The Fleshtones still rock for me. I saw them live at The Stone in San Francisco many times in the 80's, and danced like crazy to their raw and intense music. Now I'm in my sixties and I still rock out to them.

I only saw them live once in NYC in the mid-80s. I was hanging with some friends of theirs who took me to this small sort of cabaret venue. At first I was, like, oh, crap, I'm gonna have to feign enthusiasm because I'm with friends of theirs, but they ROCKED! Met them backstage and really nice, cool guys. Cheers to them wherever they may be now!

The Fleshtones are my fave bar band of all times! I saw them countless times up and down the east coast, and hung out with the guys at several of their gigs. They used to play great double bills at the old 9:30 Club in D.C. with the Beatnik Flies. I was at a bunch of those and brought fat sacks to the green room to smoke. How much fun was it to hold up your "potatoes" during "Hide and Seek," with Pete Zaremba going along the edge of the stage, right along the front row counting off everyone's "potatoes"? I got off a good line once hanging with the guys at the bar of a joint in Richmond called the Pyramid before a show, I think on a Thursday or Friday night. This was in late April, 1987 and I told Zaremba I wanted to see their next performance and asked where it was. He kinda laughed and said, "Aw, you probably won't make it, it's kinda far from here." Me: "Really? So where's it going to be?" Zaremba, "It'll be a place called Le Zenith. In Paris. We'll be playing in Paris next, like, 3 nights from now." Me: "I'm going to Paris, too! I'll be arriving Monday morning." Zaremba: "No." Me: "Yes. Where did you say it was going to be?" Zaremba: "No way." Me: "I'm not kidding. I'm catching a flight arriving Monday morning. So where are you playing again?" Zaremba, : "Le Zenith. It's a concert hall." Me: "I'll be there." It was true. I caught a Pan Am flight from Dulles to Paris 2 or 3 nights later; but didn't get to see the show because of some trouble over there that's a whole 'nother story. The Pyramid concert was spectacular blitzodelic rock and roll. One thing I recall from the show is the whole band left the stage, one by one, including the drummer with a snare drum hung around his neck, doing one of those fabulous medleys. They wound their way arond the club and eventually all ended up on top of the bar in the back, wailing like banshees swimming in napalm, and without missing a beat, eventually made it back on the stage. This is what it's about, fellow rockers. Forget those dinosaur bands way, way off in the distance at a football stadium or hockey arena where you pay way too much to go watch TV. The proper rock venue is a club where you can dance, get next to the stage and drink: all at an affordable price. I doubt I ever paid more than $25 to see the Fleshtones. Kids today need to see bands just like them to find out what rock is really all about. Pete, Keith, all the others who played in this band - thank you. Take pride in knowing you done good. The Fleshtones were not just spectacular onstage, on that mission to liberate the world with rock and roll. I found them all to be very friendly, approachable guys who were very good company. They shoulda made it big. I used to have a live album of theirs called "Speed Connection," recorded in Paris that was one of my top 5 fave records of all times. From beginning to end it is super strong and made to be played real loud. I don't know what happened to it, but it would be great to find a copy on CD. If you ever see it, buy it, regardless of price.

I guess by what I see below I consider myself pretty fortunate. Spent quite a bit of time with them at their rehearsal studio in NYC. Thought their version of 1000 LB Bee was incredible. Saw them live numerous times and went to Peter Zaremba's XMAS party in 1982 - He asked me to bring a video of the the "Brainiac" - 50s scifi. Bill the drummer great guy, Gordon played a killer sax, Keith and his maniacle tremelo Marek's never ending bass. Recall Peter's fave 60's 45 by the Kissing Cousins
