Not sure if you'll see this but I feel it's worth mentioning the formula for (most) Payday 2 osts. Since the game generally plays in both Stealth and Loud. There are different phases to the song in order; Stealth Intro, Stealth, Control Intro, Control, Anticipation, Assault Intro, Assault and repeat back to control. It's amazing how every song feels so different despite following the same mostly rigid formula.

With the frankly ridiculous amount of DLC packs this game's gotten over its 8-year-long lifetime, Payday 2 has a metric shit-ton of material to pick from in terms of music, and just about every single one is quality. Personal standouts include "Shadows and Trickery," "Shoutout," "Searchlights," "Pimped-Out Getaway," and of course, "Break the Rules." It's worth noting that every track designed to be played during a level, or "heist" (with a few exceptions), is divided into four distinct sections. Typically, the first is the "Stealth" phase, where you're walking around undetected, dodging guards and cameras. As you'd expect, this part is calm and relaxed, to emphasize the fact that you're not getting shot at yet. Once your cover gets blown and someone calls the police, the track transitions into the "Control" phase, as you wipe out the guards, tie up the civilians, and shoot up the first-responders when they arrive at the scene. This part is still calm, but it trades the relaxation for a more energetic feel. The "Anticipation" phase is the shortest, lasting only about 30-40 seconds, as it's basically the game telling you that you have around half a minute to prepare and psych yourself up before the police send an assault wave, where the enemy spawn rate spikes up. Per the name, this part is 100% buildup. Once the wave arrives, the track enters the "Assault" phase, which is the part everyone remembers. Mostly because it's the part you hear the longest, as it plays for as long as a given assault wave lasts, and they can go on for a while, especially on higher difficulties. This is when the track just goes ham. When the assault wave ends, the music loops back to the "Control" phase, and steps 2 through 4 repeat until you either finish or fail the heist. I have to say, the process works quite well.

Actually, Simon wasn't the singer. It was Philip Bardowell, a musician who primarily does Christian music, but have also worked with The Beach Boys and Ace Frehley from KISS. After listening to this song, there's no denying that Phil has range.

A Thing on the structure I love it's based on gameplay and the song alone can tell in each phase you are: The first part, the most calm is the stealth one, you're still undiscovered and the song is here but in the background From 4:11 it's the control Phase, you're spotted, the cops are called and on the way, the first bullets start to fly in both ways At 5.07 the Control is done and Anticipation phase start, the enemy become more organized, tougher, more accurate and with heavier weapons because it's no more proximity cops but SWAT who took the job At 5:40 The Assault in building it's basically the buildup of SWAT forces to start a full scale Assault When the Lyrics kicks in the Assault start until they fade away to tell the SWAT is retreating and the song (and phase) loop back to Anticipation

Basically Payday 2 has done several crossover DLCs. The developers said Scarface the movie is canon to their world, but not the video game sequel so the Tony Montana added with this DLC (no longer available) isn't the real Tony, but a copycat killer. The game's world is weird with all the crossovers. Tony Montana existed and died Hotline Miami exists in it and has a Copycat Killer inspired by the game Bodhi from Point Break is here 2 of Jimmy's Clones from Hardcore Henry John Wick is here The Weird Goats from Goat Simulator h3h3oriductions gets in on the crime spree There's a few more but you get the idea

Another couple songs from payday, which I'd love to hear you listen to, is Razormind and Time Window. Simon Viklund's build-ups are about as kick-ass as Mick Gordon's. The guitars and bass in his songs are always highlights. He uses synth and harsh sounds, like alarms, but they all still manage to form an AMAZING song. Also similar to Mick Gordon in a way.
