The Perfect Camp; Torrential Rain. Biting Wind. Nothing around for miles. Late September. Dusk all day long. And, after that substantial Trek to get there... A Grand Enamel Mug of Tea. Then Supper. All this rounded off with a Good Book and listening to the rain striking the tent. Bliss.

Yep. I’m surprised you made the mistake of buying the one person version. I’m a short 5’5” and immediately went for the two person, great inner size ‘and’ two porches which not only gives you great flexibility in cooking/storage etc but is also far better options for ventilation and and not much of a weight penalty. 👍 I went for this type of tent after living my Scarp two which I love the layout etc but can’t be doing with the silver colour, hence it’s goin on eBay with the extra poles etc and very little use. Current tents: Hilleberg Nammatj 2. ✅ Terra Nova SC 2. ✅ Hilleberg Akto. ✅ Fjallraven Abisko lite 1✅ MSR access 2 (great tent but inner first 😏used once, to go). Tarptent Scarp 2 (terrific tent but can’t be doin wit colour, to go) Keep up the good work buddy.. 👍

@@thomasomoore9252 I like you comment. Lots of great insight. I think you meant it for Paul. Not to worry, I am confidant that Paul will read every word. I agree with you. The two man is usually the way to go. I trained in Survival with the Army back in the early 1980's. Being abandoned on Brecon for two weeks, without so much as a tarpaulin, really tested one's Survival skills. Frankly, a one man tent can be a luxury at times. Very best wishes.

Fantastic share, thanks for taking the time. I need to thank you... My wife has always enjoyed camping but the thoughts of wildcamping scared her. I showed her the film with you and Jo. She agreed to do one 👏👏. We did Fleetwith Pike and got drenched enroute. The wind was howling and it rained and rained. The sunrise nailed it. We have just got back in from her second Wildcamp which was in a similar area you went with Jo. We parked in Buttermere, so proud of her . Thanks for the inspiration. All the best Sel. Hats off to you for going out in all weathers and not being just a fair weather camper. A few points though if I may. As picturesque as it might be for YT or IG, pitching your tent on top of the hill is just, well to be blunt, lunacy. Of course it is going to be windy. It's the most exposed piece of ground for miles and you've decided to pitch right in the middle of it. Get down off the top, in the lee of the hill and take advantage of the cover from the elements. As we used to say in the Army, any fool can be uncomfortable. Packing list - you really should have a change of clothes. By not doing so you put yourself at risk. You mention in the video that you put your waterproof trousers on having taken off your wet gear. Perfect time to put on your change of clothes. Not sure what your contingency would be if you ended up in the drink, with no spare change of clothes. Otherwise, can't fault your enthusiasm and energy in creating this content and putting yourself out there.

I personally really rate taking a little thermos flask with me, I finish off my cooking by pour it straight into the flask and normally prenheat the flash wirh hot water that ibuse to make a tea while I'm waiting for it to finish cooking. In the dales there's always water within a walk of most camping spots. This saves on weight as I pre make my own dried meals e.g rice, milk powder, dried parmesan, and dried mushrooms (buy cheap at chineese supermarkets), thyme, garlic and stock powder. You can even do it with noodles and crack and egg in there. Keeps the pan from burning as well this way as the rice won't stick.

Hay Box Cooking - there used to be cooking in the ground by boiling the water and placing the pan of food in a hole surrounded by hay which acts as an insulator, most people think that because it is boiling it's head off it is cooking faster when in fact water will stay at the same temperature 100 degrees C by losing heat through evaporation, so what I do (at home) is boil potatoes in a pan, put a lid on and turn the heat off then come back a few hours later to boil the water to finish off cooking and heat he food up. Try experimenting next time when you have more time to prepare your food.

I've used a Southern Cross 2 since Oct. 2017 and it's the perfect balance (or compromise) for a 3 or 4 season tent. 2.3kgs is acceptable when you get 'plenty' of room for 1, head height is good (I'm 6'3"). 2 entrances so you can dump your wet gear in one and cook in the other. Rucksack goes into the tent. Set up procedure is peg out the four corners, set up the red pole skeleton and attach the end clips, then set up the blue cross pole, attach all the other clips and peg out properly. 3 x clothes pegs are packed with every tent I own, they are essential multipurpose items and sort out flappy doors, amongst other things. 2 downsides to the SC2. 1. Supplied pegs are crap, but you should always have a variety of different pegs with you. 2 Price. I bought this as an 'absolute' bargain from Outside in Hathersage for £339GBP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, but today prices are eye watering.

Has to be said i usually skip through the promos (guilty as charged) but great thinking combining that with the continued filming of your food, kept me from skipping 👍

Like that you don’t share where you are even though it’s not Ard to work out if you know the Lakes 😉 Doing the Wainrights or any other hill list does take you to places you might not otherwise visit. My 3 year old Border Terrier has 11 to do and it’s been great revisiting places with him. Another good video 😂

Bloody hell looks tight in the tent. Not sure I'd handle that very well. Always fancied a Southern cross too.. maybe not! Cheers for the video bud! Atb

Great video Paul. Good to see you out in darker, chillier conditions too. Quick question - do you still own a Hilleberg Akto? I seem to remember you used it in a couple of old videos. I love that tent. It seems to tick all of the positives that this one has with a little more room in the sleeping compartment too.

Hot one of the pink sponj things you recommended and I'm on exercise in a couple of weeks with my unit. Gonna get some jip for the colour but what a great bit of kit that thing is. Ended up getting it at Aldi for about £1.50

Nice night out chief. Good trick with the prawns. Was that the AOKA tripod I spotted there? Cracking bit of vlogging kit. The SC is definitely compact, but looks solid for the bad weather. 🏕
