Join us LIVE (October 20th at 6:15pm EST) for a virtual evening discussing the harms of institutionalizing youth. Paris Hilton has partnered with Breaking Code Silence and Think of Us to host a panel discussion on institutional abuse within congregate care facilities including group homes. Moderated by Steve Clemons, the Editor-at-large of The Hill, you will hear first person accounts of what institutionalization is really like and why the need for change is now.
About Breaking Code Silence (@BreakingCodeSi1)
Breaking Code Silence is a survivor-led nonprofit organization aimed at tackling the Troubled Teen Industry. Through advocacy, awareness, research, and legislation, BCS has two primary goals: 1) eradicating institutional child abuse, and 2) empowering institutional abuse survivors - to heal themselves and promote positive social change through self-advocacy.

to make a real superstar they have to be traumatized beginning in early childhood. Their minds must be compartmentalized in order to control them and make them full time slaves. What's crazy is that society teaches that the rich have no problems, and never go through anything. I always thought Paris was the airhead she pretended be, but I now know it's a trauma response. Yes she made money off of it, but in actuality, she's been masking. I have so much respect for her speaking out and giving other people a voice. I wish her all the best and I hope she can get those evil places shut down.

What happened to Paris seems to have started with her parents sending her away so that someone else could "deal with and fix" her. Parents never forget..when you bring a child into this earth..it is YOUR first responsibility to be the one to care for, love an support your child. Doesn't matter how busy you are or what else you're responsible. The busier you are the more you have to actively remember your bottom lines. Being rich and having the extra responsibilities that come with that is no excuse.

Yea. her mom did an interview with The Real and she said Paris was a problematic child that had gotten kicked out of school etc etc and the reason why she send Paris off to that school was because her friends had also sent their children there and so she thought the school was safe. I guess that school camouflaged well and so she trusted them. She also paid a pretty hefty penny for that school but in the end Paris ended up paying the ultimate price.

Big difference between "forgive" and "not dealing with" , MOST kids who act-out have been treated horrible / frustrated/ ignored / hated /abused , "know people by their children" . As If her mom couldn't to afford to make time to bond / create positive social experiences for paris / provide unbreakable emotional support !! Cant say "they didn't know" when its their fault that they didn't know . Mom had major issuses and ended up projecting her own misery on paris . Mom should have sent herself to rehab / bootcamp to deal with her own crap . These type of "parents " usually undermine the stability /happiness of the most promising/happy/talented/strongest child (their wisdom makes the dysfunctional parent even more insecure) ITS THE MISSING LINK (of why paris was a little difficult in highschool) , paris is a treasure and any loving/sane /sober parent can see that : WORTH EVERY SINGLE MOMENT YOU CAN SPEND WITH . TEACHING YOUR KIDS TOLERANCE IS MORE VALUABLE THAN CONTROLLING THEM... LOVE YOUR CHILDREN , EVEN ON THEIR WORST DAY(cuz thats when it really matters)

And when are they going to start looking at the parents instead of the children? When young people act out by going partying or running away there's a problem at home and why this is never looked at and they just blame the kids, I can't figure out. I think there is a barrier up in teen years. Maybe parents just need to listen to the young voice their concerns, what they are subjected to, or at risk times. Communication. Sometimes parents cause the child to not trust the parent as the push back will be parent will be harsh. Just a belief not necessarily true, because parent has the power.

I am so proud of Paris for using her experience shine a light on this tremendously dark area. I have never seen her so real, so deep and so relatable. A NOTE FOR YOUR "VOW" Would you have created your "VOW" if she was not PARIS HILTON??? A person should not have to expose their battles to earn BASIC HUMAN RESPECT. This basic respect is something u either have or do not have. It takes no effort to give respect to the rich or poor. An individuals soul is the most valuable asset they have. The soul is all u come into the world with and all u will leave with at the end of ur life. Understand, she spoke up to help others not to sooth ur ignorance.

My father abused my brother and I our entire life. I am now 31. We both hate my father and we don’t speak to him. He has still never said sorry and won’t admit he ever did anything wrong. My father is now 71. Extremely obese. Literally doesn’t get off the couch all day and blames the world for all his problems. What bothers me now at 31 is all the adults I tried to reach out to when I was young who never helped or did anything. Many people like to SAY they would help or step in but most don’t. Action is the only way to help children. Have a backbone! Always hear out a kid in distress and lend a helping hand! Also in my experience cops and authorities are only interested in calming down the current situation so they can clock out and go home, not to solve the actual problem.

This may not relate to your story but my mom always threw in my face that I needed help. She wouldn't get me help for my anger issues but she sure liked to throw it in my face that I needed to be sent away. Years later, I put myself in therapy. It helped. Then I became a mom and my son was showing signs of lack of regulation. It stems from development delays. My worst fear was being a mom who was mean because she couldn't handle an "unruly child". However I learned that he needed deep pressure like hugs and massages. So everyday I hugged him and squeezed him and kissed him. He still has anger issues but I did the one thing my mom didn't do for me. I didn't give up on him or turn him away. Anyway I'm giving you a hug from where I am. Cheesy I know but it all starts with compassion and knowing someone understands.

5 years!! How many times did you see your parents? How come they could not see something was wrong? I'm very sorry, how are you today?

Paris, I had no idea you went through all of this trauma! Places like this need to be shut down! I’m so incredibly glad you’ve come out and shared your experiences. I wish you and everyone that’s had to endure this trauma to heal and thrive in your authentic self. ❤️

Thank you for using your voice to speak out against this terrible industry. It's comforting for us to know they've made such a powerful enemy. You are a warrior! We are proud to stand with you to stop this abuse!

This is so awesome that Paris used her voice/platform to speak out. I hope one day she finds true peace in her heart and spirit ❤️ I gotta say her parents suck. There is no way any parent worthy of having children would send their child away and not check on them and make sure they’re ok and getting the help they needed to begin with. It just pisses me off.

I love that Paris has become a Social Justice Warrior! Totally get she hates talking about her insomnia and her PSTD. What happened to her was NEVER EVER okay. My dad considered sending me and my twin (13)going to one of these outward-bound schools in Canada. My mom shut him down...my dad thought this would help with the school bullies...turns out my dad was a bully too!

This is so upsetting, these kids went through so much and its shaped who they are today. They truly are warriors. I hope there will be more of these honest interviews/videos x

I can completely understand their pain! I was sent to a similar place as a teen! And at 41 I have PTSD from that experience! Being destroyed as a human at such a young age changes your whole life!

Keep loving yourself. One day at a time, get strong. You cannot change the past, or regrab events, but choose that which you want and deserve. That is my take on it. The days go fast. Too short. No more self pity, abusers are never worth the thoughts.

@Ohkeh640 I do not take anything! But I do have to always be self-aware. Because sometimes I can become angry and bitter. I have to check myself often. It can be a challenge some days.

Every time I see Paris in candid moments walking around her home, the scene strikes me as so lonely. I don't know what her social life is like, but I can imagine there are a lot of people who like to be around her because she does seem quite nice and sweet. I get the sense that she lives a pretty solitary existence outside of social engagements, though. As a person who went through a lot that was inflicted on me by my parents and have also ended up with similar trust issues, I don't know if this is me projecting my own experience onto what I was watching or if it's recognition of someone's similarities. Either way, Paris, I really hope you're doing better these days. The world sees you, and we agree that what your parents and those awful places did to you was wrong. Much love to you, girl. ♥
