You are so talented Dave! I recently turned 20 and I often feel like I'm just not good enough at my passions (art and music), but it's always inspiring seeing people like you :)

Hi there, I have had similar feeling myself many years ago... how I overcome them was to find out what in me thought I wasn't good enough and was producing all the doubt. The part of you that 'sees' this doubt is more you than the feelings. We are all conditioned persons sculptured by our parents and society, I have let go of all this and just be the observer and I let go of the person part of me... which I know to be the problem. Our true selves are found within our hearts. Fall into the arms of the one you can not see and just let life unfold, trust in your inner self to give you the strength to fulfil your passion. All the very best to you. 😊🙏

Ok Dave... I've been watching you for about a week now, after stumbleing upon your channel. I am actually very impressed with your art works with this medium. It looks so very easy to create B.U.TI.FUL paintings with out wet paints and getting all messy and having to CLEAN UP after each session. Ok you've perswaded me to get right back into soft pastels and try my hand at it once more. HAPPY PAINTING!! 😁

Welcome aboard Betty! 😃 It a fun medium to use for sure. Quite a benefit, as you mentioned, is now brushes to clean up! 😃 HAPPY PAINTING!! 😊🙏

I appreciate how you explain the reasons why you proceed as you do. The choices of color(foreground higher chroma, brand of pastel(pigment rich), blue branches then gray... This type of discussion occurring with the actual work is something that may help me improve my landscapes and portraits, especially if I verbalize my choices and reasons as I proceed...

Hi Brad, thanks for taking the time to comment, I love to share what I has developed over the years. The pastel technique is similar to my oil painting method, working with layers. All the very best with your art journey. 😊🙏

Can you please tell me how you lean on your work without smudging it all and getting pastel all over you and your work ?? Thank you 🙏
@DavePortersArt2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kerrie... I only lean on the underdrawing... after that I use a bob stick or Glassine paper to rest my hand on. The surface has a lot to do with it too. Pastelmat grabs the pastel more so harder to smug 😊🙏
