Amazing watch. When you compare a jewel like this to a Nautilus and see that they are nearly equal in price you begin to realize the absurdity that has overtaken the high end watch market. Price has no longer anything to do with exquisite complications or watchmaking artistry. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy this fantastic piece. Please do some more of these.
@Ozmeister666
@Ozmeister666 2 жыл бұрын
The price is no longer defined by craftsmanship since watches are no longer tools but pieces of jewelry. This is also the same reason why a Rolex is a better watch than a Grand Seiko, an AP a better watch than a A.Lange. They just have more brand equity in the luxury segment, provide more status and thus are way more desirable, even if the latter are objectively better made.

@@cornmill6516 No, I actually meant better, since they do a better job at being jewelry/a status symbol.

They’re not “better” as better is subjective. Better at bringing status? Maybe, but status is also objective.

I've had a gold 5270 on my wrist once, and it was an undescribable experience. All those little pieces that we are able to see in so much detail in these typical macro shots, are in reality much smaller than what I expected, while at the same time looking so polished. I was also impressed by the heftyness of it! Although it's a delicate watch for sure, it's still made to be wearerd, not to stay protected in a glass case. I hope whoever is the now owner of that watch (I tried at an AD) I hope that person wears it in good health!

Love this overview. In addition, this obviously isn’t an every day watch and because of the price point, no one reviewing it will be able to let it sit for a few weeks, then re-set the watch. I’m told that when buying this watch (or the new 5270) you actually have to meet with a Patek specialist and get trained on how to use the functions properly. My question is: If you let this watch sit for say a month, how long would it take to set the date, day, month, etc? Love the idea of a perpetual calendar. In addition, I know it’s a labor intensive timepiece for the watchmaker as well as the wearer…

I think it comes down to your lifestyle. Both are great first watches. Generally I think a field watch offers a bit more versatility especially with the water resistance here. One thing I might just think about is the color of the watches here. They are vibrant and for your first watch I would suggest something that is going to offer optimal versatility. Both are a little more questionable there, but otherwise, you can’t go wrong.
