Breaking the rules of the universe because JJ wanted something he thought would look 'cool', even though it damaged the canon. This is to not even go into the nerfing of the original characters and films, in particular Han Solo. A forty year global pop culture icon tossed down a hole like a sack of potatoes and forgotten about ten minutes later. Do you really think this is great film making? JJ Abram's movies are the equivalent of fast food and like yesterday's burger and fries, just as easily forgotten. Ask yourself, is anyone really talking about The Fart Awakens much today?

Multiverses have existed for decades in different franchises. They can explain creative differences and allow writers to explore different ideas without actually affecting the characters long term. The Mirror Universe exists because Roddenberry and Co. wanted to see evil Enterprise crew. "Year in Hell" exists because the producers wanted to beat the Jesus out if their new CGI Voyager model. Multiverses aren't inherently bad and they aren't just for sweeping bad writing under the rug. They're handy for that, especially in comics, but the is not their sole purpose.

We can see in that show that design aesthetics for ships at least are more in line with ToS, and the uniforms use the color coding that ToS, TNg, and every Star Trek EXCEPT Discovery will use. Though I will state that the Enterprise uniforms are sort of similar to the Discovery ones as well. However, design wise Discovery has far too much of a departure in almost EVERY category from every other Star Trek, even the JJ movies.

@TechLeafRanger Not really. Discovery herself is literally the Enterprise concept developed for a cancelled TOS movie. Aesthetically, all the Fed ships harken back to ENT while showing the transition to TOS. However, such disparities DO exist throughout Trek. The TMP and TWOK uniforms have nothing in common with TOS OR TNG. And the Fed ships seen in First Contact are VERY different aesthetically to what we saw in TNG, despite some of those designs being late contemporaries of the Enterprise-D. From a production standpoint, the differences tell what really happened: the show was in production hell for years. The plot, characters, and setting changed several times. Originally, they wanted to make it a generational series, with different episodes set in different time periods and featuring different characters. That's probably where some of PIC came from and why PIC reused DISC starship models. It could also be that the models were originally developed for PIC and were repurposed for DISC in order to speed up production. That would explain the more advanced layouts of the DISC ships. They simply slapped a more primitive looking texture on the models.

The Discovery episode 'Through the Valley of Shadows' is literally the foundation for it. You can't remove Discovery from canon without removing Strange New Worlds as well.

most of the tech makes 0 sense to exist in same universe as tng. like they have teleporters between planets, why even have ships and warfare would be obsolete when you can teleport nukes, travel is just galaxy wide jumps when the writer wants, light travel is instant, time is just an another joke etc.

Section 31 is canon. It's just that DS9 and Enterprise did it right by showing how it's a black ops organization willing to do the dirty work and purely operates in the shadows so well that not even the Tal shiar really knows about them. Nothing produced by either Bad Robot or Secret Hideout is canon, all of it is made under a licence granted to CSB for the rights to show Star Trek, who subsequently gave a contract to Kurtzman to produce it for them. Paramount have always owned everything produced between 1967 and 2004. With the re-merger the technicalities have never been easier, they need only terminate Secret Hideout's production contract and if they so chose, his shows could never be aired again. Once terminated they have the ability to produce canonical Star Trek in house. As it always does in business it simply comes down to money. Paramount had none, Skydance do, the question is will they pay.

I've never watched Lower Drecks, but the clips and commentary from future ruler of Earth types and from their fans was enough for me to say it's not canon, going against Roddenberry's universe. However, it's one and only purpose was to destroy an even greater degenerate toxin on the R-Verse, and since it attempts to be a comedy, it need not be taken serious for anything other than it's one useful purpose. which is still more than STD offered.

Mmmm... Yes and no. Trek's brand has been damaged and space shows need sets that are expensive... And if SH is being kicked to the curb I can see them destroying their sets... Which is fine. We can do without the alt style of set design.... But in the meantime it would be cheaper to set Trek on Earth set in say... StarFleet Command, or the SF: Engineering Core... Basically something to gain some traction, that can be used to propel a new Trek series once we see the IP's in safe hands again. But deep down what I want to see... Is Enterprise 2, the continuing season set years ahead of where it left off so we can get to the next chapter of humanities voyage with Manny Coto's scripts and notes guiding the story along.

I like lower decks too and i must admit, everything kurtzman must go. If skydance were to go this route, im not sure how they would deal with everything post-nemesis with the tng crew having said their goodbyes with PIC S3. Maybe they would retcon some things to make a new prime timeline??

Imagine encounters with the ISC and Hydrans (before their possible extinction).
