Imagine Drake or Chris Brown came out and said they won't tour North America anymore because of mean comments. You know how badly they'd be roasted on Twitter? They'd be torn a new asshole by influencers, comedians, late night hosts, etc. Idol culture is so pussified and snowflakey in comparison. You're gonna let critics, trolls and anonymous children bully you to the point of retirement and even suicide? Skin is so thin it's transparent.

"Parasite" stuck a cord with Western people because of the displayed class war - which is a problem in all societies (increasingly in the US & the EU too). Western viewers can relate to Kim family despite Korean-specifc cultural references and metaphors, and the movie deserves all the recognition. In my opinion, it was the best movie of 2019! That said, "Best Picture" win for "Parasite" was a VERY welcome surprise from the Academy! 👏👏👏

Problem isn't that others don't make a mistake, the problem here is that he did but he and his company tried to cover it up rather than owning up to it no. 1 and through all the self-reflection he has done, he doesn't seem remorseful but rather angry and bitter no. 2. And say he won't come back in Korea through proper atonement is a slap in the face of Korean fans no. 3. Overall, this is more about his immaturity of handling his problem than the mistake he has made.
@pennyinheaven

@@Xentradi97 1) There were people who didn't stop hating him despite going off the radar. Should he just accept being practically bullied? He already done his part yet there were people who didn't stop. How should he react then? Grateful? 2) What's "proper atonement"? What will satisfy Koreans? I'm generalizing, sorry, but that's just how it is. 3) At this point, it's not immaturity anymore. It's a serious mental and emotional issue that coursed through alcohol. Yet people are still shocked that people commit suicide.

@@pennyinheaven 1) price of fame and making that kind of mistake and trying to cover it up. 2) Own up. Apologetic. Forgiveness has to be earned. It's not easy no. But he's not even trying. Rather than facing the critics he'll pander to audience that won't be critical 3) It is. If the job is too much, he can quit and do something else. He made enough money. It's just an excuse. Yes being an entertainer in Korea isn't easy. Audience can be downright cruel if they break to law or mis-behave. But it's also the reason why there are isn't as big of a drug problem in Korea compared to other entertainment industry where celebrities are forgiven for almost any type of misbavior or even crime. You can love him all you want no matter what he does as a fan. But he did an extreme dis-service to Korean fans by exhibiting this type of behavior. This is a big no-no in Korea.

@@Xentradi97 To summarize your statements, • netizens and regular people have no accountability with their actions and behavior. I would understand that ire if he did not issue any apology or did a comeback right after he got released from enlistment, but he did. • Again, at what lengths does one need to apologize? He issued a letter, he was apologetic in social media. How should he face the critics? Sit and drink coffee with them? Does he need a press con for a public apology? He is a celebrity, not a politician. • No empathy, whatsoever. He made enough money, eh? That's a kind of statement from a poor disgusted of the rich. Also, such kind of people do not understand that there are jobs driven by passion and dreams. Not the kind of office desk job that one can apply for, resign and apply in another company. There isn't a big drug problem in Korea? Or it's just being hidden well from the public? Also, drugs is not the problem in Korea, its depression and suicide for most people, celebrities alike. Celebrities can't do drugs, cannot post anything negative in social media, expression through music or other art forms are also limited and more. There's no other outlet for people but to internally struggle and entertain the idea of suicide. I love Korea. I love the food, music, film and art in general. The country is laden with beautiful scenery and rich culture. But there's just certain behaviors and norms that I just can't fathom. The idea of perfection and purity and the harsh and cruel response when those ideals are broken, to me are deafening hypocrisy.

Did he have to say like that, yes because this is how he really feelings. If he was to just keep it inside and ever say anything it would eat at him until he did something bad to himself. TOP has never been one to stay in the shadows and not tell his feelings to his fans. Even through he was drunk I am a proud VIP for him standing up to Knetz. I already knew Parasite would win Best Picture. No other movie made such a huge impact on the film industry this year. The way people were able to connect with and appreciate the story and the mixture of genres all while the film is in Korean, really speaks to how well produced, acted out and directed the film was. I was so happy when the crew went up to receive their awards, they should all be very happy because they impacted the world yesterday-hopefully this also means more international films can shine as well.
@jamesrawlins735

It wasn't a sure thing. Roma last year was the best picture and considered the front runner but lost out to a "safe" pick. Also other big names such as Kurasawa and Felini didn't win - and Parasite got shut out at the Golden Globes and the BAFTA, as well as the Directors Guild (1917 took those awards). While Parasite was considered perhaps the best picture, the fact that Parasite was a foreign film was a challenge. I am so happy - but it was far from the guarantee (even for Best Director)

@@jamesrawlins735 Nah for me I knew it for sure. It wasn't the film that was predicted to get Best Picture- ppl thought it would be 1917 (An amazing film too btw) . Fuck it. I don’t support BB or anyone from YG really, but this is pretty stupid and is being blown out of proportion. Drunk or not, he was just being honest. As Danny said, “It is what it is.” They hate him anyway and while I don’t think T.O.P. hates Korea/Korean gp, he’s pretty much over it. He’s over them. Yep. I am a VIP and I am triggered. We have a man with clinical depression and I am sorry but he is living in an unforgiving country. He has clinical depression. His BIG wrong is SELF destructing behavior and people won't stop kicking him while he is down. It doesn't matter how he acts or what words he says. People being hateful will always find a way to twist it. I just watched Demi Lavato's performance from the Grammys. She wrote her song she sang just days away from going to rehab. You could feel the love and support from the audience and the KZbinrs who reacted to her performance. There is such a big contrast between behavior towards her and T.O.P. It brings tears to my eyes for this man. My hope for everyone who thrives to spread hate in this world learns to feel hate thrown at them and feels the damage that it can cause. Basically I hope Karma truely is a Bitch.

As an Asian I am happy that we are finally getting recognition. On the other hand, while the kpop industry and entertainment industry boom, there needs to be change within the Asian culture. The judging, closed minds to change, hating LGBT, the hierarchy/age stance, etc. Even T.O.P. doesn't want to ever go back or you have idols go to the US and never come back. If something in someone else's life isn't harming you then why do you care? It's nosey and selfish to break others because of your own opinion. No one treats others as they want to be treated and it's bs. There is always some sort of backlash when someone is honest/real. Asian culture needs to wake up, it's 2020.

An example of something I saw in a different video: “This person is Male to Female transgender, and *he* got denied access-“. I know it’s random, I just want to say I love that you guys acknowledged the fact that she is indeed a woman! And you kept using she/her when talking about the disgusting people trying to take her rights away. Just. Thank you two a lot! I was a fan of Korean cinema a decade + before I got to kpop and a decade before I got to kdrama’s, this win meant a lot to us fans of Korean cinema, I can’t explain how overcome with emotion I was and started crying. Parasite has also done wonders for international cinema and hopefully rejuvenates Western film making, which has been focused too much on making money and award show submissions focused on the same boring things. Parasite resonates with the world at large because the divide between rich and poor has become increasingly stark; and unrealistic and materialistic expectations we put on ourselves are crushing us. There’s a huge debate going on in feminism circle over biological sex and who is a “woman”, so I’m not surprised by the reaction of the women in the university but it’s sad to think this is our future, so narrow minded and hateful. Although I think a point that is never explored, is that where there is so much gender disparity and inequality as there is in Asia, you get women acting very reactionary, which leads to such stringent classifications of who is a woman coming up. I just want T.O.P’s family and friends to support him and get him to a stage where he can get help for his alcoholism.
