Hey Richard Hammer, The rotor points to #1 on the distributor cap. When you remove the distributor cap the rotor should be pointing towards #2 cylinder. Have a great day!! Johnny K

Are those Bowmaley bolts, one time use?

Hello! I want to know why you do you put the rotor near the #2 and not the#1? Do the engine run better that way?

+Michael Wilson Just the way I was taught, it works every time for me. The main reason is where I want my #1spark plug wire to be located, it just a preference no right or wrong reason. and no it does not make the engine run better. However I'm not an expert just a novice but I found a quicker method on the web from Andy's Auto Repair that I would like to try one day. "Grab a starter button, get it on compression stroke number one, drop the distributor in so it is pointing directly at number one. With a little pressure bump the starter button until it engages the oil pump drive. Rechech your balancer is 10 degrees after TDC when you are pointing at #1. Done in under a minute". What's your method? Thanks for posting Have a great day! Johnny K
