Hey, thanks for the video. I've noticed that on your engine the oil filter cap is aliminium made, is this an aftermarket one that you bought, or it is stock in Cupras?, because in my Leon 1.8T, this oil filter cap is black plastick... I made 98,000km already in my Leon, and i have issues now with oil, i think that it is time for my Leon to replace that PCV valve to new one also

Hi @JentusPro! The oil filter cap is from Bartek motorsport. I don't really like the idea of the plastic-ish one (I think it is PPS, not sure). I did also replace it because of an increased heat transfer of aluminum. With this mod and including the oil pan (check my video about the update: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppa9Y4JuhKefrZI ), can help to keep oil temperature levels at a more reasonable range depending on situation. Now, having issues with oil (I believe consumption) is not only PCV-related, although this can be definitely a contributor. It could be that oil is squeezed through the piston rings in your engine, leak through your oil pan gasket, camshaft case, ancillary bracket, oil or DSG radiator, etc. I would check if there is any component leaking before replacing anything, then taking a look inside the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole (to check if pistons are "wet"), and finally replace all gaskets, seals, PCV, and so on. Finalize with an oil and filter change and start measuring the oil consumption. I would also take a look about how the PCV valve works: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIrHd2CphLGYaas from Data Driven MQB (nice one!)

Did the new PCV valve make a difference?
@javitobosch
@javitobosch 7 ай бұрын
Hi! Honestly, I replaced it because of preventive maintenance. Did I feel any difference in response? No. Did I see any difference when cleaning the intake manifold and runners? Yes. Less carbon buildup. But, I must say this depends on the driver too =). I hope my answer helps you

Hello - Did you notice consumption of more oil and some idling issues before you upgraded this part?
@javitobosch
@javitobosch 8 ай бұрын
Hey! Apologies for the late reply. I did not notice any of what you mentioned. I did this job as part of preventive maintenance, since the PCV valve is full of diaphragms that are prone to fail due to wear or clogging.

I have 2020 model, 27k on the clock. I believe it is identical to yours and today I got EML 🙂 with a code P2279 intake air system leak. Do you reckon it could be the pcv that needs replacement? It does not idle rough and cannot hear any air leak noise

Hi bsrcupra290! Thanks for contacting me. Well, yes, it could be the case that the PCV valve is cracked and air is leaking in. Any of the O-rings in the PCV valve assembly. However, that is not the only part of the engine intake. The leak could be anywhere from the intake box to the intake manifold. Sometimes too much boost could crack plastic parts (boost pipes, PCV, manifold, you name it). Is your car tuned? I also think that you could have a dirty pressure sensor. If I were you I would try to take it easy and look for leaks on each of the modules, starting on the air box and ending in the intake manifold. It takes time and effort, though. The advantage is that you may end up spending way less bananas that just deciding for changing components because "maybe" that is the cause (my honest opinion). let me know if I can help you further! Good luck!

@@javitobosch thanks for your detailed answer. Car is stock. I think I figured it out - I might have not put the dip stick in correctly when I was checking the oil in the morning before the EML came on. I double checked the dipstick after the EML came on, oil cap and also the petrol tank cap, I cleaned the code and took it for a drive. EML did not come on since then and it has been over a week now. Will keep an eye on it anyway and now I have a good idea if I see it again where to look. After re-watching your video, I was wondering what is the recommended interval for PVC valves for our Cupra? BTW keep up with the videos - I enjoy watching it and it can help tremendously!

@@BiM25092006 Thanks a lot for your inspiring words! I will do my best to continue posting on a regular basis (about our Cupras XD). Good catch with the oil dipstick! To me such a code with so low mileage is already strange. Funny fact, my dad called me the other day because his VAG 1.2 TSI engine is throwing the famous P0172, but it is a 10-year-old car XD. It definitely looks like a vacuum leak but I forgot to check the oil dipstick (I am taking notes here too)! Regarding our Cupras PCV, I think the plastic enclosure can last quite long and I would bet ~60000km before it becomes brittle, but it also depends if you drive in a cold/warm weather and if it is city/countryside. However, the issue is the o-rings (especially the one that is in direct contact with the engine block) and the diaphragm (below the round cap in the PCV valve). I would certainly replace these two in my next maintenance ( and every ~30000km) if I manage to buy them separately. This is my honest opinion, but I could be wrong =). I am glad to see that you have the EML under control now. Have a nice week!

Hi! I believe that is a diaphragm and it is meant to be pulled from the inside of the component to the outside. You can check this video about how the PCV valve works: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIrHd2CphLGYaas from Data Driven MQB (nice one!). I hope this helps!

Hey, i have 2018 GTI should i be worried about carbon build up because car doesnt have MPi?
@javitobosch
@javitobosch 8 ай бұрын
Hi! General answer for all direct-injection engines: YES! I have been doing injector cleaning on my engine (from 2019) every 10,000km and lastly after 20,000km using chemicals instead of walnut blasting, as the amount of carbon in the intake runners "is not that much" so it makes it easier to remove (video soon!). On the other side, my dad has a similar engine and has not done any cleaning in 100,000km. I must say the car does not pull as before. Also, it is not about intake runners and injector rebuilding only. It is also about adjacent components like the intake manifold, PCV valve, air ducts, valves, etc. All of these components need preventive maintenance yes or yes (from my point of view)

@@bm_wuratli6883 Thanks for reaching out! I think here in NL walnut blasting costs depends on mechanic and other jobs needed (e.g., injector cleaning, injector rebuild, etc.) I think it starts around EUR300 and is up to EUR1000 but I am not very sure. Thanks for your recommendation! I thin the cam follower is a completely different version if compared to the predecessor engine. I agree with you that still needs maintenance, but is not such a critical part as before. Thanks a lot for your support!

Hey! Thanks a lot for the remark. However, what I can read in the workshop manual is 30Nm for DNUC engines (and many others). You may find this information in Chapter 28 - Ignition System, page 579 (link to Workshop Manual in the video description). Hope this helps!

What was a old part number vs new one?

@javitobosch 19 күн бұрын
Hi @albercik! After a year of reading your message. It has been quite a hassle to get you this information because I knew I had the old PCV laying somewhere and the (not so) new one in the car (obviously). Both PCVs part numbers are the same 06K103495BL. Now, if you are looking for an improvement, I would suggest to get some information about the MK8 Golf R PCV. You can find quite some information in kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIrHd2CphLGYaas. he is the only person from what I could see that wondered how a PCV valve works, instead of installing a PCV baffle/bypass plate and let the car smoke oil. Maybe his channel can inform you further. Apologies for the inconvenience android luck!

@@javitobosch Hi! I've already been change PCV. In 01/07/2018' VW change part number from 06K103495 AS => 06K103495 BL as far as I know is the newest. My car is 12.2017 and I've had old PCV. When I compare old vs new valve I notice difference construction. In case of PCV valve only oem parts should be used! Greetings!

What was wrong with the pcv valve?
@javitobosch
@javitobosch 6 ай бұрын
Hi! Absolutely nothing. Preventive maintenance it is =). I know it is recommended to replace this part every 50000km but I believe that the dirtier it gets, the more oil vapors that will be entering the intake manifold and the more carbon build up will happen at the intake runners. Replacing this valve more frequently does not solve the problem, but will delay it. I chose to do this every ±20000km.
