Welcome back to another episode of A Conspiracy theory, the series where I take a look at Formula 1 conspiracy theories, urban legends and myths. In the last episode we covered Nico Rosberg’s 2016 championship feat and looked into the possibility of it being setup by Mercedes to benefit the team. That video did incredibly well and a lot of you seemed to enjoy this style of content so I thought I’d make another conspiracy video for you all this week.
Do you remember a Venezuelan driver by the name of Pastor Maldonado? I’m sure you all do. He was remembered for two things, one being crashing, and the other being his incredible race win in Spain 2012. This theory involves Williams, the FIA, Bernie Ecclestone and a mysterious fire that happened after the race. This will be fun, so let’s get straight into it.
On the first of December 2010, Pastor Maldonado was announced as a Williams Formula 1 driver for the 2011 season, replacing Nico Hulkenberg. Pastor brought with him significant sponsorship backing, with the support of PDVSA, a state owned Venezuelan Oil Company. With a number of incidents over the years, many would say that the reason why Pastor Maldonado made it to Formula 1 was earned solely on sponsorship reasons, but in saying that, Pastor won the 2010 GP2 title and the most significant moment in his career, was his first and only Formula 1 win, in Spain 2012.
This video was made for entertainment purposes only, no real evidence supports these theories and they should not be taken as fact. Just for fun.
