Yeah the music changes depending on the situation. The music has different stages. Stealth, control, buildup, assault.

"The ending made it seem like it was leading into something else" Payday songs are broken up into several sections. After you go loud the music enters the control phase , then anticipation, then assault. After the police assault ends the music enters back into the control phase during which time you can reload/heal, exchange hostages to get your dudes back, and prep defenses for the next assault. After a bit the police presence will start building back up outside which kicks off the anticipation phase which slowly builds back into the assault. This repeats until the heist is complete.

This actually has a companion piece called Ode All'Avidità (Ode to Greed in Italian), which is the original piece made for the trailer of this heist. The lyrics of Ode All'Avidità are between a man and a woman, with the man talking about how wealth has made the rich happy and he strives to have it too, while the woman pleads for him to stop his all consuming greed. It ends with the finale where the man anguishes over how he is dying and he cannot take his riches with him. Ode to Greed is a remix of Ode All'Avidità, and there's a slight chance for the Assault phase in-game to have the lyrics over it. It's a very fitting piece when you realize this bank that you're robbing has a history of crews trying and dying before you, and you're risking flying too close to the sun in robbing it. Your greed might be your end, in this sense, so having those lyrics of a man dying and lamenting the loss of his treasure adds a lot thematically, I feel.

It depends how long the assault phase lasts. If you get very long assault phases you will get the singing every time.

Payday 2 I really love it because its immersion. The part of the singers in Ode to greed usually occurs when reaching the most critical part of the heist: when enter the bank's vault and the police sends a massive assault over the gang, and it's time to take the money, call the escape phase and go.

I'm so glad that you seemed to like this one, was the best quality video that I could actually find for the song itself and having all of the parts! When you mentioned about the lyrics enhancing other sections, you're never guaranteed to get the lyrics to actually play. I've never actually heard them in game. They're a random chance that can add on during an assault, or a loop, I believe. So it helps with some variety!

What a surprise to see this. Even among Payday 2 music, Ode to Greed is one of the most unique one due to its usage of vocals. I think it perfectly fits Big Bank's grandiose appearance and the introduction of the advanced planning mechanic for this heist. As a side recommendation, watch the Payday 2 Big Bank trailer (the map that this soundtrack is made for). An extended version of this track is used as centerpiece for that trailer.

Others have already touched on this, but this song (and a majority of Payday's OST) are composed by Simon Viklund, who can get very experimental sometimes with genres in the game (from country music to doo-wop). In this case, the song is for a heist that takes place in a classical-looking bank, so he wanted it to be reminiscent of opera, which he was totally unfamiliar with composing. So he just kinda winged an opera track (Ode All'Avidità) and got some opera singers to sing it. Then remade it into what you heard in his more usual style, while still keeping the vocals playing here and there as you play. If you want more suggestions from this soundtrack: Razormind is considered the "main theme", Break the Rules(emulating Push it to the Limit from Scarface), Trouble Always Inbound (inspired by Stuck in the MIddle with you, from Reservoir Dogs), Evil Eye (my favorite), Dead Man's Hand, Backstab. Special mention to the guest tracks by Le Castle Vania: Confirmed Thrills, Fully Loaded Epic Win, Infinite Ammo, and Operation Blacklight, all a banger in their own way.

There's so many payday 2 song I love listening to, it's all great stuff that goes in behind your gameplay. As everyone says, the music is dynamic and shifts as you move between those phases in your heist. I believe the vocals for this song were there to make it feel more like a classical piece, kinda operatic. The name obviously being a play on Ode to Joy.

This is an interesting version that spends more time showing all the phases, the one that I have from the game's OST is much more like an actual song track so the flow sounds great Yeah you noticed the quality of the sound of the fuzz! The dynamics/production of the Payday 2 soundtrack is immaculate and I love to use it to test my headphones/amps because of the variety - drums/bass, orchestral, electronic, vocals, horns, strings, synths, really cool.

So i have an odd request but there is a game called Madworld with a rap soundtrack that is incredibly unique. Im not sure if Rap is in your wheelhouse but please check the song Look Pimpin/So cold, its a song for the games final fight that is spoken from the perspective of the games final boss The Black Baron.

@@ShitOwl No, when an assault starts, the game chooses between the vocal and instrumental versions. The same happens with Break The Rules

the composer is simon viklund he made a majority of the music in the game he left with another developher a few years ago to work on another game however but no one can really replace him however the new head of music for payday is gustavo coutinho he's also made some serious bangers
