As expats that moved from the US to the Netherlands there are naturally so questions that people would like to ask...and you did! How much money do I need, what about the food, do we miss the US, do we pay for our food for the channel and so many more. Can I live in Europe on social security, do I need a job and so on. We split this up into 2 back to back videos to cover MOST of the questions. Life in the Netherlands is awesome, moving to the Netherlands was the best decision and retiring to Europe as an American was well worth it! Why and how we moved to Europe...some of your questions will be answered here in part 1. THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!

Very open, direct, honest, exposing yourselves, vulnerable. No showing off whatsoever (what we expect from Americans). By instinct, you're way more Dutch than you considered. Not trying to be bigger than you are ("doe maar gewoon"). Great to see that you supplement each other: introvert vs. extrovert. That works and it shows!

I love watching ya'll. I get what you are saying about getting off the hamster wheel and how life has slowed down and stress levels are gone. That's what I want. I have been everywhere in Europe, even Rotterdam. Most places in Europe have the relaxed state of living. However as an American it is hard to immigrate to Europe without getting a job first at a highly skilled profession. I am trying to figure this out. Watching your channel makes me realize that it is possible. I am concerned that if I did move so far away that I would so miss my grandchildren. Thank you for what you do!

Such a nice video, once again. I have an uncle who worked as an undertaker, and lived above the funural-home. Hé has a typical kind of humor, maybe a bit dark, but i understand why you might need that in order to handle the job. Do you have that? Eric? And what are your astrology signs? Can't wait for the next Q&A. Ohw and by the way, we do have mexican restaurants. Not that much yet, but it's up comming.

Another nice video Eric and Tammy, I like to watch your experiences in my country, very nice to see. So you have six brothers? I also have six brothers. It used to be very cozy in the house with so many people and then also all those friends who also belong to it. We lived in a big house, so we all had our own place in the house. I remember those days fondly.

Hi again, so interesting your answers to all these questions. It's me Riny again. Been busy organising a trip with my husband to the Erasmus hospital in Rotterdam. You won't believe it but it was my first visit to Rotterdam! We stayed in a hotel in the witte de withstraat and we walked around. It was so good because i recognised the climbing people up the side of the building you Eric took a foto of yourself underneith it. I also have been looking out for you both on the streets hoping i would bump into you, but unfortunatly it didn't happen. I would have loved it. We were only for 2 days in Rotterdam to short to see things but it felt very friendly and alive. Anyway i am looking forward to the next episode of your questions answer video. All my questions have been answered so far but looking forward to more. See you soon. And ...ooh yes. No need for anxeity (wrong spelling) you both are awsome.

Good to see you guys again. Happy as ever. Before you skip answering these questions: why did you pick the Netherlands ? And why did you pick Rotterdam. Was your plan to move to Holland all along ? Are you planning to live in other countries or are you in Holland to stay ? Thank you so far ! Oh one more: behind you on the mantle is a stone bottle that I am sure was (or) filled with Jenever. Are you enjoying a regular borreltje ? That was fun guys ! Glad you enjoy my little country. Wish I was there myself ! 💕🌷

Oh man ..both of you make me laugh..but when you Tammy, began your bit about yourself...saying that you did not prepare, that was funny and cute at the same time. I bet you were the "boss "working as a woman alone amongst a group of men. And to keep yourself together and handling them at the same time, that in itself is a sign of a strong personality and combined with your natural beauty must make Eric a lucky man..if I may be so bold!! I'm of Dutch descent, but speak no Dutch (400 years ago, there are limits). I was there when I was in the army...I never met a Dutch person who did not speak English (and well!). It was embarrassing (I spoke a little German (I was in the army there at the time), but not well. Amazing people.

Also, how does your self-employment affect your taxes and social security, and what do you end up paying to the IRS? Eric and Tammi: I KNEW IT ! ! : ) Do you remember my questions of last week - and I explicitly stated, "Please don't tell me you are a mortician". :) I KNEW IT. :) 46 years ago my first University Major was Mortuary Science. One of the classes was, "Funeral Service Psychology" and walking out of the class I hung my head with the "youthful resignation" of a 20 year old. and said to myself, "This is not for me" :) There was much more involved, yet the reality is that I simply do not possess the "Psychiatric Stamina" to have successfully worked in so heavily a Federally and State regulated industry. As you are aware, to succeed in such a professional environment, requires a "focus" that most people will never possess, regardless of their high I.Q.'s. Are you in any component of that business in Rotterdam ? Does the Netherlands allow you to transfer your licenses via agreements of reciprocity between the U.S. and the E.U. ? Excellent film. Keep 'em coming. :). Antoine
@SoultoSoulTravels
@SoultoSoulTravels Жыл бұрын
HAHAHA!!! You were right, Antoine😊. It definitely takes a special person to be able to work in the business😊. Eric was awesome with all of the families that he met with - so caring and compassionate, everyone loved him💕. We did not look into a license transfer as he was not working in that capacity over here.

I think you guys should eat at the restaurant in Hillegersberg (Gauchos), travel line 4 of the tramsystem here, it's not Mexican, it's more like Argentinian food, (lots of meat, BBQ-ed). Reserve a table outside, with a view over Bergse Plas, and some wine to go with it. Last time i ate there i had Ossehaas, but the spare-ribs are ok too. Changing careers is not uncommon in the Netherlands. I myself have an MBO (I think college equivalent) education as a Lab Technician / Chemical Analyst. After about 8 years I shifted my work to office work. After 10 years of that, I switched again, I tried several different jobs and with luck landed a job as a landscaper. I liked that so much that after 13 years I still do that to this day. As for geografical knowledge, I think most Dutch (or European) people will know where Florida and California are in the US, but most won't know more than 1 or two other states.

Thanks. Honestly I thought that is was just a part of the way you speak in videos. And believe me if I say I enjoyed this show too. Hehehehe. I guess that if you work in the funeral-branch, you have to either be a happy camper, or a bit soul-less. Obvious that you are the happy camper . Sounds like a gangstermovie caracter. "During the day he is a food-critic. At night he arranges your funeral with a smile. Since you two like to try food, did you try to use the Bastogne as the bottom of a cheese-cake? I hope you two enjoy the weather even without airco. A bit of sun and a bit of rain at the moment, but all trees and plants look very lush and green because of that.

Hello, nice video. Next year i go on a roundtrip in the US. The plan is to stay 2 days in Yosemite NP, Drive through Death Valley NP to Vegas, From there to Bryce NP for 1 night, Monument Valley 1 night and Grand Canyon NP 1 night. Have you done this trip yourself and what is your advice to stay in one or another NP a day longer? We wont take highway 1 back because we dont think its worth it, is it worth it to do it or is it not that special so ending in Los Angeles is good. Again the greatings from Rotterdam Zuid.

Hi there, my husband and I did that trip, 2 times. The first time, we were there 2 weeks, started in Vegas, did the roadtrip and afterwards got married in Vegas - all planned by the way. And the second time, we were there 3 weeks, we started out in San Francisco and did the roadtrip, before we ended in Vegas for one night to fly back home (Netherlands). If at all posible, visit Zion National Park and add a day to your Grand Canyon Visit is my recommodation.

Great hearing that the two of you are enjoying life in The Netherlands. This isn't a criticism however instead of referring to Tammy as stepmother it might be nicer to refer to Tammy as a cadeaux Mom. It has a nicer ring to it I believe. Keep up the good work.

61 years old/young WOW looking good Eric i always tought that you where closer to 50 but honestly both of you look great well done. Also why did both of you not bring you're daughter and her boyfriend/husband here to Europe? American university's are debt traps here in Europe university's are mostly free or really affordable you're daughter will be in debt for a really long time or god forbid the rest of her life honestly should have brought her here as well no offense especially with what is happening in you're country right now disgusting my heart goes out to all American women they now lost their freedoms and their rights get you're daughter here as well ASAP please. Other than that a great video keep it up and looking forward for part 2👍

I've a question for you guys to work on, I never been to the USA so I can't compare, but I know we do things our own Dutch way and some are well thought of one can learn from it you might say, but some are just stupid when you think about it and there are better ways to do it, so what would you change here in the Netherlands what you in the USA do much better .... things you would say... OMG this (....) how they do this sucks in the Netherlands we do this much better, what would that be?
