I wonder how many people listen to this song without understanding that it's written from the viewpoint of a man who's reflecting on his marriage from beyond the grave and realizing that it's too late to change the kind of man he was.

I went to Patty's Portland Maine show last year -- and something was very wrong (either she was not feeling well or the stage feedback sound was faulty because her voice was grossly out of tune -- which I never expected! And it continued throughout her show. I love RAIN -- and wish I didn't hear it that night, it was so off-tune. I'm thinking of going to the Boston show -- because there must have been a reason her sound was so off! I definitely need a 're-do'! I listen to her CD's all the time...

No. They didn't. This song along with Truth N 2 was supposed to be included in a Patty's record around 2000-2001 but because of some problems with the label the album was delayed around 11 years. in the meantime around 2002-2004 some copies of that record were distributed and the Chicks (Previously called the Dixie Chicks) heard Patty and decided to grab some of the unreleased material and included in their Home album. obviously Patty approved it. after the hard time she was going through she took the chance to let her songs to be known even if it meant to be released by someone else first and then by her some day. People still believes Patty covered the Chicks when was kind of the opposite.

@@Ramx26x is correct. The album "Silver Bell" was recorded in 2000 but it wasn't released until 2013.
