Love the real life scenarios. I have a C400 coming and I'll probably sell 2 C70's for the C80 just for the triple ISO and sticky AF. I love the Canon image.

Great review. I bought a used C70 in Feb and went into it with both eyes open about it’s weaknesses as a super 35 camera. Coming from a C100 M2 obviously a big improvement in detail, autofocus and dynamic range. Overall very happy with the camera but I was disappointed to find out the reviews of the image being “soft” were true. I’m not now rushing out to upgrade as this camera serves my needs very well, but the C80 looks like it will fill a nice niche for better low light and detail at an acceptable price for us indie, run-and-gun shooters.

Thank you. The c70 is a little soft but nowadays with so many cameras that have a digitally over sharpened look that isn’t a bad thing. Both cameras are great but most of the time the successor of a camera improves on things that the previous camera didn’t do :)

@@pauleporterdp Agreed - my coworker shoots video with a Panasonic S52 (great camera) but it's almost TOO sharp. My biggest gripe about the C70 and C80 is lack of optional EVF - I find the camera useless outside without one. I've found a workaround solution.

great video! Coming from R5C I was tempted by C70 at times but I really want full frame and didn't like the softness of the sensor for what I shoot. The C80 fixes both of these for me and the new AF and triple-base ISO mean it's an instant buy for me.

Awesome video, Paule! Shooting primarily real estate, dynamic range is very important to me as most interiors will have dark areas along with nuclear light blowing through the windows in the same shot. The best I've used at capturing this (there are a lot of real estate videos on my channel BTW) is the RED KX and OG, and the Blackmagic 6K full frame. I have used and loved the C70 also, but the R3D and BRAW codecs I think are the big difference in being able to tune the highlight rolloff to a much softer presentation. For my application the C80/C400 look to behave a LOT like the C70, with the same inflexible RAW codec as far as highlight rolloff is concerned. Is this your experience with these cameras as well? Thanks for all your content about these cameras, bud! 🍻
@pauleporterdp2 ай бұрын
Thank you so much. I agree the r3d and the highlight roll-off is unmatched. The canon cameras are always great but also to me the Komodo is a touch better. :)

Thank you for the review. Besides the full frame sensor, I'm equally as interested in shooting and grading 12 bit Cinema Raw Light. To me that's a very important feature when grading. It's weird because the Canon R5 mk ii is advertised as recording 12 bit raw at 8K up to 59.94 fps.

Thanks, the R5 mark II is great. To me I feel like that the sensors in the cinema cameras are a little smoother and not as digital as in the mirrorless cameras.

I have two c70‘s and do videos like this. It is plenty enough and as long as you do not need super sharp images for commercial stuff keep your money and buy two aputure 1200d and a fog machine😂 the c80 isn‘t gonna give you more money i suppose - the lights might do…

@pauleporterdp2 ай бұрын
It depends on your needs. If you need low light then get the Sony. If you need frame rates and ProRes raw then the gh7

Which camera would you buy? The C400, the C80, or the Red Komodo X?
@pauleporterdp18 күн бұрын
Though question. It all comes down to what you’re shooting. The Canon cameras are more Suited for run and gun and the KX more for narrative work. I personally shoot a lot of commercials and corporate work. And since I’m often working with a crew I would go with have Komodo. If I would be always on my own or most of the time I would probably pick the C400
@jamescook593118 күн бұрын
@ To clarify, your preference is the Red Komodo X? Did you know that the Nikon z6iii is a full frame 6k camera for only 2500 dollars? Seems like Nikon is planning something that will hurt Canon sales.

Considering only the image yes, but as I’ve said there are so many factors to consider when buying a camera

Thank for the review. To be clear, im not saying that the c80 is bad camera, or even that it isnt "better" than the c70. However, human perception is not a chart, and it is misleading to use concepts as "sharp", "soft" or "detailed" when referring to an image. All images are interpretations of light and how much that interpretation is similar to what we refer to as reality depends on many more factors than the characterists of a sensor or even of lenses. Capitalism wants us to believe that there is always something missing, so we keep on buying. Are the images that 4 years ago were considered beautiful and accurate now soft and not detailed?
@gundisrambo9054Ай бұрын
if you put 4 K High Res from the r5 and 4 K from the C70 side by side, you will see an enormous difference. The r5 sensor shows much more details. Still, I like the image out of the C70 much more, especially with peoples faces, too much detail is nothing that I really want to see. And once those still images are brought to motion, our brains can ´t process that much information anyway and the perceived difference gets much less noticeable.

I don’t know much at all on cinema cameras. But, Why can the cameras like the r52 and the r5c do 8k60 but this one can’t? Thanks!
@pauleporterdp2 ай бұрын
It has a 6k sensor not an 8k sensor. And there are more important factors than resolution
@Matt-Holdren2 ай бұрын
@@pauleporterdp sorry. I worded that terribly. Why is there not an 8k sensor like those other two? Does the 6k get better low light and dynamic range?
@pauleporterdp2 ай бұрын
No worries. I think personally 6k is a good spot for filmmakers since it’s good to record in a higher resolution when you deliver in 4K. 8k is mostly good for photographers that need the high Megapixels but comes with massive file sizes. So personally I think canon made the right decision here to go with a 6k sensor.
