That would be me...and to say it was amazing "experiencing" the "Fab Four" is an understatement and NO one or thing will EVER have such a world wide impact on music and culture like they did. It was almost as if they were the world's "deliverance" from the shocking, devastating and depressing effect of JFK's assassination just a few months before they exploded onto the world stage. To illustrate how popular they were, the radio stations would play each week's Top 40 Hits and at one point The Beatles had the top FIFTEEN songs on the charts. I remember one radio station that played nothing but Beatles songs 24/7. My high school girlfriend went to see them with a friend in Boston. Afterward, I asked her how they were/sounded. She answered, "I don't know, we couldn't hear them because we all just stood on our chairs and screamed out heads off". It's pretty safe to say, the world will never experience another group of musicians like them.

I think the thing that’s most amazing about Paul McCartney is that he has been pretty much the same since 1964.…when the majority of the world first became aware of him. He’s never really changed. He’s been the same Paul for 58 years in the public eye. Same way of talking, same sense of humor, never being very serious, etc. Here he is 80 now, and his energy and responses are pretty much the same as they were when he was 21. He’s really amazing in that way.

Paul McCartney have not been the same since 1964. Because the real Paul was replaced late 1966 "as an already set up affair". What we see today is old William imitating the mannerisms of young Paul. Different personality, different skullshape and different height.

I got to hang out with Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman when I was 13 years old. My uncle Peter Heine was director of advertising sales for Billboard Magazine at 9000 Sunset Los Angeles California. Peter had to go down the hall for 15 minutes and ask the three of us if we could keep each other entertained. So we all said sure. Paul and Linda where an elegant couple. Very easy to be around, like hanging out with old friends of the family. Together the three of us looked out the window at 9000 Sunset and admired the LA Skyline. Paul and Linda had just gotten the record deal for Live and Let Die. They were both very proud of their new band Wings. Paul was especially proud because it was his first real success since the Beatles. Thanks for the excellent company Paul. A special thanks for the wonderful music.

@@michaelschneider- in 1967 Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band came out. I was 8 years old. My older sister was 14. She was a big fan of The Beatles. So you listen to what your older sister listens to. I don't think I was a fan. I mean people were absolutely going gaga crazy over the Beatles. I remember wondering what the big fuss was? I was aware of their music. But I was more interested in the Kingston Trio, Herb Albert and the Tijuana Brass. And Al Hirt. For my 7th birthday I wanted a trumpet. Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band had horns. And philosophically that album was very much like a parent. I loved Steppenwolf. Totally shared the dream with Easy Rider. The Monkees were also out and some girls went gaga over them. I couldn't understand why?

@@michaelschneider- Live and Let Die the James Bond movie was 1973. So Paul must have been buying advertising for my Uncle Peter in late fall of 1972. Peter had a 1971 280sl and in 1972 the 350sl came out and that was a new body style. Live and Let Die was Wings first success.

Paul has handled fame about as good as anyone could. Answering the same questions over and over and over for all these years. When he has been out promoting other music or creative endeavors, it always turns to the Beatles/John, he doesn't seem to mind (I'd have told them all to go blank themselves after the first 20yrs!). I think he is just an awesome human being. ALways so gracious. A good man.

Initially he did. Until the 1980s he refused to play any Beatles songs in his live performances. He had a very hard time right after the Beatles split. It was all he knew and he’d been high school buddies with George and gotten close to John. Now they were done and he was lost. But once he admitted where he was at in life, and Linda was a huge help, he came to terms with his past and now embraces who he is.

@@joe6096 In fact, in 1976 with the tour Wings Over America, Paul gets dare to sing some songs like Yesterday, Blackbird, Lady Maddona and The Long and Winding Road (probably for the reasons you comment: Linda was an important person in the life of Paul who encouraged him several times). But definitely, after the death of John, Paul decides to include more songs from the group, mainly, those he wrote the lyrics. Even, after the Goerge's death, Paul decides to play Something too and many times he included it in the setlists concerts.

@@gabrielal1364 Yes. Paul's arrangement of Something is absolutely beautiful. He first debuted it in the Concert For George concert in 2002 one year after George passed, and has since played it like that at most if not all his shows. I've seen Paul 3 times since the Concert For George was filmed, the last time in 2016. That intro with the uke that George gave him and the "swing time" beat he uses for the first verse through the first chorus, then segues into the middle solo and finishes as George wrote it. Beautiful.

It wasn't that they didn't want to answer the phone. It was more that the caller was bound to be Paul about getting more work done. In those days, you couldn't tell who the caller would be. Ringo acknowledged in retrospect that Paul did right in pushing them to work.

dvdwhi7 I’m 49 and was never exposed To the Beatles ,I mean I knew who they were and the pop songs they played for the teen back than ,but fast forward and now when I hear a certain song that I thought was from An artist,the DJ usually say “ that was the Beatles song coverd by so and so” still I’m not a fan of them and maybe never will ,just like many others ,Pink Floyd ,ozzy,deep purple etc ..I’m a 80s guy ...Depeche Mode ,erasure,new Order ,the cure ,madness ,the clash ,and 2 of my top favs “ the police “ and of course “ bob Marley “ and reggae music to me is tops !!!! Comparisons at this level are absurd, they all had something different. Without Elvis there would be no Beatles because he opened the door for them all. Michael Jackson had a different sound, a different aura about him than the Beatles. The Bee Gees are phenomenal, that doesn't make them lesser than anyone, they are just different. This is like asking, which is the book that changed your life or the one that you like the most. There are none, they all bring something to your life and make it better, we hope. There is the belief that people who don't write songs are nothing. Tell that to Wagner who wrote sublime musical pages yet he couldn't sing nothing! Who is going to deliver the notes of those magnificent Tragic Operas? I'm sure Beethoven couldn't play the piano as well as Vladimir Horowitz, so what?

Sometimes, it's a little bit sad that the interviewers only ask him about The Beatles facts. It's really sad that too many people reduce the legacy of Paul McCartney just as a member of The Beatles but his solo career is so sensational too with a lot of stunning albums (not just Band on the Run or Flaming Pie...) where he really showed to the public all his musical skills. I hope too many people appreciate his solo career since 1970 because he has done wonderful things and great contributions to the music history.

I thought at one point in my life that I would never have the honor and joy of seeing Paul McCartney live. I ended up seeing him 5 separate times live in concert. I haven't seen him in a while but I am so thankful I got to see him live. He is my favorite performer of all time and my biggest inspiration. I am also thankful that I was able to see him when he was younger and his voice was still fantastic.

I got to see him "live" 6 times. But the best time was when I got to see him rehearsing in London. We were allowed to take into the theatre, a camera. This was before smart phones. Pre smartphones you were not allowed to take camera's into a concert. But because this was a rehearsal there was no restrictions on camera's. So in we went. I was at the back so no point in taking pictures. Then about half way through he said do you want to come down the front? I started walking down the isle of the theatre in an orderly fashion. Everybody else started leaping over the seats like race horses over the hurdles. Anyway, I got very close to the stage and took my photos. They came out great!! And are framed and on the wall in my front room. I can see them now "as I write this letter" lol!!

Lots of younger people get to see Paul McCartney doing interviews or concerts on the internet now because Paul is much more easily available now. What they dont realise was that The Beatles were so famous that in the late 60s and early 70s none of The Beatles gave many interviews. They were still burned out from the huge fame they had and also all the problems they faced on their last tour where it started to become physically dangerous. McCartney today is much more available.

Paul and Ringo still carry the banner and they do it so well. Wonderful men who are just as dynamic and charming now as they ever were. Who else in the history of pop music has aged as well as those two? The whole generation of musicians I grew up with in the 60s and 70s have aged better and their songs have continued to be relevant far longer than we've ever seen before. It was a golden age of creativity and growth, where what we now take for granted had yet to be invented. The Beatles, the Stones, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and on and on. I was so lucky to live during the rise of these great artists.

Can't help but agree. I wince at how they flatter him whenever I see these interviews. Of course it's well-intentioned, but if you know anything about Paul, you know he's humble to the bone. Setting up the interview with praises he's already been sung sets it off on a bad foot and can almost guarantee it won't be a personal exchange and will cycle through the same Let It Be explanation stories he's told a thousand times. If I were interviewing I'd much rather just treat him like an average Joe. Not only will you get a much better personal connection with him (and chemistry), but you'll also hear more unique stories if you play your cards right.

That's the power of media. We first knew those musicians via TV or radio, and that's what created the magic. I lived in a middle-sized city, and there were local bands, regular musicians, eveyone knew them, and then one of the bands got to the mainstream media with a hit, and they suddenly became a big thing in the city, even though they had made great music long time before that.

I have never met PM but know a few who have and every single one of them, without fail, has remarked how kind he is, and how he is aware that his presence could make or break someones day, and careful with that, while easy and offhanded at the same time. Like most people, I'm a huge music fan...and there are a lot of artists I would LOVE to meet in person.....but there are only a very few who would likely turn me into a stammering idiot....and Paul McCartney is DEFINITELY one of those. IF there is any such thing as a "Living Rock Legend"....I'd have to say he sits right at the top of that list.

It’s because of interviewers like this that he knows how to manage his fame. The best interviews he gives are the ones where the interviewer isn’t gaga over him. Bob Costa had a really good interview because he knew what questions to ask and didn’t make the interview about him.

Whoever the person was that interrupted the interviewer to say they had 5 minutes left when McCartney was sharing a personal conversation he had with John about insecurities and John being a legend should have been demoted. He’s Paul McCartney and he’s telling us about the much loved John Lennon who sadly is no longer with us to tell these things. They should have anticipated the length of time for the interview, cued Paul so he could anticipate what stories to share, etc. To interrupt at that moment when something rather significant was being related suggests very poorly planning on by the CBS team. He’s fricking Paul McCartney and all this material adds to the historical knowledge of the greatest Rock and Roll band and of the most significant musical partnership of our lifetime.

Indeed! To interrupt the interview like this was so bad! I think it isn't just about the poorly planning but also the journalist who repeat the same questions and Paul is so kind that he decides to answer her but probably, he must to be tired of the same questions about The Beatles. Really sad the interviewers don't take the time properly for investigate more about his discography and lifestyle and make smart and interesting questions :(

My older brother Ron, who is a singer-songwriter and cut a couple of albums in Los Angeles and got a little bit of airplay. He also worked at LAX Airport and he would always look at the VIP list from American Airlines. And there it was in the middle of the list, Paul and Linda McCartney and the flight was delayed for whatever reason. Ron always carried a little cassette of his songs to try to give to an important producer or writer and maybe get a break ? Anyway, he made it down to the plane, this was I believe the late seventies and security was nowhere near as tight as it is today and he had no trouble getting on the plane, besides he had his ID badge with him and everything. He introduced himself to Paul and Linda and he told him he was the greatest songwriter of the 20th century. Paul was very super friendly and gracious and I believe my brother even handed him one of his cassette tapes lol. I'm sure it ended up in the trash at Heathrow Airport. Anyway, it was a pretty cool moment in history for my brother. Although probably a total irritant to to paul.

I have been his fan since 1964. He looks so normal knowing his genius, but I saw on the studio on the wall a picture of Frank Sinatra, who is so fantastic. Also becuase I have a son who looks a lot like him. Paul, you and your music is so dear to me.
