My grandma used to sing this to me at night, she got Alzheimer’s and didn’t remember me for 10 years, then on her deathbed grabbed my hand and whistles this song to me… crazy experience

When my husband was alive, I told him this was one of our songs and it always made me ugly cry. Now that its coming up on his 2nd anniversary of dying, I'm playing our song and remembering how much I loved him, not for just an hour, not for just a day, not for just a year, BUT ALWAYS!!!!!!!!!! And I'm ugly crying. :)

My parents played "Always" at their wedding, and my husband and I played it for our wedding too. I sang it for him throughout his hospital stay and as he took his last breath. He died 3 years ago this month and every time I hear it I cry - haven't been able to sing it through since. I feel you. We were forever and always.

Written by Irving Berlin for his wife, sung by the greatest vocal stylist of any genre. I had a live band at my wedding reception, but this recording is what we had for our first dance. Not for just an hour, not for just a day....

Beautiful song, but possibly not by Irving Berlin. He had some ghost writers. I know because we bought a house in suburban New York, when I was a boy (c 1961), and I found in the attic many sheets of music composed by the former house owner for Irving Berlin. Nothing wrong with this--the ghost writer had no famous name to get published, and Berlin needed songs as he had a hungry outlet for his music.

They want that swingin', upbeat, catchy Patsy - with the slgnature country sound , slide and pedal steel guitar backing her. This song 'Always' is considered "too feminine" , too scary and emotional of a subject for Real Men.. "Commitment" !! And soothing sounds behind her solemn singing , - an orchestra ??!! Oh no Siree Bob. Us boys aint havin' no sissy violins ! Get out them fiddles and saw up some real country sounds! They want to hear a jilted, teary helpless Worman crying - 'Crazy' and ' l Fall to Pieces" keeps them broads in their place !

"Always" was sung in the film, "Pride of the Yankees," 1942. Written by Berlin (probably) in 1926 for his second wife, after death of his first wife.

First time I heard the song but not by Patsy, the movie was pride of the Yankees. The Lou Gehrig story. I kept this song in my heart until I met my wife Linda and this was our wedding song and we would sing it to each other until the day she passed away.
@williammckane2466 Жыл бұрын
I found an answer using Google search: "The Pride of the Yankees." " Who sang Always in Lou Gehrig movie? This is featured throughout the 1942 Lou Gehrig biopic The Pride of the Yankees, starring Gary Cooper and Teresa Wright. During a nightclub scene, it's played by Ray Noble and His Orchestra and sung by Bettye Avery.
