Could you pls explain more on the 70(11.34)^0.75? Where did you get the 70 and 0.75 from?
@PawsofPrey4 жыл бұрын
That is the Resting Energy Requirement (RER) for dogs, which is the baseline energy needed for things like digestion, motor control, etc. The general formula for this is your dog's weight in kilograms raised to the power of 3/4, multiplied by 70 --- so 70(Dog's BW)^0.75

Hello, could you please enlighten me on how i might calculate the daily caloric intake for a kitten? I have the NRC book and am balancing with a rather complicated nutritional profile spreadsheet. Given he's never been fed canned food i have no idea of his caloric intake. I have sort of followed your guidelines and came up with the following: RER 70 (3.3)^0.67 (i got the ^0.67 for cats from the NRC book) =155.77 x 3 (activity level, I used puppy from your video) which gives me 467 calories per day. He is 5 months, 3.3 kg and high activity.. but he only eats about 3/4 of that. Then again, maybe it doesn't matter so much, he can just each as much as he wants as a kitten, and as long as his means are balanced that is what counts. Am I on the right track? Thanks in advance!

I have 2 Siberian huskies, 60lbs and 75lbs, both of which I'd say are pretty average activity wise, sometimes slightly above, and by their weight they should be eating around 1400 and 1800 calories; However, they only maintain a healthy weight on 600-1000 calories, so breed definitely matters as in my example huskies only need about half as much as another dog their size, as they're built to moderate their calorie burn, although I do feel like I'm starving them sometimes, I'm really not.

I'm stuck on this too. Going through the same thing. What is it? Pre-made frozen raw companies are not using the skin or healthy fats in their food? I was considering adding coconut oil and somehow sourcing skin or animal fats. I don't know. I emailed the company I am using and they just reinforced the recommended percentage based on weight which is just about the RER requirement for my dog, but what about the MER caloric requirements? She is 9 years old and I just switched her to raw and worried that she trimmed down too much and too quickly, but can't tell if I am not feeding enough calories or it's just the switch to raw.

As far as how many times a day you feed, thats up to you! You would either feed the whole meal once or split the meal into 2 feedings. You do need to get your dog's weight though to determine how much to actually give him. Any vet hospital can quickly weight your dog for free.
