An original song centred around the Goetian prince Stolas, featuring originally created backing music, sound design, voice acted story and artwork.
After how well 'Eyes On Me' was received as my first attempt at original song writing, this is my second. 'Just Look My Way' was a very difficult thing to put together, not just because of the subject matter but because of other things that had been affecting me outside of the work I do for this channel and elsewhere. Tackling all that, I had constant doubts about how accurate to Stolas' voice I was being, whether the sudden change in tone from such a highly energetic piece as Vox's song to this would be welcome, among countless other worry. But the end result is something I'm ultimately proud of.
Over the past few episodes of Helluva Boss, and through watching the show in general, it's clear that Stolas has a sense of emotional ignorance when it comes to how he behaves and how it affects others. While most obviously seen with Octavia, episodes 5 & 6 helped to cement this further with how he behaves in regards to Blitzo. Using pet names, outright calling him a "play thing" during the summoning, even down to how Blitzo hallucinates being chained to him because of his behaviours. And Stolas seems either oblivious to it or realises it too late.
I wanted this song to address that specifically. For Stolas' sense of arrogance to be apparent in how he can't understand why Blitzo is so awkward about being with him despite everything that he can provide, only to realise that it is his own actions that have caused the problem and how it may affect others. I hope this is a topic the later episodes of Helluva will tackle because the setup for it is there.
As a result, the actual music is heavily rooted in both traditional classic instruments and synthetic soundscapes to reflect Stolas' position as a royal but with access to the cosmos and magic. It's a subdued score, but something I felt needed to be done suitably to match the sombre mood of the song I was aiming for.
And finally, another huge round of gratitude and praise for Ayyy-Imma-Ninja for once again creating the beautiful artwork used in the video. She not only came up with the basic outlines for what I wanted the images to show, but also added in wonderful little details to really drive the point of the music home (pay attention to the flowers). I love how in the official video, the lyrics change to make it actually Canon! Here are the differences: "Come now, my little impish plaything, we both made our choice" changes to "But dearest, I know better now. I must give you this choice." This is probably because of stolas's development compared to the pilot / early episodes, where now he is shown to romantically care for Blitzø as well. "What's left for me in this broken house" was changed to "what's left for me and my broken heart" Probably changed to highlight Stolas's heartbreak but also his love for both Octavia and for Blitzø. "Is this what she'd feel? Abandoned all alone and left to fend for herself? Got some semblance of happiness that doesn't have to end" was changed to "Is this what you feel? Scorned by a realm that cannot comprehend. What you are, so I'll grant you this mercy this bind- on our souls needs to end" I'm guessing "she" is Octavia, but this was probably changed, once again to more keep the focus on Blitzø rather than Stolas's family. There's a couple more minor changes too, but it's so awesome they used a fan song and animated a music video for it!

Tbh, I understand the changes but personally I find the song more heavy hitter with mentioning Octavia. It just makes the whole song more painful and realistic sounding by painting Stolas as a more real person. That's just what I feel like, anyway.

I refused to not notice this small detail so I am going to put my thoughts into a comment. The flowers that Stolas summons are quite interesting choices. So I went to search up flower meanings to try and refresh my memory on it, and this is what I've found: The yellow daffodil in the beginning symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings, something that Stolas most likely wants with Blitzo; a new beginning, a fresh start away from the previous life he had despite the fact he can't really escape it. When the flowers change, I wanna say it's a pale red variant of a carnation. Pale red carnations specifically symbolize admiration and "my heart aches for you", which Stolas no doubt feels for Blitzo, longing and aching to be with him in a proper and loving relationship. I just absolutely adore and appreciate that small detail. Just a little edit; was not expecting all the likes and comments XD and I love hearing other peoples' thoughts on the matter and the like! I've only done a wee bit of light research so it's very neat to hear these other meanings for the flowers :)

After hearing both versions I can understand why the changes to certain lyrics to fit more with Stolas's character progression up to this point. Your voice acting and sound design is always superb, but the way you capture character so well in these original songs is really something else. The final verse when Stolas realizes he's only been thinking about himself and he's making his family just as lonely and worried as he is hits so hard. Man, this is beautiful. In a way, Stolas and Blitz are very much alike. They are both broken-hearted individuals who crave love and affection but have issues keeping them from achieving such goals in a true fashion-Blitz's fear of and inability to understand true intimacy, Stolas's social restraints as a member of demon royalty. Yet, they both have so much potential to become genuinely beautiful people capable of so much love. In some ways, they have already realized a little of that potential, in the form of their relationships with Luna and Octavia-a bit troubled but still genuine and loving.

This is beautiful. You nailed Stolas's voice both in voice acting and singing. Granted, it's not exactly the same as Bryce's but your take on Stolas's voice is still very much in-character. This entire song is beautiful. You can feel Stolas struggling to figure out why Blitzo is being so distant towards him. Then the subtle shift in volume and tone when he realizes that HE'S the reason why. That shuddery little intake of breath before the final chorus... Great bit of voice acting. Loved this song. this is a very difficult situation, since their relationship was built on a transaction: we bang once a month so i can keep using this book. The struggling thing is when Stolas starts to catch feelings, of course Blitz isn't going to feel the same automatically because he only see this as a transactional thing, and him having the issues he has with past relationships just adds to that! I feel the emotion in this song when Stolas says, "its not enough to get through the walls you've conjured up to live" I really hope Blitz doesn't go back to how he was before and he starts to become more open with his feelings for stolas and just in general. Stolas joining a marriage of riches as he has been just a sheltered rich bird with no knowledge of his actions can take onto other people and life. no true live anymore for who's suppost to be wife learning his probably ether gay or at least bi, and now a broken marriage and his daughter his almost fully grown up and is doing her own things now leaving him alone, sadly even octavia wasnt nom affected by this family pain as Octavia doesnt understand why her father doesnt love her mother and throughout her childhood just felt alone and trapped by anger and rage around her blitz ego and fears controll his relationships and who he let's in or even fear if he should at all This I say is such a beutifull story of love and pain it brings is something you dont get in animations that much but this is just gold about how not every love story is a fantasy but a pain of broken people that want to reach eachother and be there and help one another but there own fears ruling the ways making both stretch to the edge of what they fear most and making it reality Blitz being abandoned And stolas wanting to find someone to care for and even finnaly truly love and have a true good relationship than just a rich marriage or se# business situation

I love how the flower changed when Stolas realized *he* might be the problem. I don't recognise the second flower, but the first is the narcissus, which (as the name suggests) represents narcissism as shown in the myth of Narcissus and Echo in which Narcissus is a self-loving jerk and loves nothing more than his own beauty. He then turns into said flower hence where it received its name according to the myth. So it makes perfect sense for Stolas to hold a narcissus while wondering why Blitzo is being so cold, but hold a different flower once he considers the feelings of someone other than himself i.e. Blitzo and Octavia. Truly beautiful song, I love how not just the music but also the visuals are playing a part in the presentation as a whole.

Well things are a bit more complicated, Narcissus was cursed (beacause he rejected even the beauty goddess) to fall i love and to being unable to being loved back, and he fell in love with himself, he drown in an attempt to kiss his reflection. Narcissus are flowers with a sad meaning, it means need, and uncorresponded love.
