This class seems really fun. I have always wanted to try a build with natural attacks so this seems a great fit. Plus, a bit unrelated, but the design of it's default armor look is actually pretty cool with the tattoos and animalistic hands and feet. I dig it.

I've been running Dragon blood, and I have to say, being able to go Gold form when I was fighting demons that fling fire has been astounding. Yes, the loss of the various minor forms hurts, but given our primary opponents, I think it becomes a meaningful trade-off.

@@felixmortem4272 If you're going gold dragon, I'd say go with base shifter. There's a tremendous amount of overlap between Gold Dragon and Dragon Blood, so many of the powers would just go wasted. 5 Minor powers plus Gold Dragon mythic, though... Oof, that'll be a monster. For Dragon Blooded, I'd say Azata is likely best. Granted, that may just be because running around with a pair of Dragons in the party is fun.

One point to note - It said you can't use the monk's WISDOM bonus to stack with AC count... BUT I do wonder if you could do so with a Scaled fist. Since I think the monk's unarmed mastery IE damage increase per level would be a great role play dip with Shifter. Just a mechanics curiosity. It would be fun if you could blend 3 Scaled Fist with 3 Paladin and the rest Shifter for some nice boosts to saves with Charisma. Plus unarmed damage; plus the AC from Shifter's wisdom score on top. But I'm not sure if Owlcat would allow that.

So if it won't stack with Wisdom because it's a wisdom based bonus - much like the deflection AC issue with Armor in general; it might do if your source of the bonus was a different attribute. Or maybe I think about this stuff too much. Either way lol.

The game won’t stack different attribute AC boosts. Like Barbarian / Monk gives you the better of wis or con. Also my guess is that mono damage scaling doesn’t work with shifter because you are making natural weapon attacks, not unarmed strikes

So this is me planning, but I think rage shaper ground slam probably is broken with demon and aspect of kalavakus, the same as deadly earth of the kineticist, because you get a free attack against every enemy when you do a combat manuver against an enemy

Also probably worth mentioning manticore form also gives a dodge bonus to ca for mele attacks like all flying creatures, that can be helpful in the early levels considering it's a level 9 feat for aasimar and tiefling

@@raff_spriggles_tfn5910 You are not wrong. many class/arch-types have ratings jumps. I generally see them however, as niche or flavour, and the power curve goes up or down. However, with the Shifter, it seems the mechanics are generally similar (I use the word with a pinch of salt here) but do spike and drop in a more pronounced way - not that there are not other examples, but many arch-types can still be close or near the average power level for the class.

Owlcat did a great job with shifter, great martial class with a lot of flavor in the subclasses (Manticore is quite unique in particular a ranged natural weapon user? Cool) and a powerful base class.

Lycanthropy tends to be something different to shifters in D&D or Pathfinder; which is based on D&D. Though I agree, I like werewolves myself. So it would have been nice. Maybe next time? Or hope that Diablo 4 doesn't suck, since they're bringing Druid back.

Agree with most of the rankings. I'd suggest that manticore is a potential S class. The scaling mechanics for it's ranged attacks as a solo lvl 20 class are *fantastic* I can only imagine they'll be some absolute sillyness when multiclassed and paired with trickster or lich... There's even a solid case for a legend playthrough with it. Other than that, it's a pretty solid class, much of it not unfair viable.. but there's still fun to be had.

"Rageshapers can also select Chaotic Good or Chaotic Evil" - umm. Are you sure about that? Because it's not working for me, thought it is entirely possible one of my mods is screwing things up for me (early days with a new patch, there are always some extra kinks). Because I would agree with you that this class (and archetype) would be great for a Demon playthrough, but I believe that if you shift alignments to Chaotic Evil, you wouldn't be allowed to level up in this class again until you use a scroll of atonement (or otherwise shift to an allowed alignment), which would get old pretty quickly.

Curious with the new mythic armor feats if you made a wild effigy now and gave them heavy armor and tower shield feats with the heavy and tower shield dr staking you got to be looking at something crazy like 50DR end game

While Dragonblood Shifter does sacrifice many buffs for many many levels, it does allow you to heal from taking elemental damage which can be super powerful in the right situations (you can adapt it as a Swift Action, so pretty much instantly). So it seems a viable choice, but flavor choice, where you sacrifice the versatility of the base class though.

Yeah it can be very powerful but a little too situational for me.

Definitely an edge case, but for a PC Kineticist in many ways friendly fire is their only balancing mechanic. To the point that many go Undead over Demon (despite doing literally like 1/3 the damage) simply because they have a way to avoid friendly fire. Now everyone does... You'd just have to make multiple Dragonblood party members. Vastly reduced utility sure, but at that point all you really need are people to charge in and mow down the bowled over enemies. They'll get a massive heal every time they move through a fire wall and deadly earth magma should mostly be a wash since the physical damage can be totally offset by the fire healing of the effect.

I for one am curious about how much synergy a shifter would have with a demon mythic path play through, stacking all those different aspects together could hopefully lead to some crazy combinations, assuming that they would stack. Although given that shifter requires to be neutral, I guess I would be forced to only use rage shifter since they are allowed to be evil? Which is kind of a shame since base shifter is more powerful as you noted in your review. I had also been thinking fiendflesh shifter to go even more along with a demon play though, but I guess that might not work as well either...

I'm confused about the wording on the Shifter's Edge feat. It specifically says "and you use your dex bonus on attack rolls and your str bonus on damage rolls". Does that mean that if you use Mythic Weapon Finesse to change your damage rolls to be based on dex it turns this feat off? If so then I'm not sure Shifter's Edge is worth it, you have to pump an extra stat to get bonus damage that would probably be pretty comparable to just using your dex for damage and pumping that stat alone. Sure you're going to lose 10 damage per attack at level 20 by not taking it, but if you DO take it you'll lose whatever you'd have gained by using dex for damage and to make up for it you'll have to pump str instead of or in addition to dex. That's assuming I'm reading this right, if Shifter's Edge keeps working even when you have Mythic Finesse then obviously it's amazing. Some of this new stuff in general seems like it suffers from not knowing what it wants to be. Shifter's Edge not knowing if it wants you to be running a str build or a dex build. The new feats that require 19 wisdom are obviously for druids rather than shifters since it's hard to see why any shifter would ever stack wisdom as a non spellcaster, but why on earth would Frightful Shape use Charisma modifier? None of these classes use Charisma! They're not going to pump a whole new stat just to increase the save on a middling feat. What even is this design?

I believe that you are correct it doesn't work when you have Mythic Weapon Finesses activated and therefore there it's not worth it. Not sure who is supposed to benefit from the fit but I wanted people to know it's available.

​@@SlanderedGaming Of note: it is only SPECIFICALLY mythic Weapon Finesse that disables Shifter's Edge. With an Amulet of Agile Fists and SE all of your natural attacks will scale off of dex bonus, + the enchantment of the amulet + half your shifter level. Being a natural attack based class it seems difficult to imagine they DIDN'T test the amulet on it so... probably working as intended? +10 to all damage rolls is a pretty darn solid feat! What is far more LIKELY to be a bug, is that this bonus damage also triggers on (for example) every instance of elemental damage on the weapon, claws of the sacred beast, etc... With the ring that converts all damage to force that's... potentially a TON of extra damage on every attack from 1 feat (Like +70 barely trying). That's *almost* "elemental barrage good". Pretty good for a class that's not exactly attack starved. (Note: all shifters effectively get Improved Flurry of Blows so long as they wield Hasty Eradicator in their base form).

So personally - I'm dissapointed with the fiendish shifter - the only scenario where he can be used effective is "Through the ashesh". In the other scenarios - normal shifter just seems better. On the other hand Fey seems crazy - better bab then rogue, better saves then rogue, same amouth of SA dices, more attacks, more everything. The only downside is small amouth of skill points (you still need someone with trickery etc) Also maticore doesn't work correctly (at least according to ppl on reddit)

Why did they make the Dragonblood Shifter so awful? Like it should be as powerful as the normal shifter and give you a reason to use it over the Dragonkind spells or just playing a Druid. Same with the Fiendish Shifter. Like give us at least a Devil aspect or a Thanadaemon. Why would you use it over just anything else and going Demon mythic? I really hope they get buffed in an update because they seem like such awesome classes.

you rate teh wisdom bonus very high, but why? You either have to be unarmored, or the bonus gets cut in half. You pretty much have to pursue a build that is unarmored and makes your attacks finesse

It's not clear from the description but my assumption is the spikes are treated like composite bows where Dexterity is rolled and your strength bonus is added.

I think S+ is overstating it. The class doesnt look like a particularly good tank, it doesnt have reach, and when all's said and done, its a squishy melee damage dealer. Is this really going to be able to match the surivivability and damage output of the best melee classes, like a reach weapon mutation or twohanded warrior, or a demon slayer mounted on its animal companion? Its seems rather unlikely browsing the mechanics. It also suffers from not being very good for multiclassing outside of legend. The feyform could be a high damage option by virtue of the sheer volume of attacks with full sneak attack progression, and I would say the manticore is a relatively more effective ranged warrior than the base shifter is a melee warrior. Personally, I think shifter should have ranger level spell casting with a spell list focussed on natural attack buffs from the druid spellbook.

Definitely agree that this class is horrible for multiclassing and that spell casting makes everything better. That being said a Shifter with Spider, Wolf, Bear, Tiger, and Mammoth Minor Forms while using the Spider Major form is basically an Instinctual Warrior with better stats and saves. That is definitely S+. Maybe you'll feel differently after seeing my Shifter Aspects breakdown tomorrow.

Some of the Archetypes are pretty disappointing. The Dragonshape Shifter should at least get +charisma to AC. The Rageshaper should get rage powers.

Yeah some of what is here is absolutely fantastic but the Dragonshape option sticks out like a sore thumb.

This class don’t gel with me. I don’t like druids on a good day and a class that focuses on just the shapeshifting… nah. I prefer classes that are good or great the whole day. Not a class that’s good for a few minutes a day and terrible the rest. I did Ulbrig’s quest and he barely pulled his weight while transformed. Difference is the rest of my team is great all the time.

I cannot stand Druid's either but for some reason Shifter's appeal to me. I think this is especially great for Wenduag.

The new class might be able to ramp all the numbers on the panel to 100 if you have a skald, an alchemist and a brownfur considering how many things stack on this class
