Pauper edh seems very interesting. Without all the big staples you see end regular edh, people are able to get more creative. I've thought to make pauper decks and just play them against normal edh decks

I have been doing this as of late and it's been quite fun.

I've done that for a long time now I have like three different popper decks currently and I've given two away as gifts that I used frequently to play against regular commander decks You're going to run into three problems and if you can solve all of those three then you're good a )recurrent car draw outside of your commander which can sometimes have car draw stapled on it cuz it's an uncommon.Commons are very very bad it consistently repeatedly drawing cards Burst drawing their fine with though. b) closing out the game this is actually one of the hardest things that you can do just because your creatures are on average much smaller and your access to wide buffs if you're going for a combat kill is much worse. c) board wipes Pauper has most of the good removal and a solid batch of counterspells but garbage access to board wipes red and black have access to damage-based board wipes and green has access to enchantment board wipes and that's it If you can resolve each of those problems in order or trick someone else at the table to do the work for you You can actually win just fine

Big fan of 30 life commander formats. Throws aggro a bone, penalizes some of the more egregious life paying cards. If you haven't tried it out, give it a shot some time.

Gretchen is a great pick in Pauper Commander - just pray for another combo deck at the table to take the heat and smoke screen you because combo is vulnerable to combat damage in this format.

Is anyone else confused about why Dallas mulliganned his island and not one of the two forests? He didn't have any GG spells in his hand, and he had multiple spells with a blue cost.

I was trying to influence Chev into attacking Ryan - who was piloting the "my bad match up" deck. I can win against Gut with Tor Wauki. I cannot win against a fully suited up Ryan.

Ryan here, Those tokens we're going to kill Clay if he didn't attempt a sweeper and at the time, Chev was definitely in the driver's seat. Clay was in a tough spot against two aggressive decks that had good starts and clear targets. Clay also didn't draw the elements of his deck that completely hose Gut (and Rilsa's board, though not so much Rilsa herself), which there are many. Tor Wauki is a fantastic deck, Clay just didn't draw enough of the stuff that mattered in that situation - happens.

I noticed what may be an error in either narration or game state on Turn 5. Rila was attacking Ryan, but was sacrificed to make a skeleton token attacking Dallas. Since combat damage was not dealt to Ryan as Rila was sacrificed before damage was dealt, shouldn't Ryan still keep Monarch and Initiative?

Just finished watching, and it seems to be a game state error. Chev should not have gotten monarch and initiative, and it definitely warped the game's dynamics because Chev had access to slightly more resources like the extra basic plains and additional card draw to make him a bigger threat.

Pauper EDH only allows commons in the main deck. Peasant EDH allows a limited number of uncommons in the main deck. Artisan EDH allows any number of uncommons in the main deck. Pauper EDH is just the biggest of the three, by far, and the only one with a solidified rule set (although there are some people working on centralizing artisan EDH).

More like the meta has shifted steadily because of new cards. She and the weavers were on top for a while, but quite not as much anymore. For example, Tatyova's flicker loops generally went down in effectiveness when Honored Heirloom started seeing heavy use for widespread grave hate in the format. In addition, initiative has made it much easier for aggressive decks to keep up the pressure against combo/control decks.

It's a great commander, but there's no best in Pauper Commander - if a commander is too good, its quite self-regulating to just gang up and hate them out. Tatyova suffers from being too good.... but also from being 5 mana.

All experienced Pauper Commander pilots, Chev no exception. Chev did fine, and almost killed me - had I (Ryan) been unable to kill him during that combat, I'd have had to swing much more conservatively and turtle up. He just failed to note that on upkeep I'd be entering the Forge, so he didn't think he was dead. He killed Clay because Clay had the best tools in the pod to completely decimate his board state (peek at Tor Wauki, there's like 8-10 sweepers, and Tor's trigger alone can put Gut in a deep dark hole for the rest of the game. Gut was the only source of major pressure on Gretchen, which is of course the Lord's work. Aggro justifies itself by applying early pressure to combo decks - kill their board or their engine and there's less pressure on the combo decks. This is how they get leeway to do what they do.

Dallas's opening hand and 1 mulligan makes absolutely zero sense to me. Can someone explain please why he did that? He has 1 green card, 2 blue cards, and an artifact with an activated ability that requires 2 blue mana. He keeps 2 forests, and mulligans his 1 island. What? Why the heck did he do that? I noticed he top decked a 2 color tapped land, and an island, as his first two draws. Are you guys cheating and stacking your draws for a good game? That is honestly the only reason I can think of for Dallas deciding to keep a hand like that.
