Dude I don't care how old this is it's still great! I was five years old when I first played this game and then only a few times at a friend's house. Been looking for this for the longest time as I had completely forgotten the name of this title. I was googling stupid sentences going off of details I vaguely remembered and finally found it by chance on a forum discussing 90's pc games. That black buffalo looking thing has been on my mind for the longest time. I still shudder at the thought of it

Woooow, the way you finished this game was absolutelly awesome! You did it at amazing speed, not loosing 1 life and showing all interesting moments, like "the friend" escaping after you broke the chandelier. I play it reasonably well, but you are a master of AW. Congratulations!

I played Heart of Darkness over and over as a kid. That feeling of a vibrant, mysterious distant world, so eerie in its design yet captivating in its form, really pressed my buttons. I had no idea that HoD was based partly (if not in essence, in plot) off this title. Looks good.

Wasn't impossible by any means. I beat it on DOS using a keyboard back in 1992 or so.

according to a comment on a 20th anniversary video, the original didnt have music, that was added to the Genesis/Mega Drive version and some versions after that. 20th anniversary supposedly has an option for original sounds, updated sounds, and original sound + CD music I myself can verify that the version I played didn't have alot of music.

I know, I played the SNES and 3D0 versions and even though this is a remake of the original the lack of music is a huge letdown.

Games like these were so unforgiving. If you didn't know what to do or where to go you actually had to get help either from magazines or friends who played them.. No internet back then. Games almost play themselves now with they amount of info they give you. Very few games make you think anymore or learn from trail and error.

The ending was left ambiguous by Eric Chahi (the creator) intentionally, so you have to draw your own conclusion. I always figured the guy was dying at the end, and the alien took him away on the dragon so he could have some dignity in death.

Yeah I had this game on the Genesis and my buddies and I played this for months straight one summer . .. we finally finished it, but it took us so long because we had no guide . . it was all trial and error and figuring things out for ourselves. It was really fun.

I can't hear the monster in stage1 breathe or its footsteps as it runs. This detail is missing in this remake.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the graphics. They're just the original visuals in HD resolution. The art direction and design is more important than the technical standard of the modern era.

I loved the SNES version of this as a kid. Heck, I still do. There is one thing that I never did get, though. How DOES shooting that chandelier chain at 11:49 help Buddy get out of the crawlspace?

Heh... pretty good edition. At least they didnt go all Monkey Island on us and change the artwork (MI doesn't look bad though). The art style for this game was always perfect for it.

I only realized recently that the version on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) isn't the original version. I was honestly amazed! Mainly because it was the only version I ever played, when I was about 6 or something... Nevertheless, the Mega Drive version has excellent music!

Ah, yes that bit stumped me too. Notice the reflection of the guy on the bottom of the light. This is the guard walking back and forth. You have to wait until the guard stops in the middle until you can shoot. He stops for just few seconds so be quick!

I agree with Wykletypl. Perhaps they should unlock an option after you finish the first run to play with more modern graphics. Altho I'd be quite fine with the normal quality if they made a sequel - one that didn't suck and continued the storyline for several chapters, I mean.
