Mate...Really enjoyed these five v-logs. Absolutely brilliant repair and repaint. I wished I lived near you, got two cars that could do with an over spray and re-lacquered. Be more than happy if they turned out as good as your one. Your right, why get rid of a perfectly good motor when a small bit of body work lets it down. Like yours, both our cars have been well maintained by me and are worth more than newer ones you don't know the history of, and could come with loads of things wrong with them. Found all your videos worth watching. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload them. :)

Patience is a virtue. It still amazes me how patience, some time and, a practiced hand can go a long way in producing top quality results. In my experience paintwork on a car can be brought back from a very sorry state with some tenacity and know-how. I used to buff cars using my hand only to back the paper. I started using a stiff but, resilient sponge because of how the paper would cut the flats and contour the curved stretches of the bodywork. I also use 'Palmolive' manual dish-washing soap because it seems to be the most lubricious out of all of the brands available. I still only compound and wax paintwork entirely by hand, not only because I'm as tight as a miser but, because of the results with a small ancillary benefit of a good bit of exercise. Got to keep the guns in shape, eh? "Wax on, Wax off". Thank you, Martin and all the best to you and your family.
@retrorestore
@retrorestore 6 жыл бұрын
Yes Steve, I grew up doing it by hand as well. But as you know Jimmy's business is doing this sort of stuff so automating the buffing makes sense. The guns need a workout as well though lol

Superb job Martin. Being a banger and stock car driver, I'm not too fussed about shiny cars. Good job as everytime I've had something half decent, something happens within weeks. Mk1 Escort sprayed after being on the road a year. Woman backed into the wing. Same car, got a respray few years later. 2 days later motorbike went into the back. Got the Volvo, screwdriver down the side. Got the Clio 18 years ago, first car I've spent money on. 2 weeks later toddler took a knife to it. Do I care.....no. Don't see it when sat in drivers seat, which is why it's still the same.

A man after my own heart, saving a good car from the crusher. Exactly right too, why should a huge corporate company dictate what should happen to your property? Perfect recycling too, that old Vectras carbon footprint has gone so in theory down the chain of purchases you've potentially stopped another car being built. Looked superb when you'd buffed it up too, brilliant job and all done for less than 130 quid.

I remember a friend who valeted rich people's cars down here in Bournemouth, he always swore on good quality yellow dusters for taking off the haze which of course was in the day before microfibres and machines, on new paint he used this stuff called 21st century new paint sealant from the states and that was good stuff. Now hes retired and living in Barbados or something off the back of his earnings so there is money in getting it looking good :)

Cor they still using G3? That was godlike for taking back bad paint but you had to be careful not to give it too much rizz cos it would take stuff down to metal if u were too enthusiastic, was really hard to get hold of back in the day, I used to get mine from a mate who worked for Bristol Street Motors in south London at mates rates too :)
