Just recently picked up your book Julie when you did a jam with Chau Belle and Lawraunce and Urban Movement in Houston Tx a week ago. I can see some of the things you covered in your book and see some of the things you tried to capture in this video . I remember watching this long ago , and appreciated but didnt fully appreciate the video . Now that I have seen countless videos that our community has put out it has helped me ( in tandem with your book ) to recognize what the videos main intent is. Alot of what we put out pays tribute to our big achievements , our big precisions , really fast and powerful rotations and flips which is not at all a negative thing. It helps build upon each others movement and continue to push our boundaries . But I agree Julie in your book how you feel you wish to showcase the everyday . The food , the good habits , our interactions and feelings when we train, our other activities and how they all coralate into what is shown in the individual tracuers showreel of their big moments . Outside looking in , they look like supermen , dangerous, daredevils , to some degree to some delinquent and irresponsible , But what is sometimes put to the side in our community is how we get to that point and WHY we do it . We work towards being more than what we are because we wish to continue to better ourselves, not be the best, but the best person we can be . How tall does a tree grow ? As tall as it can. Great work Julie , your long effort and looking into our new sport and way of life is appreciated as you continually learn and wish to portray parkour on a deeper , more personal and intimate level to truly give all a better understanding of the Art of Movement. (Cant believe I was there and didnt realize who you were for those days of training and didnt get a chance for us to exchange on what we think of this Arts past , its ideas and philosophys and where its evolving to. Im sure we will cross paths again! )

I love the raw feel of this video. Its not set to some song and it isnt all edited. It shows how much you actually have ot think before you do something. People think all they do is run through a city and go at it. Its much more safisticated then that. This video is probably one of the best parkour videos Ive seen (and I have seen thousands)

Even though i will always be a skateboarder at heart parkour is the next best thing to me. Its something i have always done ever sense i was just a little kid, i just never knew thats what i was doing and i still love to practice it and watch videos of it, especially ones like this where its just friends having fun together. for me parkour and skateboarding are two of the pure things in my life and i dont know what i would do without them... The best to all of you :)

I like it that parkour seems more cooperative than competitive. It's a bit like I imagine skateboarding was back in the early days--before it became an official "sport" with people trying to perfect techniques no one else was doing. It would probably be hard to do something like that in parkour--and that's a good thing. If it's a competition, it's a 3-way competition between mind and body and environment. Very cool stuff. Thanks for letting us see your training.

I was the same way, brother. always jumping/vaulting off of and over stuff and doing flips while other kids were looking at me crazy. I'm glad I found the discipline in adulthood. I found that one missing piece of myself I left in childhood because I thought it was "childish".

Its good to start with a team like a group friends cause you will be more comfortable doing the stunts and vaults around them then if you were doing them with people you don't know. This is kinda buddy sport. To some people they can do parkour on their own but most of the time others often travel in groups.

You guys rock. I wish I had discovered parkour 20 yrs ago. Watching it I itch to get out there and challenge myself and be able to do the same things. No sport has ever got me as excited as parkour does- but now I'm an old, unfit, unco-ordinated tart *sigh* Next life maybe?

At 1:13 we see the Traceur's most effective technique for building mental strength. Never before has it been filmed. As the Traceur vaults the obstacle he is alarmed as his foot slips and he emits a loud screeching cry similar to that of an eagle. Not only does this attract female Traceurs from miles around but it also serves to bolster the Traceur's willpower for the next attempt.

Being better at Parkour isn't necessarily based on what tricks or vaults you can do. Or if you can climb higher than somebody else. Parkour is all about the art and freedom of movement. Why is everybody seeming to turn it into a competition with other traceurs?

Free running and parkour is the same thing nowa days. It's not about getting from a place to another, it is about doing what you want, doing it your own way and expressing yourself trough movement. I hate people who keep saying , "oh! thats not parkour, it's freerunning". So?!? You are the people killing the sport (movement), it is about having fun and being who YOU are. So to all, have fun do what You want and never change your way! : ) Peace!

@brandtsback Parkour is getting from one place to another as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Free running is like parkour, but without the "get from point A to point B" aspect. Free running is loose and free, hence the name.

@HarutoAkatsuki Dude... Parkour means free run in french. The art was invented by David Belle, and a few of his buds, and they got the moves from the french military. The TEQNIQUE is what makes parkour, not just jumping over crap.

I'd love to learn to do this stuff. I've always had good balance and can pair it with speed, but I've never actually tried doing very much with the combination. For one, I know I'm nowhere near strong enough physically or mentally. Two, I would imagine it is very difficult without at least another person to do it with you, watch your back, that sort of thing. I would imagine, like anything else, it just takes lots and lots of practice though...

i hate it that some people now wanna make a sport out of parkour just because it makes u ripped, agile and strong pretty fast. i've been a competitive wrestler (greco roman in germany) for 14 years and i'm really happy with parkour now, just because it is only about conquering my self and not an enemy, it helps me walking to university more safe and helps me overcome my fear of hights. So parkour makes me a more relaxed and self concsious person. I dont want it to be something where you

Its really the flow that dictates speed, Free-running is really the "sell" of a good tracer. Flips and in air rolls give you that feeling of floating. A lot of true tracers will add flips to their abilities because it 'feels' right to them and may allow them to go faster, or inhibit their ability. Only thing i can tell you is keep training and stay safe. ~Saint Nick
