I think my favorite thing about this song is that it's not about death or what happens to your body after you die--- it's about the feeling of what people would do to you. The terror. The panic. The fear. About how even when you're dead, you need to be rotted to truly free of the eyes that want to ruin you.

Ancient Egyptian mummies discovered show women in much worse states of decay for this very reason. Families would wait until their women family members had started to rot a little before taking them to the priests to prepare for the burial, to try and stop any of the male priests who would be left alone with the bodies and prepare them from assaulting and defiling them in death.

This is both cathartic and hard to listen to. But it’s nice to know I’m not alone in wanting to be released from the burden of living in a female body. 🩷 To all of you who relate to this song: I love you and I see you

This reminds me how many Egyptian mummies of women are more rotted than their male counterparts, which was a conscious decision by their families to keep grave desecrators from doing worse than stealing family heirlooms. Or how even now male morticians are not ever left alone with female dead bodies. Or the creep who requested his grave above Marilyn Monroe’s have him buried face down so she’s eternally “man on top.”

I feel like men have a built in desire to fight for something meaningful within. When women are creating music like this, I hope even a handful of men will start to see where to channel that fight. Like we can't even die in peace without the risk of being violated? How is this even an issue 🤷♀️🤦♀️. Thank you Paris, for helping us get through difficult emotions as the women do our best to continue to evolve, constantly breaking the chains consistently thrown around us. 💙

i think the first sentance of your comment is grossly generalising and badly thought out , like your dichotomy is very insulting to both men and women , so what , women dont have fight violence and rage in them also , like there is plenty plenty men who are creating amazing art , the desire to fight and the traditional masculine image is not also not bad in itself the same way that girly girls are not offensive its well meaning i believe , but it would be more advisable to think out a little more these ideas also what an insult when hozier is existing sorry english is not my first language

@@louyou6614 I think they were saying that men are often fighting for the wrong cause and that, when women like Paris Paloma, create music like this, they hope that men can realise that they're fighting for the wrong cause
@louyou66142 ай бұрын
@batsf0rtea And these generalisations once again are a them vs us idea , the men vs the women Women and men are a crucial part of the patriarchy and equal crucial effort to upheld and same go for feminism These statements are rooted in a malignant misogyny and with the assumption that the male gender is inherently against feminine causes or more precisely that feminine causes are inherently against the male gender and an anthitesis to their nature, and this while being false just grow divide that in turn grow resentment by both parts They may seem innocent but their accumulations in the subconscious can be dangerous We can praise a person without putting down implicitly and this singer deserve more well thought , less insulting praises I don't want to sound like the not all men they get raped too annoying guy , but I hope my message came across English is still not my first language

The truly sad part is that the early TikTok version of this song said “for the first time since I was 10” and so many women shared their stories of not being anywhere near 10 before they were abused, that the lyrics were adjusted to reflect that…

just so people know and get the reference and how disgusting it is; "They can’t reserve neighbouring plots Or request to be buried on top" **After Monroe’s death in 1962, her ex-husband Joe DiMaggio held a private funeral for her at Westwood Village. Playboy founder Hefner later arranged to be laid to rest in a crypt next to the actor. “Spending an eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up,” he told the Los Angeles Times in 2009. The paper reported that Hefner, who died in 2017, had spent $75,000 to secure his spot in 1992.**
@jennyx7532 ай бұрын
A man was also buried above Marylin, and as per his request he was buried facedown so he could stare at her for eternity. He had a wife, to whom he told her "if you don't put me upside down over Marylin, Ill haunt you for the rest of your life". His name doesn't deserve to be shared.
@HaleyJo19922 ай бұрын
@@jennyx753 That was Dimaggio, her second husband. I'm sure they divorced for good reason, and he went and disrespected his wife at the time to be buried over Monroe
@johnmcdonnell72682 ай бұрын
@HaleyJo1992 funny how when these sort of things arise, people insist on spreading, to put it charitably, misremembered, incorrect gossip. They don't seem to care about smearing reputations, albeit of the dead. Joe DiMaggio owned the two crypts in question and apparently handled the funeral of his ex-wife. At some stage, he sold the upper crypt to a businessman, who was buried there in 1986, according to the story. That man's widow reportedly sold the crypt in 2009 for $4.6million dollars and would have had to move his remains. So, if we want to talk about disrespect for spouses, or profiting from Marilyn, let's start with that lady. Let's go on to the widow of Marilyn's heir, Lee Strasberg, who after his death, commercially monetised Marilyn's image. As for the late Mr DiMaggio, there is nothing to say other than he loved his ex-wife.

No matter the politics associated with her, she was still a human but was treated worse than that just because she was a powerfull woman

This line "They can't reserve nеighbouring plots or request to be buriеd on top"... It reminds me of what happened to Marilyn Monroe. The neighboring places and the one over hers were actually reserved by some dudes. The one on top wanted to be buried there with his face turning down...towards her. Even in death she couldn't have peace from all of those men. It's heartbreaking.
@rolling55202 ай бұрын
About the tattoo line, I think it has a double meaning. The obvious one is that a tattoo uglifies, but another might that it is a mark of independence . Stealing a woman's honor and dignity even after her death can be seen as a way of possessing her, but if there is a tattoo, it can be a symbol that she already owns her body and can do whatever she wants with it. One of the tragedies of living under the patriarchy is understanding that women don't own anything, not even their own flesh.
