 22 and a Wartortle
