That's the area I used to spend ten days at a time on horseback. The mosquitos are bad this time of year. It's fun living vicariously through your posts. Living the dream!!

Thanks for the footage from above Horseshoe Meadows/Lone Pine. I’m SOBO-ing from Trail Pass to Highway 58 in a couple days, and it’s reassuring to know that I can leave my ice axe at home. Now I can focus on rattlesnakes and dehydration instead. 😜

On insect repellent, might I suggest using Permethrin on your cloths every few towns. The 100% deet stuff works and I generally bring some of that too, but it is awful stuff. I found that treating cloths with Permethrin made a HUGE difference. I am not sure how long it would last on trail, it says it last 6 weeks or 6 washes, but wear the cloths and hiking every day... maybe a week?

Nice commentary & views. Thank you! Sometimes I can hitch a ride quickly by kneeling down roadside and praying. It's very effective in CT and I'm guessing the bible-belts out East. Not sure about PCT towns, but it can't hurt to try. - LightWalker
