This was scheduled to post in May-- posting early in tribute to the great Jayne Meadows, who just passed away. I always think it's best to remember these folks the way they'd want to be remembered: for the joy they brought audiences throughout their careers, rather than just with sadness at their passing.
Many thanks to epaddon for providing his copy of this video.

I got to meet Steve Allen just nine months before he died. I got a signed book of his. A nice memory.

Knowing Jane Meadows only from this audience-prospective, she always struck me as the epitome of femininity. Her chortle (is that the right word?) is awfully cute and unique.

Jayne seems like she was a nice lady. She was born in 1919 and died of natural causes yesterday, April 26, 2015, at age 95. R.I.P.

Jane Meadows was pretty and vivacious, but so self-conscious, she didn’t play well. Always aware of and acting for the camera.

I always wish they'd tone it down a bit. It's like they think they have to be "on" all the time.

Did Jayne Meadows really mean to say that she's psychopathic?
@moonlightray8493

I think she meant to say telepathic, haha... On one of her earlier Password appearances, she mentioned that she's always had good intuition / "ESP".

I could feel Jaynes frustration in the lightning round, I guess she couldn't think of true for the opposite of false. However she made up for it the second time around

Did the nighttime Password always have just one round per contestant? It seems so abbreviated,
@WhatsMyLine
@WhatsMyLine 9 жыл бұрын
SaveThe TPC No, it started out that the contestants played all night, however many games could be fit in. I'm not sure when or why they changed it.

What's My Line? I think it was the other way around. The show started with one round per contestant. Later it switched to having the contestants switch places after each round. they must have discovered how difficult it was to round up so many contestants for each taping.

TMJ Lacon I'm am SO not an expert on Password at all, so it's very likely I'm remembering wrong-- it makes more sense to have one pair of contestants, I think, for a once-weekly show, versus having only the winner continue for the daytime, daily show, so. . . it would make more sense if it went the way you said. All I can tell you is that I was watching a bunch of Passwords lately because I'm going to be posting a series of episodes with WML regulars starting next weekend, and I *thought* I remembered that it was the earlier shows which had one pair of contestants.
@bluebear1985

SaveThe TPC At first, they only had two contestants play the whole episode in primetime, but after a couple of contestants broke $1,000, it made CBS executives a bit nervous due to the quiz show scandals being so recent. Therefore, they soon decided to play it the same as they did in daytime.
@savethetpc6406
@savethetpc6406 9 жыл бұрын
bluebear1985 I also could be misremembering, but I thought that in the daytime shows there was a "reigning champion" who would continue to play until he or she either lost or reached a certain maximum amount of prize money?

I'm routing for Steve Allen. Good if each clue-giver had to be strapped still to the chair -- Ha!, wear a mask -- Haha!, with both hands taped to the desk -- Blahaha! . . . Great too, that when ANYTHING more than ONE WORD were spoken, a PENALTY would be imposed . . . THEN the playing field would be on more equal ground! Teehee!! Frustrating that Steve Allen got warned " . . . But watch the gestures" just before giving his clue "ball" (on password "bounce") --- when Jayne Meadows' nicknames could be "Gesture City" & "Ms. I Repeat Clues!!" PLUS -- after next being warned not to gesture --- WATCH JAYNE *point out* the opponent's clue *right before* giving her clue. She does this when she *corrects* herself (from saying "She . . . ") by saying, " . . 'somebody' said 'ball'," because here, in essence, she's *reiterating* Steve's clue "ball," *just before* she says "MOVEMENT" . . . IMO, that's an unfair extra clue --- it was a tip-off to put both of those clues together (and IMO FAKE for her to say "somebody" which she changed from first saying "She" since, by process of elimination, this necessarily meant the "somebody" was "Steve") . . . A descriptor IMO, to her going so far as to announce Allen's clue of "ball," reminding her partner of it before her clue, is at least unethical, if not cheating . . . so in this case it's junk I don't find funny . . . Lol

Password - "Cosmetic", and nobody gave "Maybelline" for a clue? "Avon"? "Apply"? Instead, the husband and wife kept giving the same clues over & over that did NOT work. BTW - Has anyone else noticed how stoooopid and loud the audiences are on many episodes? They laugh when a clue is given that they ( some audience members) are too daft to understand. Case in point: "Heinz". Good clue. For decades now Heinz foods in Penn. has made Tomato Ketchup and according to the label on the bottles: 57 varieties. Maybe the laughing hyenas have never shopped in a grocery store on the condiments aisle. ☹
