My limited knowledge of PoE led me to a build with about 66k DPS, not counting Rods, Salvo and Marks or Barrage (I know, LIMITED KNOWLEDGE). I don't feel stuck, but I feel like for having almost no defense, I should be doing more damage more consistently... Just as I was starting to think that, I stumble upon this build. I still use it all the time for essence rares, since you can setup all your rods under them, pop it, roll backwards and fire salvo to insta it. Also just nice to have for when you need a burst of damage at things that aren't on screen.

Projectile speed on the quiver can be a massive dps buff with the tree we have, it can roll quite high plus the bonuses from quiver and the node translates that all into a damage buff

you want 20% quiver effect because its a big spike, it'll take two jewels prefix slots to do, beyond that you can do evasion+damage prefixes on the rest or damage+damage it's your preference, for suffix it's crit chance on attacks+attack speed, but if you can't get these, settle for one or neither as the prefixes are most important

Console users. If you are having issues trying to socket the deceleration gem to CoS, it’s easy. When you pick up the gem in your inv you will see the CoS socket chain go black with the message saying this skill cannot blah blah covering the sockets. All you have to to is pick the skill gem up again and move it over the empty socket that the message saying you cannot and socket it anyway, it will pop in and you are good to go. I am 62 and this build it cooking now, be warned this build is no longer cheap anymore, for a good dual string bow lvl 55 and up it’s going to go cost you, also some of this armor will too, unless you are stupid lucky with drops and crafting I hope you have a bag full of divine’s! Good luck, it’s worth it!

@ Not sure why it wouldn’t, I am playing right now and I just did it again to make sure! You hit X (Xbox) or what symbol PS uses for this action (square I think) on the gem to socket it, it takes the gem over to the skill socket menu scroll down to CoS and over to the empty socket and hit A on Xbox or X on PS and boom gem is inserted!

general trash clear scales from as simple as firing one rod one lightning arrow up to voltaic marking a magic mob, lightning rods cast twice, then arrows it really just depends on gear and where you are in progression. During Breaches and Rituals make regular use of the Orb of Storms normally reserved for bossing alongside lightning rods to clear the mobs as they spawn. Against Rares early on voltaic mark, drop 1-3 casts of rods, fire lightning arrows till dead. Bosses if they are letting you setup on them which...most do, 4x lightning rods under their spawn point, orb of storms as they spawn, voltaic mark as they become active then cast electrocuting arrow if its safe to do so beginning the electrocution build up, proceed to pump lightning rods while maintaining orb under the boss and your mark until it goes down.

Cast on Shock, Ball Lightning, and Orb of Storms are kept at level 11 which is a 95 int requirement, everything else keep anywhere between up to date to two levels behind depending on how stressed your mana pool feels. Once you have thief’s torment though you just max anything that isn’t CoS, Ball Lightning, or Orb of Storms

Hey, for cast on shock, it's not possible to socket deceleration or inspiration to support ball lightning. The game says that it will cause the skill not to work. What is the work around for this as it seems pretty important to have these supports in there!

Ive watched quite a handful of ranger optimization builds in the last week and imo ive taken the best of each and made my own frakenstein version. I found the problem with lightning only is CC (or lack of) on solo mapping. So its important to run ice shot+wall with cast on crit or cast on freeze. Rods plus orbs/balls are still the main boss nuker. But really ive only kept those two from lightning skils

@@Thebuird Nice thats a good alternative for spirit buffs. I found that herald of ice compliments the ice build because the tree already buffs cold damage if going tornado+ice shot combo. It deletes packs better than lightning imo. And enemies cant attack you if they're frozen or behind a wall. I was testing cast on dodge, seeing as we need to proc evasion boosts, then tried cast on freeze because we freeze in one or two shots, but landed on cast on crit using eye of winter but still on the fence if CoF is better.

barrage is currently adding extra dps by being a shorter cast then 3 lightning rods and adding a huge burst of initial damage to boss fights in our opener, the next best 6 link is going to be CoS

dualstring bows i find when i search for your recomandations are far weaker in terms of dps then others. but i guess its all about the +1 arrow (+1 rod), right? or is it smart to use another bow with more dps and also +1 arrows shot suffix? edit: saw this qoute to late in your written guide "Dual Strings are meta for many builds and very expensive, Try to craft on them any chance you get and make sure to check for other bows that just have the extra arrow as a roll, as those are much less often checked on the trade site. Shoot for a bow with over 300 base DPS, anything past that is just saving seconds as you'll already delete screens."

Yeah I wasn't positive on jewels going into the guide as they're really expensive and getting it wrong could have really unfortunate effects on others characters, Quiver Effect up to 20% total from your jewels is a really big power spike, past that any good tooltip increasers for damage are great like projectile speed, damage, lightning damage, bow damage, attack speed, etc. If you want to go for Acrobatics, some 20% evasion Jewels are going to help out alot.

If you need more intelligence and can’t afford to change your current attribute nodes in the passive tree, Dexterity and Intelligence lines on gear are good substitutes while figuring out more long term solutions, one of my chest piece’s suffixes is currently a high rolled dexterity line just to keep my Dex above 212 and Int above 95

Just wanted to update on my progression with this build. I am level 80 now, at around 54-55 this build came alive, you need shock build up for CoS to fire off but once you get those passives it’s game on. Truth be told this build is no longer a causal player build (not cheap to make)unless you are stupid lucky with drops and crafting, but please do not let that deter you from trying! I am on t8 maps, with 75% cap res, 1911 health and 83% evade, I was grouped doing t11-12 juiced maps, taking it slow and paying attention to slam attacks etc. I can melt bosses and trash super easy, but when it comes to elemental resistant or lightning resistance mobs (mid bosses) it can be a little taxing but our phys damage and piercing helps. Amazing build it’s been a blast, also I started this Ranger 4 days ago coming from a level 70 bomber necro! Thank you again ErvinVT

The pasive tree isnt updated, isnt? I mean, next to the node "heartstopper", they added some juicy nodes, from the lighting build. Electrotherapy add 5% skill speed and 30 electrocute buidlup, plus 26% lighting dmg and 20% electric buildup from the previous 3 nodes

Quiver effect is extremely expensive but it’s the best to get 20% of, besides that any good damage increases like bow damage, projectile speed, projectile damage, attack speed. Then I prefer 1 10% lightning pen to cap it.

This can only be used before enemies deal chaos damage, and you have to focus on covering resistances, attributes, mana recovery, etc with your gear, or use two rings to help.

its based on the damage you deal and the strength of the enemy, we're attempting to apply shocks with an attack that individually does quite low damage, so starting out it's only going to proc CoS every so often, but with voltaic mark and stacking "enough" damage, eventually all 20 rods are just hitting shocks every attack, up to 300 possible shocks across one cast of lightning rods life span which throws the CoS into overdrive. Basically it'll just click all of a sudden if you keep progressing and advancing

I didn't really see a reason to bother, everything just dies instantly so I felt the loss doing anything with ice damage would have for the overall didn't really make sense, especially when we can just stun anything with electrocuting arrow if its really necessary.

I´m following your guide, but only lvl 55 atm. I don't understand how you get that many ball lightning procs from cast on shock. Currently I´m seeing the every odd ball shooting out, but nothing like your machine gun spam. I know I'm lacking levels etc.. more damage, more shock chance, and more levels, it scales up with time and gearing, once it starts rolling it gets absurd. if you want to see more of it on bosses and rares though in the meantime make sure to have voltaic mark on them to get 50% more shock chance. Also Also, quality on the CoS increases energy gain which helps it alot, Quality on Lightning Rods, CoS, and Herald of Thunder have the best bang for buck

For cast on X skills you need to socket another skill gem into it. In this case ball lightning. Otherwise it does nothing.

Why is Thief's Torment such a godly ring for this build? Is it the mana regain on hit? If so, does, like each rod count as a separate hit getting like 200+ mana back each time they're triggered? That's the only way I see that making sense, but I wasn't sure, especially since it takes more mana to cast each ball lightning than you'd otherwise gain back so it wouldn't really be infinite.

Lower level spirit gems won’t change anything mana wise, only using lowest level ball lightning/orb of storms matters, the rest should be the highest your mana can handle

Wild Storm is 15% more max damage, lightning damage has some extreme variance so it’s likely more damage then essence still, but not by a ton and shock chance is extremely overpowered in its own right

Just thinking about it further the 30% shock chance when we’ve already got tons of shock chance stacked likely isn’t going to contribute more DPS then the extra DPS gained through Wild Storm, that being said, I’m thinking about moving some passives around to just get Wild Storm without an Anoint, while essence is far from obtainable

Could you not use the electrocution support gem on Lightning Rod or will that stop Cast On Shock from working?

that hard stops your CoS from proccing as the majority of our shock procs are from Lightning Rod

It works yes, it’s probably a bug that it does, but if you equip it you can see it change every attack on the tooltip

What jewels did you put in the jewel slots? I didn't hear you talk about it in the video and it's also not in the mobalytics guide.

you want 20% quiver effect, then the rest is up to you for prefixes as far as damage/evasion modifiers, for suffixes BiS is critical stats attack speed or both, but those jewels will be tons of divs, so just settle for one good suffix with ideal prefixes

Dex line on your body armour then intelligence through the passive tree, or int line on an amulet are good options, way later a HOWA glove will also do it

Great guide!!! I have but 1 question and i may have missed this in the video BUT with the first 30 spirit upgrade is it handy to get "Mana remnants" first before you get to 60 spirit for the "Cast on shock" and thanks again!

Hi, I am now Lvl 74 with this build and spent some exalted on equipment - my lightning arrow does 8.700 damage but what is needed to get to this numbers like 28.000dps and more? Is this so much dependent on equipment that costs devine orbs? Can't think the next 10 levels will bring so much damage? I am doing Maps Tier 4 now and dps is surely still enough to kill most mobs and bosses quite easily but from here on I don't see how this now goes on to this huge dps numbers? Plus I checked to buy better bow and quiver then what I have and cheapest one I found that would mybe improve my dps above 10.000 is 50 exalted - I own currently 37 and maybe spent 15 so close to 50 exalted after 130hours playtime? Thanks for advices.

Jewels, levels, support gems, and skill levels are all going to greatly contribute to DPS in addition to equipment. Currency and Divines flow in much greater numbers the higher you managed to climb in maps, just keep at it.

How do you get so many ball lightnings, I get 1 or 2 every couple of seconds, sometimes I'll get a bunch at a time but usually they are very spaced out..

It seems bugged that Ball Lightning procs Lightning Rods. On the skill description you can clearly see "...and any Chaining Lightning beams can Chain to it." BL doesn't chain at all, you can't even add Chain Support to it. Or am I missing something?

Lightning Arrow doesn't chain either, but what can chain to lightning rods is not dependent on just chain effects, "beams" chain to lightning rods as well, as is the case with both lightning arrow and ball lightning

Hello Eravin, I have 202 spirit and in order to save mana I would like to replace the Magnetic Salvo gem with herald of ice which would be triggered by 2 of my stuff items (gloves and ring). What do you think about it? I try it in T12 maps with 3 support gems (glaciation, elemental focus, and inevitable critical) but it seems not working a lot ...

I'm not a fan of herald of ice stacking, I feel like it deludes the power of going purely for lightning and nothing needs CC'd if it just dies, and if it does need CC'd I electrocuting arrow it

The abilities convert your physical damage to lightning. Higher base physical damage means higher converted lightning damage

Have you tried Leech % of physical attack damage as mana? Curious if this would solve mana issues. I have a ring with 10% and may look for a 2nd with it if so.

I didn’t, with how much of our damage is lightning converted I didn’t expect it to help more then say mana regen or mana on kill

How do you feel about running galvanic shards on crossbow to activate rods? Seems to have insane dps but I’m only lvl 40 maybe lightening arrow will out scale?

Haven’t tried it, the main activators for the rods end up being ball lightning and orb of storms on bosses with very little time to use lightning arrow at all.

Niiiiiiice build, how much evasion are you using to avoid getting a glass canyon and how did you get 20k damage on the lighting arrow

I got up to 91% evasion before I started using acrobatics just recently taking me back down to 76%, max life has always sat between 1,900 and 2,200 now at its most expensive version. As for the damage a solid quiver and bow with jewels averaging 1k tooltip along with the passive tree got me to 48k tooltip for arrow

The trade market is important for accelerating your gear and upgrades, without it everything will naturally take much longer as you'll need to craft it all yourself.

Do you find yourself using Rod or Arrow more when attacking? Im currently using rod more, it just feels like its doing more than spamming arrow once everything is down and out

It depends what you’re fighting, generally the stronger the target the more rods you want under them before firing arrows, if you’re way stronger though it becomes as simple as one rod one arrow or even just one arrow late game depending on the pack of mobs
