I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time. A very worthy successor to Shinobi .The Genesis / Megadrive version was my nemesis. I loved it and the music was superb for the time. I’m now going to sit back with a coffee and watch my favourite game guy cast his ninja gaze over one of my all time fave classics. Thanks Pat 👍

I can count the number of times I beat this game on one hand on my Genesis. And I was like 12. Can't beat it today, lol. Guess I need practice. Kids these days have no idea what it meant to die on the last level. No extra lives. No continues. You were screwed and had to start over. Zoomers heads would explode.

Always really enjoyed this game. Unlike Shinobi, which was everywhere, the only place I ever saw this one was at one of our local movie theaters, but I usually popped in a quarter or two whenever I stopped in. The dog was a cool mechanic, the only problem was that because he was activated by holding down and pressing attack, I'd occasionally unleash him (har har) when I didn't want to and was just trying to do a crouch attack. Only a minor flaw in an otherwise excellent game, though. On another topic, have you ever considered doing a video for IREM's "In the Hunt"? That was another one I used to play a lot at the same movie theater, and I was already thinking about it after your recent Strider video because that was another game with some really huge and distinctive bosses.

This is my favorite Shinobi game of all time. Shame it never received a proper Arcade port for home consoles. The graphic sprites are beautiful, the best in any Shinobi game. The stages are nice. The challenge is great, it's really hard. The Genesis/Megadrive version is ok. I get bored with it. It's my least favorite of the Genesis/Megadrive trilogy.

Mind you, though....I always hear the term 'quarter muncher'....you must be lucky then, in the Netherlands every arcade game had a one credit for one guilder (pre euro)...which made it around 4 quarters per credit 😉

My System 18 copy of Shadow Dancer is a non-suicide board. All mask Roms, and a couple original EEPROMS. As for the Genesis version, it wasn't really a port, but a branch of the original Shinobi and Revenge of Shinobi (Super Shinobi). I really wish that they attempted a proper port for the Genesis, now that I have seen the Master System port, they could have done a good job.

I always thought that the cave level didn't make sense with the "plot" that this game has. Who would care if there's a bunch time bombs are set up in a cave? I can understand the other levels. As for Shadow Dancer while the Genesis version wasn't quite what I hoped for it was decent. Genesis only Shinobi III is easily my favorite. Not only a favorite for Shinobi or Genesis games but also a favorite for Ninja games and even a favorite for action games. I played Shadow Dancer first on my Genesis and when I saw the game in arcade for I was like "WTF is this??". Usually it's the opposite. But years later I played it again on MAME form and came to enjoy it.

I always wondered if this game was in any way a sequel or related to Shinobi at all. Btw, listen to what Mr.Patman said from 18:13 - 18:20: "As far as the sound goes, it's as quiet as a S.B.D in church, letting out only the shortest but sweetest of blast! 😲 I haven't heard a funny line like that since I was a naughty little child. 😆 Now I'm guessing that S.B.D stands for Silent But Deadly or perhaps Silent But Dangerous, but I always knew it as S.B.V (Silent But Violent). 😝 Anyways, I can't wait to get my M.A.M.E groove back on and check out Shadow Dancer on that. The M2 Sega Ages Shinobi is absolutely fantastic. Wish they'd done more inc Shadow Dancer and maybe Power Drift. Which do you think is better - Shadow Dancer or Super Shinobi?
