Gotta say if nothing else, it's incredibly gratifying to see Pat beat down the furnace golem about as early as I did and also come to the same conclusion that the Sekiro hardtear is the coolest and most broken shit in this DLC. I didn't catch who said that "Pat hasn't fought any real bosses yet" but the implication that the tear isn't crazy good is wild to me when it makes all the rad new paired weapons and weapons intended for twohanding immensely viable once you download any bosses patterns. Martial Arts plus Instant Blocks is unbelievably badass.

I cannot emphasize how much I appreciate how careful From was to make this DLC approachable for anyone who used Varre to get to Mohg early. I have felt capable of tackling anything thus far and if it an encounter seems too steep a climb, it's pretty easy to disengage and fuck off somewhere else to get stronger and come back later.

so 3 things i adore about Bayle and his fight. 1, CURSE YOU BAYLE! Igon is just the fcking best summon in the whole game, without a fcking doubt. he does solid damage, lives an astonishingly long time all things considered, all while screaming with broken legs. it's fcking awesome. also i love how he yells "with a hail of HARPOONS!" 2, you can tell just how fcking hard Placi gave it to him. like, his leg is entirely gone, both wings shredded and torn the fck off, and he still has two placi heads STUCK IN HIS NECK. he is capable of generating spectral wings out of sheer spite, which is what he used to GTFO from the placi fight. it's badass. 3, HE IS A FCKING FATALIS. like Pat was talking bout how the great katana moveset was like the monster hunter long sword moveset. well Bayle's whole thing is taking over the person who devoured his heart and then start regenerating from that. so cannonically, eventually Bayle will consume the tarnished from the inside and convert them into Bayle. it's fcking sick. bonus 4, this one is a little meta. but in several boss vs boss fights i have seen, Bayle and Placi (even unscaled to Bayle's DLC bullshit) are pretty even. and Placi's double super laser SHREDS through his health. it's fcking awesome.

I remember in my first playthrough I ended up with a intelligence/faith build just to use the Night and Flame sword (which later became me dual wielding the Carian and Miquellan straight swords. So imagine my surprise when I get a boss weapon that’s just that in one.

I cheesed Bayle so hard that I felt a deep sadness within me. I had seen phase 2 and had an idea, when he went down for the riposte before the phase transition I popped the cerulean hidden tear and blasted his head with comet azur and he fucking DIED. It did like 70% of his life bar. Completely skipped phase 2.

They're absolutely designed to be possible to be defeated by yourself with no assist, however, how you play is entirely up to you. What matters the most is to have fun and how you wanna have fun. I beat them by myself and it was hard AF, but that's something i imposed on myself. Like pat said, there's a billion summoning signs for npc's, so the game is totally ok with you summoning all this stuff to help out.

Bayle looked a lot harder here than he really is. Some tips: 1. Don't use dragon breaths against him. They're way too slow and leave you way too vulnerable for this fight. 2. Alexander chunk for stronger L2, then physical negation +3 and fire negation +3. Whatever you want after that but might as well incantation buff talisman. 3. L2 him in the head when he takes a breather. Otherwise keep distance, let Igon distract and throw stuff at him. Harpoons obviously, then quick incants like lightning bolt or throw blood at him if you're getting impatient. This strat of ignoring talisman loadout and thinking you have to R1 or R2 for the win is overly limiting and self defeating.

The smithing stones seeming random is done because technically, you could miss or just not have the smithing stone bellbearings. I brought my RL116 Faith Paladin into the DLC with plus 19 weapons and then rememberd that I hadnt even got to Faram Azula yet.

I'm on PC, and the performance hit is DEFINITELY related to ray tracing. I had it on during the whole main game and it was buttery smooth. Suddenly, shadow realm is down at 45-50 fps frequently with ray tracing on. Turned it off and it's buttery smooth again. I'm on a 4090 and a 14900k. So that ray tracing hit is severe, for some reason.

The fact that no one acknowledges that the character has gone through all or like 99% of Elden Ring (the game itself does a reset in terms of story to before you beat Radagon/Elden Beast) is kinda weird. Like in the previous games there were normally reasons of some sort for the NPCs to be uninterested in your proper progress in the base game but that's not really the case here.

I had a rougher time with Senessax than Bayle tbh. That f'er had AOE for days on end, even up to his hind legs the lightning will travel and hit you. However design that fight hates melee lol

Same honestly, Senessax just wasn't fun to fight at all. Bayle went down in much less time and was significantly more fun to fight. Next time I'm just gonna run past them.

i just jousted senessax to death, it is super easy if you get on torrent, just go in for 2 hits then sprint away, literally cannot ever hit you

But even then I was still getting my ass beat by them lightning waves I found the best strategy on foot using the dragon slaying katana, was to unlock, run between his limbs to his tail, lock-on and then use the weapon skill, wait and dodge it's incoming attack and then rinse and repeat it until it's dead.

The five Chinese elements are fire, water, earth, metal, and wood. No wind, no lightning. A dancing lion is very much not a dragon, much like how lion dances use different choreography and a different costume in relation to dragon dances. Of course, this is from the guy who wondered if Japan had dragons in their mythology while playing Yakuza Like a Dragon. He just doesn’t know this stuff, that’s all.

5:32:54 just to be clear, a win is a win is a win, play however you like, summons are fantastic tools and really fun to use the bosses were not designed for you to need to summon, though they're clearly balanced in case you *do* summon, I've beaten every main game boss and the first 3 obligatory progression dlc bosses, a handful of optional, overworld bosses and Bayle, by myself, all attacks can be dodged and reacted to. you don't need to say "i'm supposed to play this way", that's what's great about Elden Ring.

Great katana is worse than base katana pat. The bleed is only 10 higher and it attacks slower. Also, the weapon art is worse than unsheath. It's an awesome weapon though.

I do agree with eurogamer though, there's almost nothing in the DLC I'd use over something else in the base game. There's heal from afar I might slap on a low level coop build, but that's it. The base game's spells, weapons, and ashes are cooler and I find it easier to find good use for them in my playstyle.
