Every ER needs an Austin. Someone who isn't afraid to ask questions and get the full story, but also shows empathy and wants the best for the patient without judging them for what they've done to get themselves in the situation they're in.

Agreed...I've had severe health issues since I was 2.5 so I've dealt with my fair share of understanding and jerk nurses
@JustAnotherDronePilot7 ай бұрын
@@rat_dragon I worked in a hospital for the better part of 5 years as a security guard and dispatcher. Been in many a situation where I had to liaise between nurses, doctors, and patients because of the lack of empathy. Communication is so important and I wish people were able to put aside their pride and just get the job they're there to do done.
@rat_dragon7 ай бұрын
@justinw.7407 agreed...once I had an incompetent nurse drawing my blood. I was 13 years old, used to it by then but she couldn't stick the vein, getting frustrated and treating my family & poorly. I was hydrated. It hurt like heck the way she dug into my arm. She called for help stating she "has a child giving her trouble" and guess who came...an incredible lady who had been drawing my labs for years. She said "oh, it's Matt! I never have problems with him!" I'd never seen anyone look as embarrassed as that rude nurse. I never saw her again... It just goes to show that talent, keeping your cool, and being kind is the way to go for healthcare. Heck, my mother and father were both combat nurses in the army haha
@A---ti3zz7 ай бұрын
I think they are all kind of like that at least why. you are there. When I had my bowel obstruction and was throwing up nonstop the EMT working in the ER was super professional and kind. In my experience the ER is about the only place that actually has good people working there. Once you are admitted good luck. The nurses on the floor left me puking nonstop for 15 hours because my ng tube was in my esophagus.
@TheMazinoz7 ай бұрын
@@JustAnotherDronePilotYes, I feel sorry for security guards in ER. Been a patient who was abused repeatedly in ER and if I said anything the incompetent nurses would call security though I had done nothing. I think my ophthalmologist may have ripped into them as he correctly assessed the situation and was pissed. Seeking help to prevent suddenly going blind is an emergency. Ambulance because driving is NOT a good idea if your blind. The security guard also got the situation and was the most compassionate sensible person there, no arrogant bullying ego.

Unfortunately sometimes it takes over a year to get that point across. Apparently personal accountability is something that is not taught anymore.

I've had a few "Austins" as intake nurses. So refreshing. Whatever stupid thing you did, they at least are decent about it. People don't want to go to the ER and be mocked, laughed at, or had someone roll their eyes and huff at them. I think that's part of the reason, beyond the risk of crippling debt, that people don't go when they need to. I'm chronically ill and usually just confident that whatever is wrong, if I don't clearly have a festering flesh wound or bone broken at an odd angle, then I'll heal. 😅

In theory, but I can imagine it getting way more difficult if your body is really tense, or if it was something weird shaped that would hurt on the way out. The first time I tried a menstrual cup it was a challenge to get it out and quite painful and uncomfortable. And that was a soft rubber thing with a stem to pull. (Not the usual experience, and I've now been using them happily for 20 years, but those muscles can clamp down hard in the wrong situation).
