This has changed my life. I have gone back and harvested redundant Oxford commas from old documents I have written, keeping them in a "bank" document, where I can reuse them as the need arises. Every comma recycled is good for the planet. I just used 2 here, no 3.

FOR ME, AS A FOREIGNER AND THEREFORE NOT A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER, THIS "PROBLEM" HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CHALLENGE : COULD YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN WHEN/ HOW TO USE THE "LY"-ENDING AT THE END OF A WORD....FOR INSTANCE, " TAKING SOMEONE SERIOUS OR SERIOUSLY"..OR MAYBE,..." TO GET SOMEWHERE QUICK OR QUICKLY".?!?!?!..THANK YOU FOR (POSSIBLY) CONSIDERING MAKING THIS INTO A VIDEO!

As an Englishman, the Oxford comma debate is like the third “war” after 1812, but with less gunpowder and more pedantry. Americans are all for the Oxford comma, while we Brits often treat it like Marmite-either you love it or you avoid it like the plague. Personally, I couldn’t care less about this comma calamity; I just want people to speak proper English. Honestly, it’s not like the absence of an Oxford comma is going to start World War III-unless you’re writing about apes, JFK, and Stalin sharing a pancake breakfast. Let’s have a chuckle and move on, shall we?

In Polish language commas have to be there because if not it changes the meaning :) For example: if you follow polish politics (I know that you don't have to follow ) :P you know that there has been "good change" :) so it means that something changed and it's been good for everybody but if you use comma it means -> ok let's change something :) I forgot to add that I always forget about commas using English language :P

I think I like the oxford comma. Unfortunately in Italian, my first language, the rule is clear: you can join two items using either a comma or a conjunction, you can't use both. If the sentence is open to interpretation and context isn't enough, you should rephrase it entirely. So I would really like to like the oxford comma, I like pedantic and it's actually useful, but because of my imprinting I can't, it makes me cringe.

In Russian we have that "Казни́ть нельзя́ поми́ловать" (literally "To put to death prohibited to have a mercy on") If you will put comma after first word this means "Put to death", if you will put comma after second word this means "Have mercy on" So I am commanist too =)

Except, the phrase "red white and blue" is a single whole complete phrase accepted by the American people as an independent phrase denoting one item or one specific noun. If you weren't describing the flag of the USA you would actually use an oxford comma. For instance; The apple Cherry pie is red, white, and blue. As opposed to; The ship flew America's red white and blue. A good indicator is if the phrase "red white and blue" is a collective noun, one item. It's like if you were to say someone's full name ala "George Washington Carver" which is different from the three people "George, Washington, and Carver."
