I dont think hate is that right word..most people dont believe that he should be the head coach of LA.. he has never coached at any level so he doesnt have any experience..there are experienced coaches (assistant or head) that could have been a better fit. But hey thats who Lebron wanted so they hired him. Dont let the media fool you. LA (Lebron) was always going to hire him. All the other candidates they mentioned was just to keep the team in the news after they were eliminated from the playoffs. If they really wanted Dan Hurley from UCONN they would have offered him a real contract. Before the offer was made it was reported that Hurley was looking for around 100million ..so the lakers offered him 70mill for 6 years ..and then signed JJ for 32mill /4years. Either way LA has bigger problems than the coach.. if anything they should have waited for Lebron to opt in or extend before hiring JJ.

Someone must take the attention afar from AD and Bron. Someone that can take the heat and blame if ever the Lakers continue to lose. Lastly, 4. He convinced JJ that it’s a win-win. JJ is constantly using his so-called superior basketball IQ to diminish players from past generations (Larry Bird, Bob Cousy). As though the defense is so superior today, to shut down an elite player from the 80s or 90s. He’s disliked for his “plumbers and firemen” narrative. He tried to use 3 pt FG% to diminish Bird’s rep as a superior long range shooter. His superior intellect should be able to ascertain Bird shoot far more contested 3s, many while being hand checked and far less spacing than now. Guys like Bird, Petrovic and Stojakovic would kill today. As much as I like Curry and think he’s the best shooter ever, if you body him and knock him off his square before he gets hot, he can have a cold shooting night. You put JJ back in the 70s, he’s still not better than West, Baylor, Gervin, Thompson, Erving, Jabbar, Wilt, and other stars of that era. He’s mostly spot up shooter.

We’re not (at least I’m not) questioning whether JJ can coach. It’s why does he get the Lakers job? If I’m a Lakers fan I’m concerned. Also you have a podcast with the star player. He’s not the best Candidate for the job, but the politics of the league placed him as a front runner, even though he’s never coached! Being young and white is the optic owners want. Mark Jackson, Sam Cassel, Rondo, Juan Howard, and others who are better qualified than JJ Redick! Mark Jackson has been black balled by the gay owners of Golden State, because he’s a Christian, but he’s the best option for any open NBA job! NBA politics and the LGBT community is why JJ has the Lakers Job, not because he’s the best option! He has an old man and an unmotivated roster, so the last thing the lakers need is a wet behind the ears head coach. I’m sure AD will be back in street clothes and sunglasses on the bench for at least 45 games this year now that coach Ham is gone!

Stop it. It’s the fact that Lebron is picking JJ so that he can keep his son in the game when he retires. Le Ron is not a Kobe Bryant and knows how to pick a coach or put a team together. Ask yourself why Lebron wants JJ. Lebron was supposed to be winning championships for the Lakers….. have we forgotten about that. Steve Kerr get credit for what coach Mark Jackson put together….. and now it’s falling apart under his leadership…….. Steve Kerr was never that dude like JJ, and how many championships has he won?
@mneri843 ай бұрын
Give him a shot. As a 1st year coach do I think he’ll take a 40-41yr old LeBron to a championship. No. But I think it makes more sense than Illini giving Lovie Smith a $20 million contract based on his work with the bears.
@christopherchaffer26973 ай бұрын
I think he is absolutely the perfect guy for the job. He's a Lebron yes man. Which is absolutely what Lebron wants. But let's not pretend he was "a leader" on all his teams that supposedly made the playoffs 14 of his 15 years. I say supposedly because I haven't checked those numbers. I do know that he was a role player his whole career. Now that doesn't mean he can't coach. But to make him the coach of a franchise like the Lakers with no experience is assinine. Stop it! News Flash!! Coaching is more than X's and O's. He's there to do what he is told.

Even if that’s the case JJ doesn’t deserve to be hated on just because the Lakers front office decided they wanted to interview him for the coaching job and hire him afterwards . The dudes got a really great basketball mind and you know that’s the case because Lebron LOVES talking basketball with him. He understands it and that’s one important thing you need as a coach. You also need to be able to take control of a locker room, inspire , and get players to buy into your system. Remains to be seen that JJ will be able to do those other things but no one knows if he will or not. Regardless he doesn’t deserve all the damn hate he’s getting. That’s all Pat is calling out. The fuckin hate . Bro doesn’t deserve it at all.

Remember not all great players were good or even great at coaching…Steve Kerr, Phill Jackson, Doc Rivers and Pop all successful Head Coaches and were not great players but understood the game…but on the flip side Jordan, Kobe Tim Duncan and Shaq didn’t want to be a head coach or was poor at it because they where athletic freaks but couldn’t explain how to do what they did to be successful…JJ will not get credit if the team is successful no matter what he will only be the problem if they fail

As a Laker fan I hope Jeannie and Pelinka finally got the coaching bullshit right. I dont care what anyone says I feel 100% justified in having concerns about the team I have been rooting for since the age of 5 hiring a coach with absolutely no high school, college or professional experience coaching basketball. It is not hate it is freaking common sense. Most of you people wouldn't even hire someone to paint you house if they told you they had seen it done 1000 times but that they had never actually done it themselves. Not a damn thing to do with hate it is just common sense. Good Luck JJ.

The problem is he's so white, if he was a black guy it would be perceived differently. A lot of people didn't even like that LeBron gave JJ that interview on JJs Podcast. They feel LeBron should've given the interview to a black person.

Being a good player doesn’t make you a good coach. He got the job because Lebron wants him. This will be like Steve Nash coaching experiment.

I’m sorry but he disrespect other NBA players especially 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s and was never the best NBA player on any of his teams!!! He should be disrespected and he’s being disrespected by his peers

Maybe people don’t like JJ because his takes are weak, he’s argumentative, condescending, and the only reason he went to 14 playoffs is because he was a certified journeyman. Nothing special. Watch the Lakers have two losing seasons and then he’s out and hopefully we never hear from him again
@LordArrack13 ай бұрын
The hate comes from the fact that he sucked up to LeGM to get a headcoaching job in the Lakers, while trashing players nonstop who are clearly better than he ever was. He brought the hate upon himself. For me, I like JJ, and even more so now that he's about to obliterate the Lakers. Might as well change the name to Los Angeles Wizards.

I have more issue with LeBron then JJ Reddick. I think the whole Dan Hurley who I played against in high school was a big hoax. LeBron said he wasn’t involved with the coaching search but sure enough they hire the guy LeBron has a podcast with. Now how will LeBron teammates feel knowing LeBron hired the coach
@idrism52903 ай бұрын
I think JJ would be a good coach, but not for the Lakers. Mainly, because every time the Lakers lose it’s always the coaches fault and players not taking accountability.

Steve Nash, one of the greatest players in NBA history, who was a LOT better than JJ, coached and was fired. Great player doesn't mean great coach. Steve Kerr was a career bench player ffs.

Kentucky has a baseball manager who had no prior coaching experience, yet led Kentucky to their first ever college baseball world series. You never know how well people will just fit into a position. Lots of great coaches just don't fit. Thats what its all about. I personally think JJ is a great fit but time will tell.
@j.j.42283 ай бұрын
Most people are thinking he's not good because of experience. It's a legitimate argument. Playing experience doesn't automatically translate. Plus its the NBA...half the teams are controlled by its richest players. The greatest coach in the world can't coach some of these ego maniacs.

It isn't about him not being a potentially good coach. It's about where he is being hired. Rookie HC's have a terrible record in LA. Whether it's the pressure of the franchise and its fanbase. Or personnel issues. It hasn't worked.

I think JJ could be a good coach but I just don’t think he’s a win now coach. With Lebron being in probably his last two years I think it’s unrealistic to think JJ couldn’t hit the learning curve that will deliver them a championship. I think a more experienced coach would have been a better fit for this situation.

To me this a perfect hire for the Lakers Im glad we signed him bro played for Duke under Coack K had a couple good seasons in the NBA was a great scorer for every team he was on and hes played on teams with alot of Egos like the Clippers with CP3 and Blake griffin so he probably knows how to manage people and like how literally everyone has been saying that podcast with LBJ was like a live interview for the whole world to watch Lebron was literally asking JJ so in this situation what would we do and JJ would literally come up with a play on a whiteboard 😂🔥

Shut uuup. JJ is no genius. He had no apparent potential to be a coach during his playing days. He sucked! This guy probably hasn't even seen JJ play in the past. I hate it when people beautify the past. It happens a lot when people talk about the NBA from back when. It seems JJ blossomed as a broadcaster, but whether or not he can transfer over the skill set to coaching remains to be seen.
