Thanks, mamselle, this is helpful for us beginners. And for me, I need to learn more about fois gras, pan seared. The cold is nice, but warm foie gras is heavenly beyond belief...as is boudin noir sausage. Need to learn more about these.
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Anna, You know, I actually prefer foie gras cold. When it is seared, it can be a bit too rich for me, but it depends on what it's served with. I know we of course all have our own tastes though, which is what makes the world of food and cooking so diverse. Boudin noir can also be quite nice, though I think it freaks some people out.

Maybe I am an Idiot, but It seemed to me, (or maybe I didn't notice, or it was too subtle) you didn't mention or show the names of the place that you went. leaving me to go seek out other videos. You're right, I didn't add "where" on this one since some things (like escargots) can be eaten in many places and don't require one certain place to go - but I do talk about where to go for many of these things on my blog, Paris Food Affair! :) (www.parisfoodaffair.com)

Gosh... never spread foie gras.
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
You know what's funny? For as many years as I've been eating and living in Paris, no one had ever told me that until I made this video. Then one of my French friends said it immediately, that they were always taught to not spread foie gras. Which I'm not sure why - she didn't seem to know, either. Do you know why that is? Goes to show that even if you're passionate about something, you always still have something to learn. So yep, that was an obvious one to any French person or foie gras lover, but I didn't know. I never should have included foie gras anyway because people get really upset about it. I've gotten a lot of angry comments about it, but I do think it's a hallmark of classic French cuisine.

Talk about cliche.... how about some real French food and not snacks
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Francelee, Thanks for your suggestion. I'm planning on doing a list that is actual food and not just small things like this. But honestly I think the best form of French food is the cuisine du marché, which is harder to identify and talk about. I do constantly talk about good restaurants on my blog with real food. This is meant to be an easy list of things the French are known for to try while visiting.
@franceleeparis376 жыл бұрын
Paris Food Affair Blog ... sorry did not mean to be critical... but I spent few years in Paris near Echole Militaire so managed to find a few things I enjoyed.. canelle, chateaubriard, pomme noisette, choux pastry with vanilla creame, pain de compagne... to name a few..and off course cheese. Um y do I get the feeling, I'll be getting diabetes eating in Paris. All I saw in the video was bread, croissant, chocolate spread in bread, thin batter with Nutella inside, candy and snail. Pretty much all carbs. lol
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
Haha! It is a lot of carbs. But you will walk at least 10,000 steps a day, so there's that, right? I mean, you can't eat everything on the list every day all day, but while you're on vacation, I think that kind of eating can slide. The French also have incredible markets with fresh fruits and vegetables, and their best restaurants are serving fresh produce and meats from the market. But not everyone has the same taste in restaurants or budgets, so I just focused on the things that people probably think of most when they come to Paris. :)

Again a top ten thing! Untrue and unnecessary because totally subjective. And even then: there are hundreds or more mentionable eats; did you try them all?
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, I agree with you, it is completely subjective, which is why I say that of course there is NO way to have a definitive top ten list, but these are just some of my favorites and a good starting point, but there is much more that could be on the list. That's exactly why I said that. I agree with you, but for people who are going to Paris for the first time, I don't think that's a reason to never give anyone a starting point or something to get excited about going to a new place. No one wants to watch a top 100 things to eat video. If the suggestion is that I should never talk about any food or restaurants on my blog because I may not have eaten every single thing that exists or haven't been to every restaurant in Paris, then I don't see how someone who is passionate about food in any city could ever try to help narrow it down for people who don't live there. But yes, it is subjective as I already stated, and no it is not a complete or definitive list.

@frenchjulietravels5 жыл бұрын
Hi again, compared to the U.S., it is very cheap. You will pay 2-3 times in the U.S. for French cheese, and it's not anywhere near as good. But "cheap" is subjective. For many people who are traveling to Paris, they will find it to be cheaper than what they can get at home. Sorry about making you puke. Good thing you can stop watching at any time and feel better.

Hi Romain, the video is not for French people, but for non-French people traveling to Paris for the first time who are not familiar with French food. You can't find a good croissant or pain au chocolat in the U.S. unless you are in New York City or San Francisco. And I agree that Paris does not represent all of France in the same way that NYC is not all of America. Each region in France has its own specialty worth seeking after which is why I love France so much.

What is going on with snails ? We don't eat snails every day ! Perhaps 2 or 3 times in our live. It's because it's weird to eat them that we are knowned for but we actually don't like very much the snails meat, we like the sauce whit butter, garlic and parsley. A lot of French people find this animals disgusting and will never eat this food. So stop with the snails and frog legs as well. Otherwise we will speak about lamb's guts, ten years old pudding in suet and kidneys pie!
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, it's true, the French do not eat snails every day, and I did not mean to imply that Parisians eat any of these things every day (except maybe fruit and vegetables). These are just items that the French are known for that I think visitors would really enjoy trying (and that are hard to find outside of France or are not done as well). But escargots are on the list of most traditional French restaurants because they are known as a part of traditional French cuisine. Many people outside of France have never even tried them, so it was just a suggestion. And I agree with you, it's all about the sauce!
@lupebutterfly91616 жыл бұрын
Must eat? Flour and sugar on steroids? No thank you. I know people go to Paris and stuff themselves on baguettes, croissants, macaroons, Nutella crepes like there is no tomorrow. I just can't. Ok, maybe a coffee and two macaroons.
@frenchjulietravels6 жыл бұрын
To each their own! I certainly do not require that people who are anti flour and sugar eat these things, but I’m not taking calories into account when talking about delicious things to eat in Paris! I avoid sugar, flour, and dairy in my daily life but I do indulge every now and then on cheese, bread, and sweets, and a trip to Paris seems like a good place to do that! But if all you want is two macarons, then that sounds perfect!
