@GabeSutton216 ай бұрын
The book actually makes pat look pretty guilty during this part, he tries his best to act normal and human but he struggles, especially since he's making everything up as he goes. In the book he talks on the phone for a bit longer before talking to the detective, and as he's watching Kimball look around his office he gets uncomfortable which causes him to stop talking into the phone for sometime before he realizes he's still supposed to be talking and Kimball looks at him strangely. Then when Kimball asks where he went to school, he's much more reluctant to answer and is almost unsure of it because he says it as a question. "He went to yale.. right?" Which makes him look suspicious considering his comment about him being apart of "that whole Yale thing". He is so unorganized in his thoughts that he really isn't sure how he was able to play his way out of this interaction.

"I just wanted to know if you knew." Bateman knew the point of the meeting as soon as Kimbel (Defoe) made that comment. I think it's a little weird that Defoe's character didn't identify himself. What was he? A Cop or just an investigator. So an investigator for who? I think this mystery as to who Defoe's character really is adds to the intensity of the scene.

@@dissy5563 I think Defoe's character said he was hired by---I think it was Paul Allen's family?--but I liked the way the dialogue was kind of vague. I mean was Defoe's character a Cop or a PI? If Defoe's character had shown up with a badge, that would have wrecked the scene.

I never realized how good Bale’s acting was on this scene. The little nuances that look so real of someone who fears getting caught but also appearing and suave.

Surprised the detective didn’t suspect something was off when Patrick Bateman said he had to lunch with a fictional character on a popular 80’s tv show… But he focused on the location instead…

Christian Bale’s performance in this movie was next level brilliant.
@shltrev89983 ай бұрын
What makes this scene so unpredictable is that Defoe actually did three takes - one where he was certain that Patrick was innocent, one where he was unsure either way, and another where he was certain Patrick was guilty. They spliced those together and it really throws you for a loop when his demeanor completely changes. Fantastic movie

Dafoe is really an amazing actor. Imagine the detective being played by Steven Seagal, Adam Sandler or Nicholas Cage and you'll know what I'm talking about
@Tallahassee21 Жыл бұрын
Once you're labeled a character actor. It's hard for people to see that you are even capable of a captivating performance. Nicholas Cage and Adam Sandler are very much capable but so much of what people think are their personalities is what they see when they embody roles they take. Id probably put Steven Seagal I'm that list though, I've yet to see anything he's done in film that would prove otherwise.
